Hi there,
just asking this in the hope of some help, but when i play ME2 (or any relatively graphics heavy game) i can't get my fps above 15-25.
i run on:
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5800 @2.00GHz (2.00GHz)
4 GB RAM
Win7 64bit Home premium
nVidia GeForce 9600M GS 512MB
native resolution 1920x1080
laptop
graphics card goes up to 50-60 degrees celsius after about 30mins of playing and stays there.
if i play at native resolution i get 15fps or so, drop the game sdown to 1280x720 and it goes up to low/mid 20s, but it is still noticeably less smooth than playing on a console.

Just wondering what it is thats causing the low fps, as it is ruining my gaming experience. thanks for reading, and for any suggestions, and if any additional info is needed ask and you shall receive.

Considering the GeForce 9300 is below minimum system requirements, maybe 20-30 FPS is all your computer is going to give you for this game. I'm not sure how the 9600M GS compares to the 9300, but since the numbers are so close, I imagine the card just won't do much for you.

Try turning down the graphical settings as the 9600GS Mobile doesnt have the capabilities to run all the eye candy at 1080p.

A 9600M only has 64 Stream Processors which extremely limits the cards over all capabilities >.<. Have you tried playing ME2 on a desktop ? Also to note the 9600M has a max bandwidth of just over 25Gig/s which is modest to say the least but as I said before its stream processors are really limiting it, ME2's best playing on GFX cards like the 9800s an above anything lower an your just run into FPS issue's. By the way are you using AA atm all if so try turning that off completely to get ALOT more FPS. :P hope this helps.

If your temps are too high, get yourself a notebook cooler. Like the Antec Notebook Cooler 200 200MM 115.7CFM 27.1DBA Powered by USB Connector

Turn off some settings like Film Grain, Motion Blur, Anisotropic Filtering. Also you can turn off Dynamic Shadows too.

There's no way you'll be playing that game on your native resolution with those specs.

I've got C2D T7700 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Win7 x64, nVidia Quadro FX3600M (a class higher than 9600M GS) and I get around 25-40 fps at 1280x720 with full settings, which is the expected performance difference, when compared between these two cards, given the benchmark results at http://www.notebookc...-GS.9450.0.html and http://www.notebookc...00M.8834.0.html respectively.

You should turn down the settings.

For the record, GPU core slowdown is at 100 degrees Celsius.

thanks for input guys. yeah, i run the game at 1280x720 (i think) with all the graphics options turned off. AA is at x2 atm, i'll turn that off completely and see if that boosts my fps. like this my fps is about 30 when out of combat, 15-20 while in combat. if i run fraps it goes lolwtfnoobz and drops down to about 3. so you'd recommend me getting a new gpu? any specific recomendations? also, someone said that my cpu isnt that amazing, is it worth it/possible to upgrade that?
resolution i'm running at is actually 1360x768

Seeing that your on a laptop your upgrading options are extremely limited. :( First thing to ask is what brand is your laptop I.E Dell, HP etc etc also the model number this way I can look it up an see just how much you can upgrade if you even can. ^^

The 8930 is all I need an I have the brand also so it'll be an easy find ^^

From looking at Acer's site an there Price's/Upgrades PDF this laptop can have either the 9600M or the 9700M, but there's no option for any other video card updrades as the laptops very limited on the amount of space that would be needed to put something better then either the 9600m an 9700m so it would seem your stuck with the 9600M for the moment. >.< Personally I wouldn't use a laptop for any of the newer more graphically advanced games as most laptops don't have the horse power to play them at the fullest, so if your able to I'd just build a desktop thats more then capable of playing anything you want. Other then building a new system entirely there are ways to tweak your gamesettings.ini for better performance ingame basically just google better performance in ME2 (Mass Effect 2) and you should find some good ways to get more FPS out of your 9600M. Hope this helps. :D
