For Insanity Grunt's ability to not die overshadows anyone else's versatility. Also having a husk in your face that gets side tackled by Grunt's charge move is priceless.

The answer to that question varies wildly with style of play, much less character class.

With that said, I agree that Grunt and Miranda are powerful squadmates.

Thane, however, needs Medigel less than any other squadmate. In fact, I can recall only one time in any mission I've played that he had to be revived. Even then, I wound up killing two big mechs and he and Garrus revived on their own, without Medigel. His super-sniper ability is amazing.

Without Bonus-Power:
Grunt: Incendary Ammo and a lots of health
Miranda: Overload, Warp and a good bonus for the squad.

With Bonus Power:
Garrus: Overload for shields, Armor-Piercing Ammo for the great weapon-combi.
Grunt: Incendary Ammo and even more lots of health.

Although for a Sentinel Samara has some good uses too with her pull.

Is there still any debate about this?

I like Legion, with his Widow Rifle. He is my favorite character. He has saved me from Harbinger many times on the final mission.

I'm going to side with Team Miranda on this one. As JamesDBacon said, she has the bestest passive in the game!

If I had to pick a second... I would definetely pick Jack.

Mordin is also a good teammate right now since he has an insanely powerful incinerate and his shields aren't glitched.

Miranda is a good overall squadmate, so are Garrus and Grunt

Jack and Miranda are probably the best. Jack can use pull often and can give warp ammo to the whole team. And Miranda gives the whole squad a small health and damage boost plus overload and warp can be very useful.

for combat usefulness for me it comes down to Miranda and Legion

Miranda has squad buffs and can deal with any kind of defense very very well there's no situation your squad wouldn't benefit from her in some way.

Legion is great because he can get the Widow which turns him into the best sniper wielding squadmate at that point, he also has both a drone and AI hacking allowing him to draw a lot of fire off of your squad. That and his loyalty ability gives him excellent durability as well.

Runners up for me would be Grunt with his durability and close range damage and Garrus/Thane with sniper support and Shield/Barrier counters.

The squaddie that brings the most amount of usefulness in my opinion is Miranda. It's almost ridiculous.
Warp - Warp is almost TOO good in this game. It wrecks Barriers, Arnor, and Health, stops Health Regen, and the utility of Warp Detonations is just nuts,
Overload - What? Warp takes care of all defenses BUT Shields? Miranda says, "No problemo!". Overload rounds out her skills to make her versatile in any combat situation. Organics - Warp, Synthetics - Overload, Armor - W, Shields - Overload, Barrier - Warp.

Slam: Okay, So we have defense stripping and damage dealing down. How about crowd control? Sure, why not. I've never really used this skill though because between Warp, Overload, and...

CERBERUS OFFICER (ie: Greatest Passive EVA!!)... I don't focus on putting skill points into this... though with even 1 point it could also function like Pull to setup Biotic Combos... but I'm not gonna go there...

Getting back to Cerberus God (ahem, I mean Officer)... her non squad bonuses are quite respectable... but her 15/7.5 bonuses to Squad Weapon Damage and Squad Health... combined with the fact that she can strip all defenses AND can help setup/detonate biotic combos... Miranda = Best Squaddie IMO

Aside from that... the Mission, class, and Play style all affect squaddie choices. I am playing an Assault Sentinel (who doesn't focus on Bonus powers because the Sentinel has EVERYTHING he needs) and I like having Jack/Jacob around. They both fill the same role with Pull(CC, Detonation Setup) while providing a great Squad Ammo (Jack for allowing us to shoot enemies affected by her Pull with Warp Ammo / Jacob for increasing my killing speed after I remove enemy defenses with Warp/OLoad and for being harder to kill)

I also like Tali cause she can provide distraction with her Combat Drone and EDrain shields.

Grunt(tank) and Miranda(buffer) and me adept(cc).

jacob-useless unless on lower dificulty
jack-same as jacob
Garrus- paper thin defense, dies if you look at him sideways.
Mordin- good nuker, too bad that role is already taken (me)
Thane- shredder ammo?,ru kidding!
Samarra- reave!
Morinth- havent played, although dominate seems limited.
Tali- drone, good cc tool.i wish i had her against the yamir mechs on the prison ship.
legion- sniper with drone. (engineer sniper) great combo.have yet to play

i know an engineer sniper is called an infiltrator. i meant a sniper that distracts its target with a drone which an infiltrator cannot do.

Miranda all the way! I use her in every squad usually with Grunt or Garrus sometimes Thane.
