Also, I am only slightly ashamed to admit that I choked up a bit when I left my parents behind to die. Something about it just made me feel like I was there and going through those events.
Excellent dialogue; and I mean that throughout the entire game.

Personly I use quite some cliches in my own stories, but piling them up on each other and not adding small twists to the cliche isnt really helping.
To give an example, if you use a cliche for a princess locked up in a tower protected by a dragon that needs to be saved, the twist could be that there are two princesess and that one must remain in the tower. That would give it a whole new dimension then.
Many twists would be possible for Bioware's overdone "traumatic surprise attack" as well.
Like it being foiled for a change without anyone close to you dying, your character getting dragged half dead from the scene by more powerfull individuals, your character being captured and getting resqued by a relative or friend, finding out afterwards that your friends and family where actually quite evil and that their killers where actually a force of good, a third party getting involved during the attack to strike at both the attackers and the defenders, looting thieves getting involved in the chaos, making an unlikely ally of one of the attackers after you spare his/her life, your character being approached by the agressors to be bribed to help them, or refuse and try to protect those you hold dear with all your might, and if I really think about it for a few days I could come up with a lot more. This is just what I can come up with at the moment.
I dont mean to nitpick about one little origin, I am greatly enjoying the game furthermore but if its Bioware writers making the story I do expect better from them. They have a great reputation to uphold, and the better someone is at something, the more you expect from them at their field of expertize.
You wouldnt expect a five star chef to serve you simple french fries either, you would expect the french fries to have special herbs over them, be baked in different oil or otherwise be different from what you would buy in a snackbar. The taste can be good of course, but you would expect better in this case.

Except trying to write options for all that would be a pain in the butt. They do have to write a whole game. If your parents didn't die then they would need to have that and if they died reflected through out the game. The more options the worst it gets. I do not blame them for keeping it simple, especally when they still had other origins to work on as well.

As for showing up in armor, I can live with it as long as its suitable for a noble and not something most bandits would wear. Doesnt need to be of high quality, just needs to look impressive.
Might also make more sense if you would start with more money considering your noble status. I believe my city elf had more money and items at the end of his origin story.

I liked Baldur's Gate 1 much better where you could explore Candlekeep for hours and could really feel attached to your home and the freaky people there. It's just different in Dragon Age.
However, that's the only origin I played and the story takes off so freaking high that you're thinking you're watching some kind of Hollywood movie or reading some damn great book! My hat off to Bioware for the story!
For the record: BG2 is the best damn game ever, but the first dungeon sucked. I threw BG2 away for 8 months because I hated the first dungeon.
You can probably imagine how much I've bitten myself in the butt after I took the game out later that year again and played through the first level...

Must confess i've tryied all the origins, and guess the best ones r the dwarven's (imo).
Btw about the other points u mentioned, i don't think that Duncan being interessed in u at the beginnin is wrong, u're the 2nd child, and according to everyone a very good fighter, besides, he's there for Ser Dontrememberhisname (
there r finishin moves and i don't think there should be more (or more gory stuff tbh), there's plenty enough
About clichè...well every orgin has it's own dose of cliches (or however it's spelled eheh), trecherous neighbour, trecherous brother, stupid friend, ugly/bad "enemy" boss and so on, but i guess that's due to 2 main points:
1- almost everything you could write, in a fantasy setting, has already been written in some way
2- they had to make origins related and playable to the game.
i mean yes could be "fun" to say "ehi mom and dad p**s off i'm goin my own way, oh and Duncan..eat this!", then head out of the main gate..
but given this isn't a P&P RPG, it would have become a nightmare to develop it that way

The first time I played Human Noble, I adored it, but after trying both Dwarf options and Circle Magi, I sort of thought it was a bit plain. On the other hand, I expected the City Elf origin to be my favorite, and it did nothing for me. I still have to try Dalish.

Out of them all this one has to be the one I liked the most. The dwarf commoner/noble close second.

Personly I really despise nicknames of endearment or other name calling. I know that they cant say your character's first name but pup might even be confusing with his pet dog around.
I am still not sure what is worse, my character getting called pup in this origin, or my old rogue being called a boy by his adoptive father in neverwinter nights 2.
Probably my old rogue being called boy, by all logic he would show daegon a new world of pain and torture for that insult.
