Im about 1/3rd through my insanity vanguard playthrough. This is my second playthrough, my first was an insanity soldier playthrough. I enjoyed my soldier more than my vanguard, but the more I play vanguard the more I like it. I want to share some annoyances about playing the class, feel free to chip in with your own

1. Not being able to aquire targets for charge! Hate that crap, especially if its due to bugs and no other reason

2. Sprinting for cover and having the game put you in cover in the wrong spot because some fool made the sprint button the same as the cover button!

3. Not being able to turn while sprinting

4. Buggy cover mechanics and slow responsiveness causing you to hit the cover button multiple times, only to put yourself in cover, then out of cover

5. Reloading repeatedly because you refuse to play conservatively

6. Fighting the Praetorian with no heavy weapon ammo, no reave, and no teamates which can take down barriers.

7. Terrible long range abilities without a sniper rifle or reave.

Feel free to add your own

1. Use your goddamn guns or better yet: Pull.

2-5. Learn how to play the game + "WTF?! Turn while running?"

6. Play more defensively, conserve HW-ammo and make sure you have a good HW

7. You can get both / the Vanguard is supposed to be the CQC high-risk/high-payoff class, not every class excels in every area

For me, (1) is the only annoyance on my Vanguard. After being told, "I can't get a lock", even when I'm looking directly at the target with no obstructions between us, I decided to pick up Barrier. This way even if the targeting bugs out on me, I can just hit barrier and still survive.

Can't get a lock is really annoying, especially when you are like 3m away from the target and nothing stands between you.

I have to admit, I can only agree with number 1. It's one of the more frustrating things in the game, and it isn't helped by the total lack of explanation.

The rest... I don't really understand what they have to with being a Vanguard. The last two were completely whacked out... Terrible long range abilities without Sniper Rifles or Reave? Uh, surely that is fixed by, I don't know, taking Sniper rifles, or Reave? And wtf is this thing about fighting Praetorians with no heavy weapon ammo?

Anyone ever double charge? That irritates me when it happens.

Yes. Sometimes, when in the middle of a charge, if you press charge again it can bug out and cause your mouse to lock up and you can't look around anymore.

Also, sometimes you'll start a charge and it will use the cooldown but not charge.

Charge is pretty much useless for Vanguard compared to the other talents available for other classes singularity, cloak, time compression, mostly because of game dynamics (1.). For the most part it is an adept on steriods using mostly (Reave, Warp). Because of the universal cooldown, why charge into a crowd when your barrier gets ripped to shreds in seconds and you can't escape into cover quick enough.

if you charge a scion just as he does his close up aoe you charge but don't use a cd, letting you charge again, i think thats what he meant.

this has been proven comprehensively false, vanguard on insanity clears areas *way* faster than any other class.

edit: warp??

Your long range ability is charge.

If you have low fps it will interfere with charge targeting.  Update DirectX and drivers and drop resolution and effects

You can move left and right while sprinting by pressing 'a' and 'd' default keys.

There's nothing else to say.

I wish shotguns didn't suck so much. They took a good weapon in ME1 and made it almost useless against anything not standing right in front of you...

Why do people allways say "learn to play the game". Srsly games aint science or something really hard to do so stop pretending that you are a ****ing genius who plays better then every1 else.

I agree that force-binding one key to use + sprint + take cover was a boneheaded move.

Don't forget the bug where you charge and then get snapped back to your starting position and now have to wait for the cooldown before you can charge again. Seems to only happen against enemies with armor/shields/barriers, but not with health only.

I am still on my second playthrough, both vanguard (first veteran, now insanity). I always take the assault rifle on the collector ship. Now the bonus talent is reave.

I don't have much to complain. Assault rifle + squad members can deal with shields on long range. Pistol + team with armor. At short-middle range tempest rips through any shield, vindicator AR any armor.

I have charge maxed out (focus on single enemy), fire-ammo and champion. Pull kills opponents on bridges without protection (especially on long range). I probably don't play the typical vanguard, as I act more like a soldier, relying more on weapons, while biotics are just a bonus to save ammo or like charge to take tactical positions/buy myself time.

Except for very heavy armor I had no problems so far. For sure, I had to reload often, but still I like this class and I can't complain about anything missing.

Wait, did you first admonish people for saying they're better players than everyone else, then proceed to assert that if multiplayer was available you'd certainly come out on top?

Can't decide if this is a troll or you're just that dumb :wizard:

As for the OP, I agree with points 1, 2 and 4. Can't get a lock is annoying as ****, and the cover mechanics needs work. Wish there was a way to configure a sprint key that wasn't also cover.
