In my opinion, no, if i want some overpowered items i can make them with the toolkit for myself,

no need for an dlc that offers nothing really interesting beside that.

They could have made a lot more out of it but they didn't, well just my opinion.

They certainly could have made a lot more out of it.  But I think RTO as it is, is worth it.  It brought 'closure'.  It had 'dramatic" elements to it.  And  when you strike the killing blow  on a certain boss the first time you play....  well, lets just say that the achievement you get is one of the better feel-good moments in the game.

Thanks for the insights and lack of spoilers and I'm playing on the 360 (till I upgrade my video card) so... I'll probably get it. :)

If you play quickly, you'll probably think it wasn't worth it.  I've noticed people who say they whipped through it in less than an hour inevitably complain that it was too short.

I play slowly, so I thought it was worthwhile.  I spent well over an hour on it, but that's because I had to look at every little thing and mentally compare them to how they looked before the Battle of Ostagar.  And, like the poster above said, it does bring a certain sense of closure.

I looked at it this way: most movies nowadays are about 90 minutes (barring the occasional epic like Avatar), so for me, I was entertained for about 2/3 the length of a movie for less than 1/2 the cost.  (Plus, no crying kids or ringing cell phones, unless they're your own!)

Edited for formatting.

No. Bioware (EA) is milking us for our money. The only real point of the DLC is the gear, which won't, for some completely stupid reason, be taken with us into Awakening.

The gear is nice but not essential. Closure is what I got the most out of this DLC. Putting the King to rest properly.

In my current play-through, I'm saving this quest til after the Landsmeet. I plan to spare Loghain and take him back to Ostagar. It would be fitting justice and atonement on his part to bury the King he betrayed. I've read somewhere that the dialogue between him and Wynne is supposed to be quite ferocious. I've not got to that point yet, but I will.

It's not too bad imo.  If you compare the cost of it to the cost of the entire game I think it's a little overpriced, but it's not bad.

There are some good fights and you can only use so much gear.  It seems like the gear you get is best for rogues or for DW warriors.

Forget about Awakenings. The gear can still be used in any origins playthrough. I got my money's worth out of RtO because I ran different characters through it each time and got different responses. I got to see how Ostagar was changed since the PC went straight from the tower to the Wilds. If nothing else, it's always a nice backup in case you forget to get dog in the original Ostagar. (I now skip the flower quest in the wilds because I prefer getting the dog in RtO instead. That way I don't have to get stuck with the same old scene of Morrigan and Alistair squabbling about whether or not I let the dog tag along while en route to Lothering.)

I liked RtO for the elements of closure. You put the king to rest in a manner befitting his station, you recover a sword and armor that have strong family ties to Alistair, and you recover Duncan's sword and dagger. I had hoped to be able to recover Duncan's body as well, but at least we could send Cailan off properly.

It's been confirmed for release on March 11th. Read the thread for more PS3-related details, which also includes Awakenings.

It cost me ~£3.10 for the points for RtO.

I've played through it 3-4 times now. I would say that was worth it.

If you go there take Wynne along if you can, she was at the battle too, if you don't you won'T even get much comments out of the companions, sten had one comment too i think.
I tried talking to either Alistar/Logain/Wynne hoping to get a dialog or someting, i mean you would think they have something to say, but nothing... except some comments while exploring and when encountering Cailans corpse.

All in all i really think the dlc was rather cheap in the making, the szenario just seems kind of wasted on it. I just can't help getting this "rushed little money maker" feeling from it. A little bit more time invested could have made it a lot "deeper" by adding some more conversation/comments between the warden and companions.
And if you want to get any enjoyment out of it you should do it early in the game, if you do it with a bunch of level 20 characters like i did you'll start to wonder how they ever could loose to those guys, maximum level of the areas seems to be 13 or so. I needed a little bit over 30 minutes on my first play through, killing and looting everything, which means i saw pretty much all of it. Seriously just don't do it when you are high level.
The comments of Logain were kind of enjoyable though, tells you quite a bit about the guy and even about possible reasons for him to leave Cailan to the darkspawn.

The gear is cool since you get Cailans armor and I did the DLC well before I could use it and spent well over an hour on the DLC. I didn't rush it. It's worth the 5 bucks and it adds length. Its a fun little side quest so I reccommend it. :)

Wynne is always in my party as healer, alistar as full tank/shield.... its only pity for alistar if you take logain... alistar will leave party, and it would be nice to go you/alistar/wynne/logain to ostagar...

$5 is pretty cheap for entertainment ... but you don't get a lot for that much either.

IMHO the items were probably the most interesting things out of RtO and given that they don't transfer over into Awakenings they have limited value. As a quest I found it to be a bit below average and I didn't get much emotional satisfaction out of it, but it is something different especially if you've played the game before.

I've run into a few bugs with RtO ... my RtO codex entries are messed up ... and just last night I got stuck in a badly made graphical area while there and had to reload ... but neither of these are a big deal.

The getting stuck thing was actually one of the more amusing things for me. I "fell" into one of the pits in the tower that you normally can't walk into ... I could look up at my companions and everything ... but there was no way out.

I'm actually curious about this as well. When it was delayed I just forgot about it. I have just started another play though for choices I want in awakenings. I don't care about the items at all. Does it enhance the story? And is there a believable reason for doing the quest?

There are believable reasons for doing the quest, either right at the beginning of the game or right at the end.

There's not a lot to it aside from combat, but it's nice to revisit areas and get some closure from Ostagar.

I think I will get it. Not expecting much.
