Who doesn't use Miranda on every single mission in insanity?

I must have been the weird one that hardly ever used Miranda in my Insanity run. If anything, the only time I would bring a certain character is if it somewhat made sense, story-wise.

Miranda is good to have if its your first time through the game and you do not know what you are going to fight, but her bonuses do not help all that much, especially on higher difficulty levels.

She's certainly better than say Jacob, but she's far from a necessity.

I've done 2 playthroughs, both as soldiers. 1st playthrough on normal, 2nd on Insane. Both times I found Miranda the best all around squadmate. The only times I wouldn't bring her along would be missions where I need to figh a lot of Geth or Husks; in these cases I'd use a more specialized squad.

I'm curious about something.

Do you have to use all your squadmates in the missions to put their level points in befroe the final mission or will the game used the autoupgrade on them if you dont?

For example. Lets say I use the same 2 companions on all my missions (except on the loyalty ones) I gete to add points to their builds as needed before each mission.

Will this affect the outcome? I figure that you can maybe use your terminal to add the points to the crew without having to take them with you on missions, but what if you dont do it?

You can set them to autolevel, but I can't imagine many people doing this.  Their assigned abilities don't seem to have any real impact on the suicide mission at the end of the game that Ive seen anyone determine, so if you dont have an opportunity to assign all their points, dont sweat it.  The suicide mission comes down to some decisions earlier in the game, and the decisions you make during the suicide run as to who to use where.

Ive never lost a single crew/squad member on more than 4 playthroughs, and I never assign everyone's points.

I like Mordin more.

Miranda is decorative.

Miranda is well rounded, but I'm slowly changing my tune about her overall usefulness. Her shields are thin and her raw damage is poor.

Right now on a soldier insanity run I'm finding Grunt and Zaeed to be good squaddies. Not much finesse but they're pretty tough little wrecking balls.

Miranda is handy, but for my Insanity Infiltrator I prefer the firepower of say a Grunt/Garrus combination (in many cases Grunt can also survive having to take some fire while I'm cloaked, which is also worth something).

I barely use Miranda at all, except in the beginning where there's not much choice.

I use whoever I think will give best dialogue. I don't really need squad mates any more, picking the right ones helps though.

She's the best squaddie period due to her all around usefulness but she's not the best squaddie by such a large margin that you 'have' to take her. Her weak shields are basically what drags her down to the level of the other squad members. If she had higher shields then it would be no contest.

I find her damage to be fairly good (switch to her pistol on organic or armored stuff if need be) and if you keep her in the back or have someone beefier closer to the enemy for them to focus on instead of her, she can deal some real havoc.

I don't use her because I find myself distracted when she runs ahead of me.

Miranda -> Engineered perfection -> Distraction-al Bi-Product

On Tali's recruitment mission I prefer Garrus + Zhaed (Squad Disrupter Ammo).

Otherwise I'm a big Miranda fan. It's nice that every single power cooldown she has can be used on something useful, regardless of if the enemy has shields/barrier/armor/nothing.

I'm certain someone mentioned this already, but she dies more often than any other squaddie I've ever used. She is fragile and her AI is faulty at best.

Her abilities are useful, but aside from the passive bonuses, they are all replaceable.

Probably the latest point in the game I use her is Tali's recruitment
mission.  She's indispensible in the early parts, but it's hard to justify pure support characters as your offensive selection becomes more diversified.

Just to be clear on the way damage stacks, every bonus you get is added to your damage as (base * bonus%/100); they are not multiplied on top of eachother like in most RPGs.  By the time you have multiple 50% bonii stacked, her passives are pretty negligible.

Her abilities are incredibly useful but I find her AI to be terrible. She often finds it amusing to run into melee with her SMG against 10 mechs/mercs even when I tell her to take cover. I usually only have her on the squad for eye candy anymore.

Miranda stays confined to her quarters on the Normandy. The only time I let her out is to help her sister and when we first dock at Omega.

I want to use other teammates but it seems her squad passives are just too good to pass up.

I test it out.Her passives doesnt make a difference on insanity. For collectors, samara and thane are better.
Enemies with shields:Garrus and Zaeed with squad disruptor.

Blood pack:Mordin and Samara.

Her passives dont compensate her poor weapon damage and inferior skillsets.(Reave is better against barriers, and Samara could use the vindicator)

This may be in part because you're telling her to use an SMG. Squad AI will favor moving into effective attack range and the SMG is a short range weapon. She'd probably survive better if you told her to use her pistol.

That doesnt make sense against enemies with shields or barrier.

Haha yeah I wish. I was just using the SMG-melee thing as an example, she charges into melee often regardless of her weapon choice.

They did a fantastic job of squad mate balancing IMO.

To me I could take any squadmate along, in any mission and live easily, even on insanity.

It certainly helps on certain missions to be selective (Zaeed for Geth Missions), but by no means is it a pre-requsite for success.

All squaddies are useful IMO
