Ok this bugs the hell out of me cause i believe its needed to be enabled when playing but when hard ware acceleration for audio is enabled all the sound effects are like increased like 100 fold and they are the loudest ever (i could not actually hear conversations aboard the normandy when i started a game because of the white noise of space and all the beeps and boops of the controls). When i turn it off though and restart all is well with the sound that is until actually game play happens. Like when jenkins gets shot by those geth drone and you have to fight them the music would start to play but then instantly cut out and start up and stop again, also when ever i fired my weapon the sounds would only like play like half their duration and then cut out. I have reason to believe there are problems with my audio drivers but i want a second opinion first cause i have had bad expirences with installing new audio drivers.
Any one else had this problem or know of a way to fix it?

Your sound driver is horribly out of date. Please download and install an update.

I have this issue, I have on board sound at the moment tho my old card died.
Anyway that should not matter because the sound worked fine till I patched the game, I did not patch at first was too lazy till I found out you could not talk to kaiden or liara without the game messing up.
So found the patch in stalled fixed the issues but the sound then became FUBAR.
So what is the problem?
if it worked without the patch then the patch did something to mess it up.

I had a very similar problem initially. I solved it by updating my drivers.
Though that created (or maybe it was already there, I don't know) a problem where certain sounds were glitched or not even there. Say in the Citadel, in certain areas the walking noise is very stuttery, some background noise is very stuttery, and if I go in the bar with the Quasar machines, all of the sound cuts out. There's also other areas in the game where the sound just dies on me. Edit: Just realised it's because my integrated sound wasn't supported. Strange, I swear that wasn't there when I looked a few weeks ago.
