THIS THREAD CONTAINS EXTREME SPOILERS ABOUT MASS EFFECT1 AND MASS EFFECT2

Edited the post with information on what affects what. If you have info about those flags I didn't explain (because I had diffrent quest outcomes in ME1) please - post it and I'll edit the posts if I still can.

I used search and couldn't find a toppic that would gather concrete information about what decisions carry over from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2 and beyond, some of the things I will post here were mentioned in other threads, but never in one place or one toppic. Also, there are some less obvious choices than "Killed or Saved the Council" ones that I will list here

Those are the flags stored in your Mass Effect 2 save game that refer to Mass Effect 1. I'm not sure if all of them impact your gameplay in any way, I'm also not sure if those are all the decisions that carry over - if it's not mentioned on the list but it impacts the game - it's not my fault if you miss it - the best way to ensure that you experience the next games on a full scale is to finish ALL quests in Mass Effect 1. This list is just what gets stored in your ME2 save:

[UNC:Hades Dogs]- found files = fought Cerberus (affects few dialogue options)
[UNC:Cerberus]- obtained quest = heard of Cerberus (affects few dialogue options)
[Citadel:Asari Consort]- completed quest (recive an e-mail from the Consort)
[Citadel:Asari Consort]-recived Trinket (check below)
[Citadel:Asari Consort]-used trinket on Eletania (no effect visible in ME2, maybee in ME3)
[Citadel:Doctor Michel]-killed blackmailer (recive an email from Doc. Michel)
[Citadel:Doctor Michel]-persuaded blackmailer (recive an email from Doc. Michel)
[Citadel:Homecoming]-returned body (recive an email from Samesh Bathia)
[Citadel:I Remember Me]- bait and switch (check below)
[Citadel:I Remember Me]- talked Talitha down (recive an email from Talitha)
[Citadel:Old Friends]- killed Finch (finch is dead)
[Citadel:Old Friends]- met Finch (recive an email from Finch if he's alive)
[Citadel:Old, Unhappy, Far-Off Things]- spoke to mom (recive an email from mom)
[Citadel:Scan the Keepers]- accepted quest (recive an email from Chorban)

This list of flags can be found in Gibbed's Save Editor (PC ONLY AS FAR AS I KNOW) (you can download it here). With this editor you can modify your Mass Effect 2 saved games and change all the flags listed above (if you select/unselect flags that rule out/exclude each other or are impossible to get selected/unselected on ruring a normal ME1 playthrough, something is probobly bound to get screwed up), HOWEVER, if I understand how it works - you need to use the modified save game as a source for New Game+ to apply any changes. This means you should save before triggering the Omega4 Relay, edit your save, reload it in game and finish ME2 using it - this will create a New Game + save where the changes SHOULD apply - it's only theoretical, I never tested it and I don't come ranting on me because you wasted your time to do this... but it would be nice if someone test it out, and tells me and others if it works as it should.

-If works can be used to create a savegame with other ME1 decisions without actualy replaying the first game from scratch, also you can change your class with the editor, so no ptoblems with Game+.
-In case of confusion - some flags add up, for example the flag "romance someone" must be up to "romance Ashely" work properly I can imagine - most confusion can happen here with the Feros quests.

PS. Using the editor is possibly a way to solve the Conrad Verner "gun in the face" bug.
PS2. I'm not a supporter of the "gay shepard" idea but if you are ready to waste your time and risk it won't work anyways - you potentially can set the "Kaidan romance" flag for a male Shepard but be warned - your save will most likely become usless when it comes to ME3 import... or it might just crash your game at some point. And I beg you, if you want to post in this thread - post only technical info about if this works or no - no other comments about gay Shepard - not because I don't want those kind of comments here, because I don't want the thread turning into a pile of spam and flames.
PS3. Don't PM me with complains about the save edits not working and "how to do it" questions - I never sayed I'm sure they will work, and I hope I explained how to test it out... wherer it works or not - post a comment here.

Hah! I doubt they'll sticky it, but it is interesting. I also find it weird that some things I would think would carry over don't. Like Helena Blake apparently. We meet her in 1 and 2 and she's still a powerful figure (If now subservient to Aria) so why not 3?

She does get flaged:
[UNC:Hostile Takeover]- accepted money
[UNC:Hostile Takeover]- persuaded to disband the gang
if none of those checked - means she's dead or you never met her.

I'm not sure the Conrad Verner thing is accurate. I never ran into him on Illium during my imported Paragon playthrough.

As I mentioned, it's bugged. Even if you persuaded him, he tells you you shoved a gun up his face. Anf if you never met him on Illium - you probobly never finished that quest in ME... else - I dunno.

On my last ME1 playthrough I went full paragon and convinced Conrad to go home. In Gibbed's editor, I had both [Citadel:The Fan]- charmed him and [Citadel:The Fan]- intimidated him checked. He complained about me sticking a gun in his face which is what happens when you play his sidequest as the renegade version.

Again - it's sayed in the OP that it's a bug. It's eigter Mass Effect 1 making an error while saving it or Mass Effect 2 making an error while loading it. It's allways like that as far as I know.

I suspect that this is connected to Emily Wong.  I got an e-mail from her, which indicates that the results of her mission (or both missions) carries over to the second game, but if there's something else on your list that's connected to her, then I completely missed it.  Also, there's a video news channel in the Zakera Ward (different from the audio news bulletins) that has her as the newscaster.  Whether she appears or not may be connected to whether you helped her in the first game.

"Expose" in this case should probably have an accent over the second 'e', which changes it from a verb to a noun and also changes the pronunciation.

Based on what people are saying, this flag might also be bugged -

... since there's apparently an announcement that Shaira is in trouble for espionage regardless of how that mission line turns out in the first game.  Also, another problem area has been with the Sirta Foundation announcements, which people believe are connected to how the Paragon mission in ME1 is handled (i.e. free drugged hostages from biotic terrorists), but I don't see a flag for that mission.  As an alternative, that announcement may be tied to Dr. Michel's blackmailer.

Ah yes... you're probobly right. The quest name was something like Expose Crime on the Citadel and you could give info to Emily. Edited the list with this info.

One thing you might want to add Kusy is how Garrus' attitude is shaped, which isn't in the flags list.

It's under the values tab, which I assume changes depending on how you handle his assignment (possibly Normandy dialogue too?).

btw, CITADEL HOMECOMING = if you return natalias body to samesh he sends you an email. i think thats about it.



the outcome of the choice as it affects military research is yet to be seen however (if it even has any impact at all)

This affects minor dialogue during his recruitment mission and loyality mission. I didn't mention those in the OP because when I messed with the values tab my save started crashing the game.
