There will be new squad members in ME3. A few favorites might return but since anyone can die none of these should be vital to the story. Bioware has its work cut out if they intend to keep all the originals and add new recruits for those who died. And no, I don't believe in 'punishing' players that lost alot of guys. Replacements should be available.

I do think they should.

But I don't think they wouldn't be in because in ME2 it was about building a team and in ME3 I don't want to build another because I have a loyal one already.

Also Bioware said that LI carry all the way to ME3.  That makes me happy and everybody else.

Any survivors from the first 2 games should be in ME3 and recruitable. If the Reapers are a threat to all life in the galaxy, why wouldn't they join up with you? Liara....is tracking the Shadow Broker really going to matter when the Reapers are killing EVERYONE? Wrex...is Tuchanka really going to be worth saving when a dozen Reapers surround the planet?

I hope we do not have squad members forced on us and we can truly build our own squad. Make every character in ME 1 & 2 recruitable...but give them the option to turn you down based on decisions you made. Take Ash/Kaidan for example...if you stayed loyal to them, destroyed Collector base, and told TIM to go screw himself then you prove you were not working FOR Cerberus...but using them. Ash/Kaidan join your crew. If you cooperated with TIM....they walk and refuse to join.

Also, introduce new characters for ME3 by having Shephard learn about them through talking with people. This would allow us to hear about someone, then we would have to go talk to other people who may know this character....the more we learn, we decide if we want to go find them and recruit them. This could even be done with expansion packs. Allow us to talk with more people and allow us to learn some new names and a little bit about the new characters for ME3. Or maybe give us an expansion pack with more missions and on these missions we hear about, or even meet, potential squad members in ME3.  That way when ME3 does come out, we already have a sense of the new characters and jump right into the epic fight to save the galaxy.

No loyalty missions in ME3. I enjoyed them in ME2 but let's face it, if the fate of every living being in the galaxy is at stake in ME3, will going back to the research facility you escaped from just to blow it up really be worth it?

I fully agree - I think you make the case well, Big.

Tali and Garrus were the BEST missions in ME2 imo because they were returning characters. It takes time to warm to a character and to toss away all the set up from the first games for new characters in ME3 would just be silly.

Besides, after Horizons and Nos Astros, we need a DANG good reconciliation scene between Shep and ME1 squadmates. Especially if a romance was involved.

Also, unless the plan is for Shep to play alone the whole game, squadmates really should be from the existing/remaining crew + ME1 survivors. At this point, the narrative just begs for it.

I want all members from ME2 to be recruitable in ME3. I want All surviving squadmembers from ME1 to be recruitable in ME3 (Wrex/Ash/Kaiden/Liara). And I want 4 new characters introduced in ME3 to be recruited. For a total of 20 squad members in ME3.

you will say "that is too many" and i will say, that is what i want. you're allowed to want something else. i really want the whole crew at my disposal.

I want everyone from ME1 and ME2 to be possible squadmates in ME3. I do not want any more recruiting. Besides, players should be punished for losing squadmates in ME2's suicide mission. Why? Because you have to literally suck to lose most of your squad.

No more freakin' recruiting, I did enough of that in ME2. I do NOT want to do it again in ME3.

If there was a whole new squad in ME3, then what was the whole point of ME2? It would be a waste, and of course I need Thane by my FemShep's side. :P

x 10000!

I want to build / expand / evolve our current squad.

We've done our recruiting and assembled our Team Full Of Awesome.  I do not want to recruit / assemble Team Full of Awesome 2.0.

Come on, how much time you spent on recruiting people in ME1?
They filled ME2 with recruitment/loyalty missions, because they could not fill it with hours of important decisions without creating a huge amount of possible repercussions for ME3. Look, really important decisions from Mass Effect One (abandon/save the Council, kill/spare the Rachni queen, endorse/deny Saracino) are pretty much pending. Still, ME2 managed to pile up some more of those (Geth fate, Quarians fate, Krogans fate, and, of course, Collector Base decision).

This makes it up to 200 possible combinations of choices to deal with.

And there is somewhat between 2 and 16 thousand possible combinations of surviving squadmates from ME1&2. I am sure, they'll do their best not to chop off all the "expendables" right away, but I wouldn't bet any money on any particular character having more then a 5-minute cameo, one holo-phone call or a vidmail, in ME3.

Only Liara and Ashley/Kaidan have good chances for becoming "full-time" squadmates, with Legion being "above average". Of course, Talibance fundamentalists can push Tali ahead of any other "expendable", they've proven it. But that's about it.

My thoughts related to the topic:

I agree that the ME3 team should mostly be ME1 and ME2 sqaudmates. For trilogy, having yet another installment with a brand spanking new team is not only stupid, it's lazy. There is no good reason to have another squad except that Bioware does not want to truly deal with the consequences of having a branching story through three games. If the ME3 squad is even close to being mostly new members, ME3 will stay on the shelf for me... it would be clear sign that choice truly doesn't mean a damn thing in the trilogy.

I think it would make absolute sense to have all surviving squad mates from the first two Mass Effect's as your squad in Mass Effect 3. You scoured the galaxy in ME2 to find the best of the best for a suicide mission, so why in the hell would you need to go back out and find new squad members for another mission? These people are loyal to you and have been to hell and back for you. Every character that had a cameo in ME2 had their reasons for not joining you, but those reasons should either be gone (in the case of your love interest) or negligible (in the case of Wrex and Liara). We have grown to love these characters over the two years since Mass Effect 1 and now have grown accustomed to the new ones in Mass Effect 2, and will be even moreso by the time Mass Effect 3 lands. Is anyone really going to feel as attached to any new characters they announce for Mass Effect 3, considering they will only be in one game of the trilogy? It makes sense to the plot to include ME1 and 2 squad mates, it makes to the characters to stay beside their commander and it makes sense to the fans to give them what they want. I will be very disappointed if everyone is reduced to cameos and I have to spend another game investing in new characters. Please Bioware, let us end this trilogy with who we want

I think Liara and Wrex would be the only two former squad members that would make sense not returning as squad members.  Liara can do alot of good where she's at and so can wrex.  Having them come along would undermine the influence and power they hold.  I mean, Liara could be the new Illusive Man, giving you intel on new assignments and wrex would be leading the Krogans on whatever assignments you give them.  That's not to say that Liara can't be a LI, just that she wouldn't make much sense as a squadmate.  Everyone else though should come back as squadmates.

I can understand if Mordin and Thane didnt return because of health/age problems. Mayybe Legion and Grunt.

Other then that, all the rest better stay.

Exactly.  The rest should be in it in some form.  Even if it's just as nonsquad members, I would hope we would see everyone alot.

Liara for example doesn't have to be a squad member for me but should be constantly contacted and serve as Shepard's  major/main intelligence source in ME3 (main intelligence source if you quit Cerberus at the end of ME2).

Every squad mate that survived ME1 and ME2 will appear in ME3 at least as a cameo (except maybe Thane)

At this point having to recruit another group would be just tedious to me. Also story wise how do you write something that in any way makes getting a new group make sense. You had a diverse group from me1 plus you recruited the BEST in me2, who else do you really need?

Keep something in mind, to get you this new group they had to kill you and destroy the Normandy. If they wanted to build another whole new group they have to basically kill you again because as long as your alive most are sticking with you. I also don't see the devs wasting disk space building back stories for another group when that would already be taken care of by the previous 2 games. you got to figure that most people who are going to buy 3 have already played at least ME2 but most likely both(I know there will be a few that will buy the third brand new to the series but there is no way you can logically assume that will be the mojority) and already have a vested interest in the characters that are already here.

Another reason I believe they will use most of the same people is a time issue. From everything I've read they plan on getting ME3 out quicker than ME2 came out. If that is the case it would be easier to use the already developed characters because all the work is pretty much done with them. They don't have to figure out the looks, build the computer models, find the voice actors, and write a back story. If they used the same characters all they would have to do would spend some time furthering the development(something they would have to do anyway to satisfy fans regarding the romantic subplots) instead of building from scratch. Heck you spent most of ME2 finding a team and getting to know them through the loyalty mission, are they planning on making you spend most of the third game getting you a new team and making you care about them as well.
