Do you do both at the Landsmeet? Is there a way of setting it up or is it just a question of picking the right dialogue options?  I couldn't do either. Alistaire just ignored my suggestions.  How does it work?

Are you sure this is possible? I have never seen/heard of anything like this.

its possible people have been telling people how to do it all day, you have to do allisters personal quest and afterwards when he's talking to you, you have to tell him that people are always after something or something like that, then you also have to do a follow up in camp with him but the dialogue only comes up if you have him at like 76% i beleive they said, anyway you have to tell him the same thing in camp or it wont work, the poin is to "harden" him so he's less whinny and more mature, then before the landsmeet you have to convince him AND anora that they should get married, then at the lansmeet you should be able to figure out the dialogue to use (Note: Allister will still leave the team, but he will also become king and stay alive along with loghain) and that is everything that i have been told today, hope it helps :)

I always assumed that ending was some myth a bunch of people came up with, but now I think I may try that in a playthrough just to see what the effect would be in Awakening.

1. Harden Alistair

2. Convince Anora and Alistair to marry

3. Have anyone BUT Alistair duel Loghain at the Landsmeet

i can see where this is feasible; i did notice some discontinuities between my choices and the ending scenes... and i suppose "leaving the group" doesn't necessarily mean "not becoming king"... and this would actually provide a way for those soft-hearts to prevent the other ending with alistair when you choose to keep Loghain...
each step listed above is clearly important, but the piece that took me a while to figure out was to be sure to convince Alistair and Anora to marry before initiating the Landsmeet; talk to them at Arl Eamon's Denerim abode.

Quite possible, I've done this. I think it's possible the most Alistair-torturing ending you can pick, though...

However the epilogue indicates that this is best ending for the kingdom as the combination of Anora's administrative skills and Alistair's leadership skills results in a golden era for Ferelden. And the two even seem to have settled into an amiable marriage. However you really need a very high adore rating with Alistair to get him to accept letting Loghain live. Otherwise he will insist on killing Loghain and that automatically kills any chance of a marriage with Anora.

I have heard this opinion before and I don't agree.  The epilogue indicates that Anora and Alistair do learn to get along as time goes by and that the people start to think that the blight was a good thing in disguise after all because it brought their beloved monarchs together...   This is a much better ending for Alistair then having him become a has been bar fly.  Or being drug off and executed.

Oh, I didn't mean the Anora-marrying, so much as the Loghain-as-overprotective father-in-law bit! XD

...I mean, you do remember how he treated her last husband, right? :pinched:

@ kateri_t: why would Loghain be an overprotective father-in-law for more than, oh, a few days? He totally makes the Ultimate Sacrifice. That way my PC lives on (Awakenings), Alistair lives, and Morrigan (or more likely Flemeth) doesn't get an Old God baby.

@Atranes: of course that's a better option. But I was working from the assumption that "keeping Loghain alive" involved *not* feeding him to the Archdemon. ;)

Anyway, I have a PC who recruited Loghain, married Alistair to Anora but gave Morrigan a Tainted Bun in her Magical Oven because he was in love with her, and wanted to. *shrug*. Therefore, Alistair ends up with Loghain as his Grey Warden father in law, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy! :crying:

Excellent. I had been leery about getting Alistaire's friendship too "high" as I worried the game would go into its auto romance mode and make him try to be my gay lover. Thanks for the help!.

I think If Loghain lives....don't he have to do the Joining? And if thats agreed Alistair will leave the party for ever.

I just slaughter Loghain.

I got Alistair to agree to marry the queen when he was only 43 aprroval.

Weird. I have Alistair at 100, did his personal quest, gave him Duncan's shield too, and talked to him until he had nothing left to say. I must have said something wrong to him at some point. I dueled Loghain, but in the end, it didn't work out... Ah well. Maybe I'll try it the other way with a new character.

I wonder if letting Loghain live will have any impact on Awakening. If you let him live, doesn't he become an emphatic Grey Warden recruiter? Sounds pretty useful for an organization that has barely any members left.

Although having a Warden as king definitely helps too.

I just completed my fourth playthrough and did exactly this. I hardened Alistair, convinced him and Anora to marry. I dueled Loghain. And at the end, though Alistair left the team, he still married Anora. In fact, the epilogue cards at the end said that he and Anora were EXTREMELY popular and were quite the effective pair.

I think, since Allistair leaves your group, you can no longer romance Alistair, but that is just my theory I haven't tried.

If Loghain lives, Alistair hates you forever but he does congratulate you on killing the ArchDemon. Otherwise, he just becomes a bit player NPC whom you can't influence or interact with anymore. I like Loghain better anyways.
