Having almost finished my second playthrough and after reading "The Stolen Throne," I've come to the conclusion that Loghain is hands down, one of the most realistic villains I've encountered in fiction for quite some time. His motives are very believable, along with his corruption through both his own increased power alongside Howe whispering in his ear. My congrats and thanks to the writers for bringing us this excellent character - after all, a story is only as good as its villain :P

I agree wholeheartedly. Howe is a total slimeball and I love Tim Curry but hands down Loghain is a much more interesting villian because of his depth and the length of his fall.

After I understood Loghain, I saw him as an antagonist, not a villain.

Likewise (I enjoyed your tribute video, btw, KoP).

I have a lot of sympathy for the man because I understand where he's coming from. A few years ago I was a hardcore UO player, and helped run a roleplay army guild as assistant GM. It was a pretty badass guild - the ethos was much like Mandalorians but in a UO setting. We were the guild everyone loved to hate but secretly admired, like a heel wrestler. The problem was the guild master decamped to WoW (along with a lot of other UO roleplayers) and I ended up trying to hold together a crumbling guild for several years, with little help from anyone else. I did it because I really did care about it, but I also felt it was entirely my responsibility. I became a bit of a tool, if I'm being honest, because I cared too much - I'd feel betrayed by guildmembers who'd eschewed the things I'd arranged to go play WoW or join other, more prosperous guilds, and I was angry a lot of the time.

Obviously, hugely different set of circumstances, but I relate to that mindset and have every sympathy for the character.
