So whats your opinion?

I actually like the grenade launcher the most, it can knock down enemies who have full barriers up.

The Cain is good for skipping fights, as it annihilates anything if it lands for the most part.

Particle beam is a good sniper weapon

Aside from that, I hate all other heavy weapons. Firestorm is especially bad on insanity. Missle launcher seems to suck because it loses targeting if u take cover. Avalanche isnt my cup of tea either.

Arc Projector: This is my new favorite heavy weapon along with the Cain

I like the 100.  Being able to put it in the middle of a pack of husks is nice (no tracking), and it will stagger a MRV or Geth Prime while you pummel it to strip armor.  After the armor is gone, the singularity will take over, but you need to buy time!

Firestorm sucks.  Avalanche is kinda fun, but also objectively sucks... maybe better if playing as a soldier without any immobilizing weaponry.

Caine is a little ammo-hungry, but amazing.  :)    The particle beam takes a long time to do the job... I don't like being exposed like that.

I find the GL the most useful overall and the cryo gun the least useful.

I really like the blackstorm for taking out large groups of husks and it looks awesome when the singularity explodes. The grenade launcher is also a pretty decent weapon

The Cain is absolutely useless on anything other than the final boss. I like the first one best.

My favorite is the blackstorm, if you don't have eb games or gamestop near you, i guess caine or the grenade launcher is best. I usually only use it vs bosses or packs of mobs. Grenade launcher is good vs snipers if you don't have one.

I have used the particle beam far more than anything else. I have yet to successfully use the cain in 2 3/4 playthroughs of the game so far. I use the missile launcher 2nd most.

I completely agree.

Also i'm sad they took out grenades because of this, in ME1 I used well placed grenades all the time. The grenade launched does not make them redundant at all.

I use the missile launcher a lot in the early game. Its great for taking out Ymir mechs that are slowly advancing on your position. You can fire it quickly and get back under cover, and since they don't hide, there's no chance of the missile losing lock on.

Late game I prefer the collector beam.

I have the blackstorm, but I really hate the delayed firing time.

Try it on Aria's side quest she gives you after helping out, it does wonders.

Its too ammo consuming IMO to be used except a few times in the game though.

Hello,

My preference goes to the Cain, for it's ability to turn a long and tedious fight into a large crater; and the Grenade Launcher, for it's heavy damage.

Cain was entirely useless. The best HW is easily the Collector Particle Beam.

I used to think the Avalanche was the worst heavy weapon, but it does wonders against defenses by stripping them so quickly with a large blast. Blackstorm is great against groups but sometimes hard to hit with (still does wonders against Geth Colossus). Worst HW has to be Missile Launcher because I only find it useful against Gunships. If there's anything else around it's hard to get the missile to go where you want.

I vote for the Firestorm, as it's a good close range neutraliser. It's magic during the IFF mission.

The Blackstorm is OK for crowd clearing early on, but you have to expose yourself too much due to the charge time.

And naturally, Avalanche is by far the worst in every aspect.

In order of usefulness for me, Cain, Blackstorm, Grenade Launcher. Everything else is just a toy.

I find myself using Blackstorm until getting Cain, and then Cain the rest of the game through. Why you ask. Well the majority of the time I play weapon heavy classes, Soldier, Infiltrator, Vanguard, and tend to shoot my way out of any problem, saving that Cain shot I've been slowly building throughout the level for things that I really don't want to bother with, like a pair of Mechs or a Praetorian. Even on Insanity, while it doesn't seem to just destroy them, it cuts the fight time down quite a bit. And it's definately a good fireworks show.

The particle beam is the winner for me. I liked the directed nature of it.

The blackstorm would have been cool except once it has fired the thing that you are firing at has moved. It is for crowd control and that is not really what the heavy weapons in this game are for. They are for taking out the boss characters.

Overall though the Cain is the best heavy weapon. I use my more conventional weapons to deal with most situations; but when you're up against a big ass boss having a giant can of whoop ass sitting in your back pocket is mighty nice.

On a side note...

I actually like the Firestorm a lot. If your playing a mission with a ton of Husks on insanity it's extremely useful especially if you're not packing anything that will go fully auto (say if you're like me and love the Vindicator BR). Once the husks get close enough you can just back peddle and burn the sons of ****es; plus its really makes your power cells go a long way

I disagree, big time. Quoting myself

I'm sure if someone did the math on how many heavy ammo chests there are on each level they would be able to figure out when you could squeeze in some heavy weapon use while still having the cain available for whatever missions it is you use it on. I mean, it's never something spontaneous for me, I use it at the same spots every time I play.

1.) Garrus' recruitment boss. It's not that it's a hard fight, it's just I want to get the level over with early
2.) Samara recruitment boss. Essentially the same boss, and the same reasons as Garrus' recruitment.
3.) Thresher Maw
[edit here] Forgot the preatorian on the collector ship is before Garrus' loyalty mission.
4.) Garrus' loyalty mission. The part where there is a YMIR mech, 4 standard mobs, and a blue suns commander is a **** as a vanguard. Would rather just cain the YMIR which kills everything except for 1 standard mob that's too far back and takes the YMIR down to 1/4 armor.
5.) Suicide mission hull breach
6.) End game.

I'm sure there's some room in there to use something else in between while allowing for 100% at all those points but I'm way too lazy to figure that out.

You don't need heavy weapons for standard or even elite mobs, which is why I don't care that it's best used on bosses. They're the only ones worth using it on any way.

The cain hardly does much to bosses with huge health and YMIR mechs on insanity. Doesn't mean that I don't use it though. I've found more use out of the blackstorm and grenade launcher.

1. The little nuke, although I use it only rarely. On those rare occasions, however, nothing else will do. (See "save the crates.")

2. Particle beam. I use it more than all the rest put together — except for my "special" (see below.)

3. Firestorm. Fried charging Krogan, anyone? Also, previous poster was right about clearing away husks. Another important advantage is that it uses the least heavy weapons ammo of any other. All in all, however, it's a close-quarter weapon only. Use it only in tight spaces.

4. Grenade launcher. You can bounce one around a corner or fire at a wall.

5. My special, a poor man's heavy weapon: A Revenant LMG with fully developed disruptor and inferno ammunition options.

I really don't get the people saying the Cain is useless! It's the main heavy weapon I usualy have equipped, mainly because the others seem to do less dmg/have less utility than the weapons/skills I have to hand. Probably second place goes to the grenade launcher for being aoe.

The Cain on the other hand is nice e.g. for softening up Praetorians on Insanity, or for overkill when you really want everything to just die...now :)

1. Collector's Particle Beam. It's good against everything. On higher difficulty levels against things the Cain can't take down, you get more done with the CPB.

2. Cain. Because Praetorian on the Collector Ship mission deserves it.
