Oh, Avalanche, you know I cannot say you are not the most wonderful piece of artillery.

Arc Projector, Cain and the Avalanche are all I will ever use on Insanity.

I typically don't touch my heavy weapons unless I really, really, REALLY need a way out asap. In these situations, nothing quite clears the dance floor like the Cain. Plus, I like the theatricality of killing the final boss with the mini nuke.

Worst is Blackstorm, for the simple reason that i don't have it, and that makes me sad.

Practically never touch the HW not even on insanity. Dont find them useful. But for the topic, I would say cain / blackstorm for best and probably the flamethrower for worst. Though I cant bring myself to equip anything other than the missile or grenade launcher :)

Edit: forgot about the flamethrower.

Collector's particle beam. Just seems more broadly useful than any of the other heavy weapons. I don't think I ever ran into something I wanted to use it against that rendered it ineffective...

Sadly though, my opinion is pretty distorted... I don't think I even used more than 3 of the heavy weapons. Not sure why this turned out. Is the Collectors Particle Beam supposed to be the "best"? I think I assumed so due to it being "collectors" technology.... and thus more advanced than any technology produced by the organic races in ME2. This is probably why I would have decided to just stick with it.

I'll have to replay it and experiment more with the different guns...

^Indeed. I can never get enough cryo, and the avalanche gives plenty of that (even though I only use it on engineers, and sentinels (sparingly)).

Did people ever read my post? It is months old by now and just lately people seem to acknowledge the awesomeness the Avalanche inherits.

Oh ye mighty storm of Ice and Wind, I shall be thy prophet and bring rain upon the evil, and I shall never fear death for I am snap freezing the Reaper that will not bow before thee and I will toss his stiff ass about like a ragdolled lamppost and shatter will my enemies for to I am thy will made trigger-happy Image IPB

Funnily enough, I enjoy the Avalanche because it strips protections very quickly. I strongly dislike the freezing mechanic because enemies tip over too much when I freeze them at a distance. I'm usually working at a distance.

Try Sentinal+Assault Armor+Avalanche. You really should do. It fun, ... muehehehe. Let's just say you'll get the shivers everytime there is some fight going on, that's how cool the weapon is.

Try it. Caster Sentinal with Power Armor+Avalanche+Heavy Throw is like playing Bowling on an Icefield.

This is correct. I operate best at middling ranges, which is why my favorite classes in the game are Infiltrator and Soldier.

Getting back to the subject of heavy weapons, I'm starting to notice the joys of using the grenade launcher, or "Old Reliable." It's proving to be a barrel of fun to scatter enemies with a single shot.

^It's also nice that the Avalanche and Grenade launcher handle exactly the same. I'm not sure if you can safely land a grenade on your feet like can with the Avalanche though.

Avalanche was always in my top 3, and eventually moved to number 1 spot; once the novelty of the cain and the trivialising of fights by the arc projector both wore off.

The first time I tried Squad Cryo on board the Dead Reaper and saw all the Husk-sicles my squadies were making, I was sold :wizard:

You're not alone in this. At first I was really dismissive of the Avalanche and Cryo Ammo. I didn't pump any points into Cryo Ammo and never brought the Avalanche with me. "It doesn't work on protected enemies?" I thought. "LAME!"

Then on my second run-through with my soldier, I specced into Squad Cryo, thanks to reading advice on these forums, and started using the Avalanche, thanks to AverageGatsby's Engineer videos, and it was glorious.

Well, one gotta be fair and admit that Cryo Blast and Cryo-Ammo do indeed only set in effect if the enemy is unprotected and seeing how Squadmates don't really effectively deal with defences themselves unless you pet them like your overly sick child and tell them what to do every single time, they render the Cryo Ammo into nothing more than a nice side-effect whilst you blast away the bad guys (Incisor made things better though!).

The thing with the Avalanche is, that after one or two shots, most defences are gone anyway with only the toughest foes withstanding more hits.

Mr Freeze would say: "Cool huh!"

The main thing I like about the avalanche is its rate of fire. Despite its absurd damage multiplier vs shields and armor it still seems to do a lot less than the arc projector per shot but I can shoot it a lot for every one shot of the projector. Though I find it a pain to aim against any enemies that aren't ground bound. So I normally roll with the projector until I get the cain.

I'm actually on a run with a Power Armored Sentinel w/ Stasis, might go Raider when my level is high enough, plus the Avalanche. :)
Husks beware , and when Harby comes along, Kasumi's Flashbang for the win!
