This. I'm honestly not sure if I could have beaten the Repear Core event without the Arc Projector. Surrounded by 20 husks my Heavy Warp just wasn't cutting it lol.Firesteel7 wrote...
I also like the Blackstorm and Arc Projector, but their charge times and projectile speeds are somewhat of a liability, but nothing is quite as funny to see as a large group of husks being shocked to death or flying around a black hole.

Arc Projector is my favorite. Idk why but i seem to like using it more than any other HW

I agree with Rive Caedo, even though I have beaten the part with the Reaper Core a number of times now without the Arc Projector, this thing almost turned it to a walk in the park

As this seems to be one of the most popular threads on this subject, I'd like to add a poll to this topic, as it doesn't seem to have one yet. (In fact, none of the top 150 most-voted polls here are about Heavy Weapons).
Vote here.
I'm actually not asking what your favorite
is, but rather which you use the most. If you love the Cain but
never use it, that's not what I'm asking.
Seems like the Collector Particle Beam will come out on top, though the Blackstorm seems very popular also.
Myself, I find I'm always using the Arc Projector. Nothing else seems to do as well at taking down big nasties on Hardcore/Insanity (e.g., YMIR mechs) as it does. However, in reading through this thread, I'm thinking I might need to give the CPB another whirl on a Collector-heavy mission.

Arc projector- Best for me because of the target range and weapon overheat
Cain- Useful for fewer missions than I've expected, but still cool.
Blackstom- Sends out a massive singularity, nuff said.
Grenade launcher- Good all rounder.
The other HW are meant to be a side weapon imo. They aren't really efficient in terms of range, damage and power cell usage, but still can be fun.

The Blackstorm was a limited edition heavy weapon whereas everyone can have the Arc Projector. If the Cain doesn't win that poll, I'm betting it's the Arc Projector. Before the Arc Projector, I was a fan of the Avalanche for multi-enemy destruction. For a strike against a single foe, there was a period of time that I thought the Collector Particle Beam was where it was at. But you know... I play an Infiltrator. I have the Widow. It is its own heavy weapon.

avalanche used most except iff (Cain). Saw averagegatsby video on collector trap mission with engineer - now always use avalanche on that part (insanity), also good on horizon. Will try flamethrower on some other missions after reading this thread, thanks.

I forgot about that Flamethrower. I did use that on Mordin's loyalty mission once and it worked like a charm.

I've pretty much always stuck exclusively with the avalanche. I don't use heavy weapons very much but it's huge aoe, ridiculous rate of fire, great damage against defenses, and huge freeze duration (making attacks do 2x damage) make it great to pull out when you're in a pinch.
I pretty much only use the cain on praetorians to save some time, but it is useful at times.

I need to see how it works against the colossus with a Vanguard. Should give more DPS than any shotgun, right? No reloading and stuff...

The Arc Projector and Blackstorm are cheap IMO. They are way too overpowered.

Thus far, in 2 1/2 playthroughs, I've never used either the Avalanche or the Firestorm. I use the Cain seldom because of the charge up time, but when I've needed a massive wallop, it has delivered. I use the Collector Particle Beam most often; it's useful for many situations.
I didn't preorder, so I don't have the Blackstorm.

Just tried the Avalanche for the first time. Interesting weapon. Can certainly blow through a ton of ammo with it real quick, and when the smoke--erm, frost--clears, it's kinda hard to tell if you just totally went overboard.
Fortunately, I've hacked Coalesced.ini to allow Reload to replenish the spare ammo on all of my weapons, so I don't really run myself dry unless I actually want to. Without that, though, I'm not sure I could say the Avalanche would be worth it for stripping defenses off enemies when the Arc Projector seems to be a little more efficient at that. And on Insanity, it's hard to get the Avalanche to fulfill its raison d'etre of freezing enemies...
Jury's still out for me on this one. But, after reading this thread, I'm definitely gonna keep testing it to see how it works out.

I have to agree the Arc Projector is overpowered. It's just so damn nice... But before the Arc Projector, I used the Avalanche liberally with my Vanguard. Freeze. Charge. 's nice!
For the most part, I tend to avoid Heavy Weapons. This is easier to do when I'm playing an Infiltrator with a Widow as well. I know some Heavy Weapons would make certain fights go a lot faster (Thresher Maw, Praetorians), but I guess I take a certain amount of pride in taking down a Praetorian with an SMG. I did take the Cain to the Thresher Maw on my last playthrough because I was playing an Engineer. I don't that same level of pride taking down the Thresher Maw with an SMG, I'd just rather get it over with.

I tend to just keep the grenade launcher. good all rounder, looks ok on my back - which is generall where my heavy weapons stay.
I mix it up with a firestorm on my vanguard, or the blackstorm with my adept. you all know double singularities win.

Arc Projector by a country mile. Powerful, practical and packs Overload's side effects into a single, devastating AoE shot.
It also annihilates Shields, so my Adept never puts it down.
Add to the fact it looks and sounds cool, and it's an easy choice. District 9 hardware, improved.

Only one target at a time. I have Widow to do that.
zapping whole groups never got old.

The one in district 9 was good for close quarters and long range kills...
But you're right. The Arc projector is great for taking out clusters of shielded enemies.
That's the only heavy weapon I use (except for one shot with the Cain to the Terminator)

I really gave the Firestorm a shot on my Vanguard. Kinda thought combining it with a charge would make it worthwhile. Not really. Took forever to kill a Blue Suns Merc with it. Yeah, he couldn't really fight back while I was doing it, but his allies could. Maybe it's because I'm on Insanity, but I'm still not diggin' it.
