I really gave the Firestorm a shot on my Vanguard. Kinda thought combining it with a charge would make it worthwhile. Not really. Took forever to kill a Blue Suns Merc with it. Yeah, he couldn't really fight back while I was doing it, but his allies could. Maybe it's because I'm on Insanity, but I'm still not diggin' it.

The problem with the firestorm is that it's got some pretty spectacular disadvantages (no range, low damage) with some decidely mediocre bonus (stops regen, yay!). It doesn't even benefit from the upgrades all that much as ammo capacity is it's only real advantage in the first place.

Compare that to packing Aoe Overload and a +400 damage per shot from the Arc Projector, and you have to question what the point is.

Grenade launcher and Cain. GL is the better general purpose weapon, great against mobs of husks, and the Cain is just a perfect way to end really tough battles almost instantly. Pretty any time I got multiple Ymirs, or a boss fight, I either used the Cain or wished that I had brought it with me. All the rest of the time I either didn't want a heavy weapon at all, or I wanted the AoE firepower of the grenade launcher.

The Particle Beam was my favorite... took down those Praetorians with ease.

It's all about the arc projector. Makes certain missions (*coughKasumiLoyaltycough*) a breeze.

The amount of damage it does to Hock 'the fookin' Prawn' shields in his gunship on Normal is nothing short of hilarious. I almost don't even need Kasumi to do her thing :D

My favourites are Firestorm, Arc Projector and Cain

1) I use Firestorm against the Oculus! For me the fight boils down to peek-a-boo over the Hold's ?turbine? obstacles and everthing at short range.

2) Arc Projector saw use in Legion's Loyalty and at the end of Collector Vents

3) Cain for the Scion + 1st wave of Husk at the last stop point for Long Walk, and of course for nuking the Reaper Larvae.

Y'know, I noticed that during the Collector Station mission, you start with max Heavy Weapon ammo for each of the 3 legs. Once I realised that, there was no point in conserving Heavy Weapon ammo in the last mission leading to the Collector Station (typically Legion's Loyalty mission), so I go trigger happy with the Arc Projector on the Geth Heretics.

I love the Avalanche because I find it fun watching a group of Husks freeze and just shatter like glass. Plus it's my favorite anti-Harbinger weapon.

Flamethrower isn't even fun with a vanguard :/

Arc Projector is absolutely love.

Cain is fun when you have the 5/6 ammo upgrades so that guarantees one cain shot per mission because heavy ammo reloads every mission when you have 5 or + upgrades

I'm very partial to the Cain. I also have recently taken a shine to the Arc Projector. I don't use heavy weapons often because I feel that they're meant to be the BFG-9000 of this game; that is, used only sparingly to hasten victories against extremely powerful foes. If I'm not going to use my heavy weapon often, it might as well be rather game-breaking when I do. The Cain is certainly that.

The Cain is a Boss-killer. Period.

Other than it, my favourite is the Arc Projector. 2 or 3 shots of it kills or greatly weakens any entire squad of enemies. Great when a group of them enters your room. You can fry them before they've a chance of firing a single shot.

I've pretty much always stuck exclusively with the avalanche. I don't use heavy weapons very much but it's huge aoe, ridiculous rate of fire, great damage against defenses, and huge freeze duration (making attacks do 2x damage) make it great to pull out when you're in a pinch.

*snip*

This, plus the beautiful freezing effect.

Arc projector is very good at what it does, but I don't find it satisfying to use.
Cain, well the novelty wore off a long time ago. It's fun though.
Particle beam is also very effective. Just a little boring.
I haven't used the firestorm enough to have an opinion of it. All I know is it exists.
Missile launcher is actually quite fun, same with the grenade launcher. But overall, they're somewhere in the middle.

I'd love the blackstorm to be released in some DLC in the future, it looks like a lot of fun.

Right now though, its avalanche all the time (I only use heavy weapons on engineer and sentinel anyway).

I like the ML 77 missile launcher, it might not be the most pretty or powerful weapon but its seeking missiles makes it reliable enough.

I prefer the Collector Particle Beam for aesthetics and all-around versatility, although the Cain definitely has its uses against super-bosses like the Thresher Maw or the final boss. I also really, really like the Blackstorm. There's something just fundamentally satisfying about seeing enemies get sucked in by the singularity and then get flung apart by the end explosion.

the cain on the reaper core- equip it just when you get the IFF and when legion opens the door its auto equipped and the core is open to fire and husks are next to legion corpse, one shot on insanity and it was done.

on a side note because those husks aren't killed by you one of your sqadmates will be attacked repeatedly by the husk while he was speaking about what to do with legion and it was pretty funny how he just ignored it along with shepard lol (doesnt do anything wierd with the game just a funny glitch)

Thus far, in 2 1/2 playthroughs, I've never used either the Avalanche or the Firestorm. I use the Cain seldom because of the charge up time, but when I've needed a massive wallop, it has delivered. I use the Collector Particle Beam most often; it's useful for many situations.

I didn't preorder, so I don't have the Blackstorm.

Since I wrote this, I've tried the Avalanche and it's become my favorite heavy weapon, totally replacing the Collector Particle Beam in my eyes.  It tears through defenses much faster than the CPB, and is great against husks!

I've also tried the Firestorm, and it's pretty much at the bottom of my list.

The Cain is still very good in certain situations, like against the final boss, where you need a big wallop, fast.

Grenade launcher and Missile Launcher have a fond place in my heart, especially because of the latter. It just doesn't get enough love. I like it for the entirely wrong reasons, because it's the canon heavy weapon and the missile streaks are blue (!), but I like it nonetheless.

Easily ranking first: Arc Projector, wonderful distance, tears shields and armor decently, stuns organics and is beautifully designed.

Grenade launcher has excellent rapid fire and damage, reliable accuracy. All in all a balanced weapon.

Collector Particle Beam, perfect for long distance, precise.

Missile Launcher: may sound like a Pringles' can when Shepard's pulling it out, but it takes care of enemies around cover. Ends Praetorian fights with much less fuss.

Cain: Only time I found a use was on Insanity for the Reaper's Core. Saved a lot of grief, but too darn long for it to fire while enemies dodge it. Have not the patience to master it.

Firestorm: redundant. (Anyone feel a little nervous using it? I remember all the times of using Overload on pyro vorcha)

Not so much nervous. More like out of place - it's the one weapon in the entire game where, no matter what the situation, if you've wielding it, you know you could be wielding something better suited to the situation.

Arc projector is usefull for non-boss combat, the chain lightning really destroys hordes of enemies. The cain is usefull in 6 some fights in the game, allowing you to finish them in 5 secs instead of 5+ mins.

I do think that nowadays the GL is being looked down upon, people often don't use it and directly go with the Arc.
