personally made it though insanity with only the firestorm. Really love it on husk and verren that fast and to lock on to. Cain useful as a problem solver. CPB i found to be really slow at killing and rocket launcher takes all its ammo on a single YMIR

Arc projector is by far my favorite. It does a good job of stripping enemies of their defenses quickly if I'm getting overrun. I've developed an enjoyment of equipping it and not using any guns through the whole game except to "arc project" my way out of a pinch here and there (don't play as soldier much obviously). Plus I love the design of the Arc projector too, it just looks so cool.

Sometimes I take the grenade launcher if I know I'm gonna need it. Adept need help taking out those three YMIRs on Aria's mission.

Not a big fan of the Cain, 1 hit killing my way out a sticky situation is just not as fun to me as figuring out how to win tactically, and Arc projector is usually the only boost I need. Can't argue the prettiness of the Cain explosion though. :D

The other heavies I don't usually bother with, though I sometimes use the Collector particle beam when wearing my collector armor, just because.

Arc rojector does monstrous damage to unarmored or shielded/synthetics enemies.

The missile launcher has a nasty tendency to target a Blue Suns Trooper rather than the YMIR Mech that's about to rip you apart.

While the M-900 'Crab Melter' Cain is my go-to Praetorian breaker, I think I've been fairly open about my unhealthily co-dependent relationship with the Arc Projector.

As far as the one I use least? I've yet to give the Avalanche or Blackstorm much of a try thanks to my love of the Arc Projector, but I'd have to say the M-77. Completely unpredictable 'smart' targeting + not enough explosive power to blow my nose = collecting dust in the Armory.

And an edit addendum: The grenade launcher does 95% of everything the M-77 does with more damage. I've spent a lot of time arcing grenades anyway.

My favorite is either the collector beam or rocket launcher. I use the Arc Projector for crowds and when I'm expecting synthetics. The Firestorm is hilarious against husks.
The worst is by far the Avalanche. It looked so much fun too!

One fun thing I've discovered the arc projector: it stuns robots. I was doing Garrus' loyalty mission just now with my engineer, and noticed it was stunning the YMIR mechs. Very handy.

And it detonates pyros (on health).

It detonates pyros with protection too; no need to strip armor or shields first :D

3:14 AverageGatsby freezes all the collectors on the first platform using the avalanche.  It is great for that mission.  Avalanche and Arc Projector are my favorites, avalanche on collector missions.

I actually like the Avalanche now that I've sat down and really put it to use. Killing YMIR Mechs is much easier now that I have it.

Best Heavy Weapon: The Arc Projector

Worst Heavy Weapon: Firestorm/Second place Cain. Cain is very situation specific.

My favourite heavy weapon has to be the Arc Projector. Mainly because it reminds me of the gun that Mech has off District 9.

Favorite: Arc Projector. I never gave it a second thought until I decided to bring it with me on Overlord. What fun.

Least: Missile Launcher. Last run-through, it came out twice. Once during Jack's recruitment mission, when the targeted computer decided some random guard needed ordinance instead of the YMIR I was aiming at. Second time, the gunship during Samara's recruitment kind of flew by the missiles; I'm sure those are headed for Yankee Stadium or something as we speak.

Early game I like the Arc projector, I usually play an adept and I hate shields. Once I have a decent amount of weapon upgrades only the cain has a noticeable DPS spike. Heck outside the cain I usually drop shields and protection faster without heavy weapons than with it once I am upgraded.

Haven't read the enitre thread but I saw a lot of avalanche hate on the first page. Try using it against a praetorian or YMIR, and fan the trigger like you would with the mattock.

It absolutely rips defenses apart.

I think the general consensus is that the M77 sucks donkey balls. The rest of the weapons have at least some sort use.

Anybody still doubting that the Cain is a life-saver? :D

Everyone agrees that the Missile Launcher sucks, but I enjoyed playing with it on my first run-through.

Why? I used it in rooms with high ceilings. If you shoot the M-77 up high, it smacks your closest target for decent damage and bypasses cover. Good for killing Mooks when bored.

Yes, but the grenade launcher also shoots over cover, does more damage, and targets the enemy you're aiming at.
