Most games where I can customize characters, I create them with the same name and generally a vaguely similar appearance as on another game.  They sort of become my trademark characters.  I'm not sure if I'll bring many if any of them over to DA:O or not, but it seems like it might be fun.

For instance, one character I make for giggles is the most prettyboy type of guy I can make.  I'm not a fan of prettyboys, but his name is part of the fun in this case (because it's a prettyboy kind of name).  In my mind, his personality is surprisingly masculine, and he's actually become more aggressive to counter people's reaction to his apparently girly nature.  He tends to be a warrior type, and when possible I equip him with spears or two-handed swords.  I'm sure when people see him, they think I'm either a gay guy or a fangirl of prettyboys.  In truth I'm just giggling over him because he's a prettyboy parody of prettyboys.

So are there any characters that you tend to reuse or reinvent, for whatever reason?  Or am I just the only nut who does this?

I almost always make a even-minded, wise, middle aged half-elf or human woman who runs on the True Neutral path, usually a Druid or a Cleric if no druid is availiable... I actually have not done that at all this time, my mind is just bursting with new personalities and ideas and character looks I haven't even realized it until just now, hah. Might have to do that sometime.

I actually do normally do this, but DA is an exception. This is the first game that has inspired me to make a dwarf, so I didn't reuse my normally human character.

I'm kind of like that too--I might reuse parts of character personalities, but for the most part, DA seems like a place to try new things. Some of my usuals just won't mesh. Others, like the character Moll's loosely based on, might mesh all too well (but Moll is significantly different backgroundwise).

I get pretty nutty about my toons. They are usually modeled on middle-eastern people. If I can make a Cleopatra looking female I'm in heaven. Toons get Egyptian/middle-eastern/sanskrit names. Sometimes I'll deviate, but not often.

I think I have a couple character personality archetypes that I fill in my roles, from game to game, but I don't think I ever truly am "the same ol' same ol'" with my creations. As in, I always wind up with 1 manipulative femme fatale, 1 goofy but heart-of-gold dude, 1 pompous egomaniac magess... Names, traits, faces, backstories, reactions to choices/people in-game change, of course. But some of those archetypes stick with me.

I have a couple of characters that I use very often. They were created for Dungeons & Dragons. Then I 'transfered' them to computer games such as Baldurs Gate, Neverwiner Nights, Icewind Dale and so forth. I ended up using them in every RPG I played, and needless to say, I have a huge sentiment for them. It's a lot of fun adapting them to different game worlds and storylines.

I usually do this as well, and my first character will be the same as the one I've used in other games.

DA is the first game that's inspired me to make a dwarf, so my second (dwarven noble) char will break the trend.

The dwarves are pretty awesome here. I need to make a couple or ten.

I sometimes like to reuse some traits for my characters, and I can imagine a lot of them do fit in the same box. Usually my characters are, "chaotic good" and like to be sarcastic but compassionate. For both NWN and NWN2 I used the same character names and looks, but otherwise I like to keep a bit of shuffling in my creations. I actually enjoyed having my FemShep be more of a bad ass than a goody goody. Probably was because of Hale's ultra cool voice.

First characters in games like this for me are always female rogues.. I'm not really sure why.. For a long time I would give her the name Adelaide. In BG 1-2 and IWD 1-2 I used that name and Annah's voice from Planescape. In Icewind Dale 2 I created a large dumb barbarian half orc named Vermillion Tooth... I've used that name in other games quite a bit..

I came up with the name Vyvex thorne for Morrowind and i've been using it as my internet identity for about 6 years now. If you google vyvexthorne it's just 12 pages of my internet idiocy.

I always have a plucky rogue and a mage who is completely absorbed in her magic (book-worm) in every game I play that lets you do so. Both elven females, because I love elves, and I usually play women characters.

I don't really have characters that I always use (well, maybe one or two =p), but I do have names that I always use. It's so hard to come up with new ones! I've actually resorted to using Inuit from time to time…

My characters come in 3 flavors before they start being more and more random. Female warrior, some sort of archer, and then the squishy caster. This dwarf was one of the random ones but he is awesome and I might keep him for later.

Gee, I wonder who inspired you to make characters like that. ;) Good role model though, if you ask me.

I don't like to reuse characters, generally; once I make them for something specific, they are for that purpose and that purpose alone in my mind. There are the occasional exceptions, but instead of carrying them over into other games, I carry them over into my stories/comics as cameos or minor characters.

I typically use and reuse Aarik Risktaker, aka Aarik `Xytaris, for my pretty elf mage type of character. He's always a smartass, wholly concerned with power for power's sake, and more than happy to let someone else do the heavy lifting jobs. From AD&D to EQ to so many MMOs I can't name them all, a number of single-player RPGs, etc.

I also enjoy using Tear and Tia Sie'vis, elven twins who were the focus of a short story I wrote up some ten years ago. They stuck on me. They'll probably wind up a Dalish Elf and a City Elf respectively in DA:O. In fact, Tia's already a City Elf. I should go make her brother, once I'm happy with her face.

Other than that, I tend to throw together names that fit the character I'm working toward.

I always start off with two characters that have been with me since my first PnP roleplaying session. One is a lawful good warrior (could be paladin in some settings) and the other one is a neutral wizard with some sort of tendencies to the dark side. Both are males and i always make the the same when it comes to appearance.

I will surely translate those two on to DOA and I cant wait to see how the lawful good kind of behaviour translates into this world that seems like will be filled with grey decisions. Thats probably one of the most appealing things for me.

I usually like characters that can take a lot of punishment, even better If I can keep damage off party members through taunts, shields, or crowd control of some sort. I also like giving buffs to party members. So I'm often a sword and board warrior or paladin in most fantasy games.

I do this a lot. I nearly always play the closest thing to a wizard a game offers first up, usually called Athiator, and generally an elf or some other mystic or odd race. I don't generally make a lot of effort to make the appearance match though. Since I normally prefer to play my first time through as someone pretty close to myself in attitude I don't think it's that unusual that I have a consistent name for the character though.

Usually I try to vary and to roleplay very different characters in different RPG, I don't have one character I design and name for all games. It tends to bore me,
But I have to admit that I usually have ONE character for each game, and then later on in a new playthrough of the same game  I just replay this character, maybe with a different path, but the same character with the same class, stats, name, and look.

One of my favourite Pcs was my assassin Arame Tiquor whom I created for TES:Oblivion. A neurotic, mentally unstable, paranoid Breton vampire. Roleplaying him was just too much fun. Everytime he fought or killed he immediately changed armor and weapons, everytime it rained, he panicky searched for shelter, he NEVER traveled on foot and avoided caves and ruins as best as he could.... *chuckles* I should replay Oblivion again with him, it was just too funny.
But I also loved "my" version of Shepard in ME, or one of my first PCs, my NWN2 Character, the half-drow spirit shaman Terenith Ashald.

Anyway, I usually tend to have one character because previous games often didn't offer me any difference no matter which path I chose. Yes... maybe a bit different questline, but with the same outcome: Killing, looting, a few points on the good or bad side.
Also with every new year there is less time to play games for me, because my education progresses... so it is much easier to jump into the game with a character whose class and talents I'm familiar with, instead of crafting a new face which takes more time and more concentration.

Hopefully DA:O encourages me to create multiple unique characters and offers good and creative consequences for different choices... otherwise I will stick with my City Elf Rogue again...

I never re-use names or re-create appearances, though my preferences (darker hair, tanned skin, angular or "strong" features instead of girly/pretty), can lead to some characters looking at tad similar. If I notice that, I try to fiddle with the new one a bit for more variety.

That said I have no interest in being "evil" and very little in being "morally grey" so most of my gals tend to be similar in personality: helpful, straightforward, loyal, protective, serious-minded but not uptight. I also like to play characters who are close to nature. So overall my characters are often draw from a fluid mix of paladin-druid-Jedi style characteristics. :P But not all: sometimes I enjoy the cheerful outgoing types, or especially the treehugger with a ruthless and savage bent types, too.

Dragon Age is one of the few games I actually plan to replay, which I otherwise (almost) never do -- the origins and lore are just too inspiring! I have four distinct characters planned, and am curious to see how they will work out. In computer games, only the "good" path generally feels right to me since the "neutral" is too mercenary and the "evil" is often plain sociopathic, over-the-top and immersion-killing. If Bioware has improved the variety of dialog options this time around to make less unappealing to play anything but the Paragon of Fluffy Goodness™, maybe I'll manage to pull off a more ruthless person in a CRPG for once.

I normally use 2 different characters. A redheaded halfling rogue named Frum Maynard. Kind of hard this game. But he is the typical everything for the money chap with a slippery tounge. He will be reused as a noble dwarf during my second playthrough to a lesser extent.

My other char is your run of the mill sociopath mage/sorcerer. My first in this game too.
