In ME1 we learned that the geth drove the quarians from their home world after the quarians tried to destroy the geth once they knew that the their cheap labor force haa become sentient and capable of creative and independent thought. The geth didn't wipe the quarians out, although the get killed billions of quarians. Instead the geth isolated themselves from the rest of the galaxy in the systems beyond the Perseus Veil. They didn't attack anyone for 200 to 300 years (the game/codex is vague about that). The geth that you meet in ME1 worship the reapers. You can learn from Legion that the evil geth are called heretics and that Sovereign might have imposed their religion on them. Much like indoctrination.
In ME2 you have two options:
  • Force the heretics to join the non-evil geth.
  • Destroy the heretics.
Legion leaves the choice to you.

There is something odd going on with Legion's name. In ME1 Sovereign tells you: "We are Legion". Is that a mistake (i.e. a reference to the same bible text ("My name is Legion: for we are many", the explanation of Legion's name, but misquoted) or are all geth (hidden) heretics anyway? Or maybe BioWare was just trying to confuse us?

What did you do, why, and did Legion's name made a difference in that choice?

My answer: I converted the heretics. I think that the heretics were dreamed up later by BioWare and the reference to Legion in ME1 was an accident. However, maybe BioWare can use it in ME3. Who knows? No heretics to fight in ME3 just doesn't sound right.

"We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world. You cannot escape your doom." - Sovereign.

Legion was picked from EDI because it suited his unti very well. Legion is like the ambassador for the Geth. Anyways I rewrote them, but I have a bad feeling it will kick us in the ass in ME3...

Yes... I know that EDI gave him the name. It still is curious, though. ;)

Legion says that rewriting the Geth will make them accept the truth of the 'pure geth'. Aside from larger numbers I can't see why they SHOULD be a problem. I assumed it would benefit because there would be more geth to fight the Reapers in ME3. Plus, Legion wouldn't think of you as some genocidist.

Back in tthe old forums I thought that all geth couldn't be evil, just for the simple reason that they were sentient and capable of creative and independent thought. Still, a ME3 without geth seems odd.

As in both Nazara and EDI using the reference form an ancient human book, called The Bible?

When speaking to humans on top of that?

You are right, it makes no sense. They are all reapers for sure!

I re-wrote because of Daro'Xen's e-mail. I also let Legion transmit the Alarei-data and make up with Tali later if the conflict arises. I don't like the Quarians at all, and I wanted to give the Geth the best possible chance to defend themselves.

When Sovereign said "We are legion", he was simply stating a fact.

–adjective

6.very great in number

It was clearly being used as an adjective (to use it in its primary use as a noun, it would have to be "we are a legion"). Thus when we are told that the Reapers are legion, it is meant literally. Their numbers are incredibly.

------------------------------------------

How many?

Ten thousand strong at least.

Ten thousand?!

It is an army bred for a single purpose, to destroy the world of men.

Let them come!

I am still not convinced, Legion has a similar explanation for the name "Sovereign". The reaper just stated "I am sovereign" and didn't intend "Sovereign" to be a name. So the reverse in the case of  "We are Legion" wouldn't be strange either.

No, Sovereign was a name given to Nazara by Saren. Sovereign merely used that title when addressing lesser beings from then on.
