Irish...IRISH?!?!

Scotty, as in scotish

Yes, Engineer O'Donnelly is Irish and Scotty is Scottish. But the accents are not very different. Im sorry if your Irish or Scottish and that offends you, but its true.

Yes, O'Donnelly sounds completely Irish. And Irish people also love haggis.
Are you special?

Letting all those Star Trek fans in on a little secret: George Takei who is the original Sulu, is Japanese. John Cho, the new Sulu, is Korean. Not a big deal.

Deny it all you want, O'Donnelly was an homage to Scotty.

It's engineer Donnolly, not O Donnelly, and he is SUPPOSED to be Scottish. However actually being Scottish, I do have to say I was fairly disappointed with what sounded a fair amount like an american, or some other nationality's attempt at a Scottish accent. It just seemed too forced, even for the strongest Scottish accent I know...

Tali can't watch with that bucket on her head... :P

Sure she can, it adds hi-def and recording features.

I agree, I live in Scotland (though am not native English speaker myself), and it doesn't sound exactly like the real thing. I can't say what's wrong with it though.

And it's engineer Donnelly, not Donnolly.

They deny it because they fear getting sued for plagiarism if they admit it.
They problably wouldn't, but EA and Zenimax both have nasty lawyers and they no doubt tell the devs "DENY it or else."

They can not be sued by being influenced by Scotty but if they were using the catch phrase lines like beam me up scotty then they could. There is no need for them to fake deny.

There's no need from our perspective, but lawyers don't see things from our human perspective. Directly admitting reference to another fictional character is like commiting seppuku in their eyes.

In the Star Wars spoof of the Apprentice the emperor says that the only thing more evil then the Sith are copyright lawyers.

You're right, do apologise for the mistake :) Not a native speaker? Ha, you write better english than half of the native population! Anyways, I dunno...it honestly comes across as someone trying too hard to sound typically Scottish. Like when he says "what can I do for you commander?" it's like he's exaggerating EVERY word to sound as obviously Scottish as possible. Sort of like he's physically trying to sound Scottish, as opposed to naturally doing it effortlessly. Maybe they couldn't find a good enough natural Scottish VA, so settled for someone with a semi-decent Scottish accent, and decent voice-acting skills?
