1.a. Mass Effect 2b. Physical diskc. Version Information: MassEffect2.exe: v1.00
2.a. Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00GHz/ Clock Speed: 1991 MHz/ RAM: 2.74 GB Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G/ VRAM: 256 MB/ Driver Version: 195.62 Sound Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)/ Driver Version: 6.0.1.5730
b. OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium  Service Pack 3 (6.1.7600) DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0  (Mar2009) or later
3. After having installed the game the first time, I started the Mass Effect 2 Launcher,  clicked Config and waited for the utillity to scan my system and then I saved the settings (everything was  set to default). Then I clicked Play, and it seemed like it was going fine for around 3-4 seconds.  The cursour was showing a loading icon, but then quickly returned to normal and nothing happended.  I treied several times with different settings and even starting the game manually by executing  MassEffect2.exe, the same thing happens every time. Then I tried reinstalling, I worked that it but only  for like 30 minutes, then the game crashed and now I am unable to start the game again.  There is NO error message so I can't determine the nature of the error/bug.

AFAIK, a laptop with only a 9400 in it is going to choke on a game such as this one, no matter what. The desktop version of a 9400 is technically above the (Pie in the Sky daydream) Geforce minimum, but both that minimum and the 9400 are just jokes in today's graphics world.

Well, it did work for 30 minutes, flawlessly on the highest graphic level, and it has had NO problems with any other resent game, so I wouldn't think that my graphics card was the problem.

Maybe you need to register the game first in order to get it to work.

That's not it. The card isn't junk, not really, but he's trying to treat it as if he paid more than pocket change for it. If isn't possible to run something that cheap and terrible at "High Setiings", not at all.

I fixed the problem, not sure how, but it worked. And for the record Gorath Alpha, I am running it on the maximum settings and it's running very smooth, so I suggest you start getting your facts straight before you conclude. And why are you refering to me as if I was a different person? You do seem lost with that latest post.

Wake up, smell the coffee, and get rid of that nasty little POS excuse for a video card you are exaggerating so excessively about, right through your hat.  It's a nothing card, made for nothing usage.  Even nVIDIA says so.

            Looking at today's sub-minimums

I was curious about how the Geforce 9400 GT related to the 7600 GT and 8600 GT, both of which were full-power Mainline Gaming parts.  The 9400 is just the prior year's 8500 GT, although the thinner die wafer increases its efficiency and reduces its heat signature, so I have also included the 9500 GT, which has the same relationship to another 8n00 card, the 8600 GT, and I threw in the 7800 GS for good measure.

Performance         8500    9400     7600    8600     9500     7800
Number         500     400     600     600    500     800

Suffix Ltrs         GT    GT     GT     GT     GT     GS

Memory         12.8     12.8     22.4     22.4     25.6     32
Bandwidth

Shader        n/a     n/a     6720     n/a     n/a     6000
Operations

Gflops         0    67.2    n/a     113    134     n/a

Pixel            3600    4400     4480     4320     4400     6000
Fill Rate

Texture         3600     4400     6720     8640     8800     6000
Fill Rate

Vertex         n/a     n/a     700     n/a     n/a     562
Operations

It's not total crap, just almost, and how big of a stakes you want to go for that I don't know a thousand times more about computers and video catds than you do?

Well, I never said it was high end.... it came on the laptop i bought last summer... but I was more refering to the fact that you stated that it would choke on a game like Mass Effect 2. It acually runs smoothly, so i don't really care for statistics, if you haven't acually TRIED the card with a game I don't think you should throw comments that not really help. I had a problem with starting a game, so I don't really see why you commented on something like it was a graphics issue.

Ps. this topic can be locked now, I solved my problem.

We are all pleased, of course, that the non-start situation is currently under control, so you can continue the game. Nevertheless, when the game is having to deal with less than suitable hardware,. any substandard, or barely minimum, component has to be suspected as being a factor, and you kept insisting your hardware was running so perfectly as if that wasn't the case at all (did you bother to even LOOK at where nVIDIA itself ranks that particular card you have, practically at the very bottom?) .

This is an issue with either .Net Framework 2.0 or Direct X. You either need .Net Framework 2.0 (which is what my case was) or you need Direct X 9c. And by the way you should look into GPU overclocking.

Anything that is XP or above will have DX9. Vista has DX10 and Windows 7 has DX11. And it's nothing to do with the windows configurations or framework.

What he described is a hardware error or there is a slim chance that it's a faulty game but i'd bet good money on a hardware issue.

I don't think it's possible to overclock an intergrated graphics card and even if it were i wouldn't fancy the cooling's chances on a laptop to hold out with the stress. (i think he is using a laptop correct me if i am wrong but i was sure that version of the 9400 was in laptops)
