Lots of negative threads out there about what ME2 did wrong. I made one or two myself. But there are some things that I love about this game and I think they are a huge improvement over ME1.

In ME1and ME2, you can only have 2 squad members with you, which is fine. But in ME1, on Virmire for example, there were times when I thought, what is everyone else doing that they cant assist the Salarians in this battle. Ashley/Kaiden is the only person I send to help the Salarians? There are 3 other squad members just sitting on the ship waiting to see how it all pans out. This always bugged me and the only explanation I ever got was "well, that would interfere with the choice between Kaiden or Ashley."

In ME2, during the last battle we get to see everyone participate in the mission and get to assign tasks depending on their qualifications. I loved this and I really hope we see more missions like this in ME3.

What was your favorite improvement in ME2. And please there are plenty of other threads if you have something negative to say.

ME2s combat. It was awesome compared to ME1. Much faster paced and "dangerous" feeling. It's not often I die in games when playing on "Normal" difficulty, but I did with ME2 before I realised I couldn't just Rambo every situation like I did on ME1.

There were many great improvements, but for me probably the single biggest one was removal of the immunity ability, for both sides. That one ability alone put a big dent in the fun factor of combat in the first game.

glasgoo21, there is no inventory in ME2. And specifically what armor are you referring to?

IMO the the most important and obvious improvement is the combat system as a whole.

Let's say the inventory is minimalistic., limited change in weaponry. The armor choice you have in ME1, ME2, you run around with the same armor troughout the game , it just is customizable, way better

This took the humor to an entirely new level. So many funny situations in ME 2. Side quests were a HUGE step up as well. They all had unique areas specifically designed for that one mission.

I love how they did the armor in ME2. ME1 had a variety of armor but at lvl 60, I thought the only ones worth using were the Colossus and Predator Armors.

Customizable N7 armor is awesome.

Hmm, would it be simplified inventory? Enhanced graphics? Improved combat mechanism? More expressive dialogue and cut scenes and interrupts?

Nah. It's not those, it's the fish tank. Looking forward to improving my tank in ME3.

The brilliant combat and streamlining of the RPG elements like skill trees, inventory, weapon and armour customization, research etc.

I really like the tone of the story. It has gotten increasingly darker.

The fact that switching between squad members is easy and advisable. In ME1 you picked a party member and kept that person all the way until you unlocked the achievement. Depending on what you will be going up against in each mission in ME2 you can refine your team much more easily with no problem. There is no weak party member either.

I'd say the biggest improvements were the combat and the side missions.

Interrupts. They're just extra dialogue choices in a clever disguise, but man are they awesome.

I was worried in ME1, but Bioware heard my prayers; in ME2, I KNOW the Normandy's guns are well-calibrated.

Combat.  Pretty much the only improvement other than graphics related issues.

Biggest improvement was the combat system. Side missions are all unique and fun, now they just need to be more rewarding. Upgrading weapons and weapons with unique properties I found to be a much more enjoyable system than in ME1 same goes for the armors which are all balanced.

I like the combat system and how I [theoretically] have better control over where I place my team.

Lack of texture popping. The combat in general. The lack of false choices where every option has Shepard say the same damn thing. It was great that your choices affected the performance of the ship and crew during the endgame. The lack of the Mako and it's rubber ball physics. The fact that side missions don't all take place in one of the same four buildings. The interrupts were consistently great.

There are probably more, but I can't be arsed right now.
