My processor was overcloked and I had the same problem. When I put my process N.O.S. mode in the bios off (Overklocking mode in ASUS Motherboards) the problem disappeared.

I've updated my ati drivers.

By the way, there is a problem with the driver 5.11 of Realtek. The dialogs almost disappear during the cutscenes. I've kept the 5.10 version.

My CPU is not overclocked.

I've tried a NoCD fix. Changed nothing.

Still looking for a solution, but I've tried everything I'm could.

I have a very similar set up to you, DouveZ (Realtek onboard audio, no OC, ATI card) and I have the same problem. I'll fiddle with the settings in everything tonight and post if I find out anything.

I was able to fix the problem! Try updating your BIOS. I updated the BIOS through windows for my ASUS P5Q PRO, then made sure I had the latest video drivers. The computer was a little sluggish the first time I rebooted, but it has been fine ever since.

Be sure to backup your BIOS before changing it!

Hello

I have also this strange issue in every dialogues, not only the cutscenes : some words just disappears, as if you were speeding up during 1 sec.

Which means instead of hearing : "go fetch the big knife"
I hear "go fe--knife" like a bad audio cut.

Any idea ?

Running XP SP3, ATI 4870, X-Fi Titanium...

Most of the game plays fine, incuding 95% of dialog but
I have dialog / cutscene lags too. the sound will play fine, but the video will crawl @<1fps
when it happens for any character for a conversation, that conversation will super lag no matter what choices I pick, companions, or how far back I load the save from.
(and it only seems to happen for main quest stuff .... GRRRR)
The lag is so bad that a 3 line conversation can take over 10 minutes to end. (if it does at all)

my computer specs are good enough to keep an average 30+ fps on highest settings
vista SP1
all drivers, including bios are newest
the harddrive that has dragonage on it is defragged every other day

it happened at the landsmeet on my first playthru and was solved by uninstalling all weapon and equipment DLCs.
second time,@ redcliff...solved by disabling dialog sound and enabled subtitles.
third time, at redcliff again
installing patch 1.2 seemed to fix it for a few days
but it happened again @ the proving fight

I had the same problem for months. I just installed Awakening and it seemed worse than ever. As I was reading through this post I saw that one person said they fixed it when they disabled the overclocking on their machine. That worked for me as well!! Sweet! I've played this game through three times and it always annoyed me that the cutscenes were off. If you have the sound lag problem, take off the overclocking on your CPU and you should be fine! Yay :)
