I don't give a damn about who they could cast. Without a good movie crew and a director who knows the game great and knows what he's doing the movie destined to suck. There's absolutely not a one good video-game adaptation in Hollywood. They'll cheapen up the budget, hire an idiot screenwriter who's gonna screw the story, the producer will ruin because he thinks he know the best etc. In that circumstances even a perfect casting would suck. But if they could have a good crew behind the camera then there would be no worries about bad casting.
This is a big sci-fi franchise in epic sizes. There are two key elements to make this movie (hopefully movie trilogy) good. First of all, Bioware team must have a full control on the movie (script, budget, production, sets, shots, casting, special effects). Any outsider will ruin it. And second, the budget must be big. There's no way to pull this as it should be with a small or medium budget. I don't think any less than $100-150 mil. for the first part.
James Cameron would be a dream director for this project, he's the godfather of sci-fi movies and we all know that that guy never cuts the budget down for making cheap shots. But unfortunately that'll never come true, so someone like his vision needed for director chair.
ME could have a potential to be the next epic movie franchise after SW and LOTR. But we all know that the producers who got the movie rights will make it their way and blow it. While waiting a big epic movie, it could turn out to be another video-game adaptation joke like Wing Commander (Have you seen it? If not then never).
