Do all Companion Mages have to have that same ratty hairstyle?

You have the PC version, you can put whatever face pleases you on Velanna.
That's like saying though that PC players don't need patches because they can use consol commands and mods to fix half the bugs.

recycling textures is so much easier then creating new ones, since with new ones you have to code and test (make sure it works so there is no clipping and such) over and over.

Interesting point of view.
Be satisfied with less, as less is easier to make than more.
Do not demand quality, quality takes effort to create.
I wish my clients would see it that way.

lol Fanboys/girls will do what they do, and demand you to be satisfied with whatever you are given.

Normally I'd agree with you, because I don't really care if Villager #1 has the same haircut as Villager #2 so that stuff doesn't bother me, but the whole point of Morrigan's hair style is that it's unique. So you have another NPC, who's also an apostate mage to boot, with the exact same hair style and it's a little immersion breaking. It's sort of like watching a well-known actor in a movie - the actor is so well-known that you can't think of him as the character, you think of him as the actor.
The devs could have avoided the "OMG VELANNA = MORRIGAN" comparisons simply by putting a different hair style for her.
That being said, melkathi is seriously making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I know.
Thing is, I am not annoyed at people not caring. I am not annoyed at them settling for, what in my opinion is less.
It's the fact that they usualy give you one-liners or at best two-liners that annoys me. Or that they only read one word or sentence and then only comment on that.
"Yes. Well done! You read that word correctly. It indeed says hair! Now let's try that next word. I know it's longer. I know it's difficult. I do have confidence in you. You can read it."

Hair can be the most important aspect of a person's appearance, it can make or break a face.
Yes I take hair very seriously.

It's not hair.
It's the art team doing their job. Or not doing it. If they had Velanna with Wynne's face but completly unique hair, I'd still be disappointed. It is their job to visually set appart from eachother the various characters.
The companions are a very small sub-group of characters, therefor recycling between them is not the same as recycling in the larger group of npcs. It is not a matter of 2 out of 200 npcs sharing a visual trait. It's 2 out of 3 female mage companions.
To avoid that, is not too much to ask of professionals.
Meh, I'm done. It's obvious people not only aren't going to attempt to understand the point I try to make, people can't even be bothered to read the whole post before replying.
What difference does it make, though? There are a multitude of characters with Alistair's hairstyles, and it doesn't affect his characterization at all! There are only so many employees, and I'd much rather that they worked on plot-related items/locations than hair, etc. For everything that gets designed, something else doesn't.
Errant, do read what I type. I don't care if a random npc has the same hair as Alistair. If Anders did though, I would care. Because then it would not be random NPC #23, but 2 out of 2 human male companions with an irreverant sense of humour.
I did read it, which is why I edited my post immediately when I realized that I'd forgotten to say part of what I intended. You just replied to fast to see the changes. You'll have to forgive me, I'm on medication that's making me very fuzzy this week.

You didn't even KNOW Morrigan's hair was "unique" until you saw her bloody video trailer. If you look REAL closely on the stupid cover, you'll see that Morrigan has HER HOOD UP!! OMGEH! They didn't have her hood up in the GAME!! Horrors to be!

Ha, I just noticed that now, he also has an earring.
Edit: now they need someone with Oghren's hairstyle.... other than Oghren himself.

I will try to elaborate why I feel like this, but I understand that this is more a matter of personal sentiments, so I don't expect anyone to agree (except of course the people who thought like me to begin with, if I changed their view, I would have truly done a very poor job
Morrigan and Duncan are probably the two characters that represent DA:O (apart from the cast of the Sacred Ashes trailer maybe), they both had a completely unique look, from armor/outfit to hairstyle. Because Morrigan and Duncan are such unique figures, these two hairstyles belong to them and only them. It's different with the other NPCs (companion or not). Sure Cailan and Zevran have the same hairstyle, and Fergus Cousland and Bann Teagan have the same as well (at least I think they do), but for them it just feels that they are wearing their hair in the same way. If Morrigan's and Duncan's hairstyles would be available for players and various NPCs, it
would have been another matter (but even then I would not have put the
hairstyle from the old apostate mage on the new apostate mage, but that's just me).
With Duncan and Morrigan it's a complete look, one that has been designed specifically (and very well in my opinion) by Bioware's art people. Even though there are better mage outfits to be found in the game, many if not most people will have Morrigan wear her leather-feather outfit til the very end, because it's her look.
Of course both her and Duncan would be still recognizable from the way they talk etc., but their design plays a major role in their uniqueness and in my opinion taking elements that made them unique and putting them on other people, was not a good decision.

It's a budget issue. They can hire artists to create new hairstyles or they can hire coders to create new story. What do you want? Can't have both. I'm sure that instead of producing a new x-pac with story, new characters, new adventures, locations and events, Bioware would be happy to charge $30-$40 for a fashion-pac containing nothing but new hairstyles, textures for outfits, shoes, accessories, and hats (can't forget those!) but introduce absolutely no new game, story or characters. If that's what you want convince them to produce the product. If the market exists it'll be catered for, that's how the system works.
I dont want them to create a new hairtsyle. I want them to use one of the existing ones that they haven't used on a companion.
Just as I wouldn't want the new warrior to have Sten's or Alistair's hair, but would not midn them being bald or having Bann Teagan's hair.
