I am on page 200 of the stolen throne, and Loghain seems like a stand-up guy.

He helps when he does not need to, and I understand his reasoning behind his decisions now.. I do not believe Anora was in danger, either.

Loghains betrayal was EXTREMELY uncharacteristic, he has gone into lost battles before, and it is not like him to abandon one, especially one he is loyal o.

Anybody else feel bad about killing him in all 4 playthroughs? :P

Don't feel bad at all.

He used to be a stand-up guy, though always ruthless. Now he is ruthless and paranoid.

You'll start seeing the paranoia in The Calling.

If you see things like Loghain does - that his first loyalty is to "Ferelden the country" or "Ferelden the idea", then his actions at Ostagar don't really constitute betrayal but an unfortunate means by which he preserved his country. Cailan would have brought the Orlesians in, which was in Loghain's eyes the real betrayal, after all that he and Maric had fought to recover. The Grey Wardens encouraged Cailan's actions by asking for the help of the Orlesian Wardens, so they were likely traitors in his eyes too. Add to that the fact that there were no Wardens in Ferelden until about 25 years before - a number of the senior Wardens were likely Orlesians who had come to Ferelden to help rebuild the order. So I would hardly say that Loghain's actions were uncharacteristic - he just saw things from a different perspective than most everyone else.

Whether my character kills him or not depends on their personalities. My Dalish girl is a great believer in personal redemption and letting people have another chance - she wanted to spare Loghain but allowed Alistair to do what he wished because she believed in him as king. My City Elf was supposed to be no-nonsense off with his head, but was convinced last minute to spare him, losing Alistair to marriage with Anora. (That Zathrian...his story always seems to convince my people that vengeance is not a good thing...). My human noble will let Alistair duel Loghain, as she got to fight Howe. Haven't yet figured out where some of my other play throughs will go.

Had I my way, I would take Loghain and convince Alistair to stay. Seeing as I can't do that, it usually falls to Alistair to do the executing, since I see Loghain as a redeemable man.

technically alistair killed him. imo he betrayed ferelden, maric, cailan, and rowan. i don't feel bad at all. loghain even admitted to his mistakes if you saved him from alistair and wanted to sacrifice himself to the arch demon.

Sad, but his opinions and actions were endangering the survival and advancement of Fereldan, so I had no issue taking him out personally. Powerful personality and should be forever known as a hero, but he needed to die in my games.

Uhm, no. I would have liked the opportunity to behead him myself after what happened to my HNFs family. Beheading was too kind for him, Anora should been next in line in the beheading queue; IMO.

No, I feel badly that a man who served Fereldan well became so twisted by hate as to take actions that allowed the blight to spread across that same country unchecked, and caused the death of his king. One can regret his end while still finding it right and necessary. He did things that were unforgivable even if his heart was in the right place.

I killed him in my first playthrough (I've not the read the books) and felt horrible. It's just brutal, especially when his blood goes all over Anora. Haven't done it since, though I will have to, one more time, to get my Warden Commander ending. I guess I'll let Alistair take care of it for that playthrough.

I really like Loghain when I recruit him and I have a lot of empathy for him. He did some bad things but he does see sense in the end and regrets his actions. Considering I always let Sten out if his cage, recruit Zevran and allow Jowan to redeem himself, I can't deny Loghain, Fereldan's greatest living hero, the chance to do the same.

The Stolen Throne indicates, to me, how far he has fallen. Makes him more tragic, but ultimately, not less dead in my games.

I had him killed only once, in a playthrough I don't identify with at all. Yea I felt sad. But I knew I was playing that playthrough just to see what happens. In my "main" playthroughs, I never kill him.

It depends on my character's goals.

My mage annulled the circle, killed Loghain and had Anora dethroned, before having herself appointed chancellor, in essence she's got herself a puppet king with no coherent opposition to her.. uhm I mean Alistair's... rule.

My Dalish spared Loghain and had Alistair+Anora marry, then did the ritual, more or less because I want to see how it plays out in Awakening.

My City Elf, will probably do the same with the exception of feeding Loghain to the Archdemon.

Your city elf would spare Loghain after returning to the alienage? My CE would have taken his eyes out with a spoon if she could have.

My CE spared Vaughn in the origin tooPosted Image

He does actually make a fairly convincing argument, and he has great lines, and I want to see what he has to say for himself when you find him in Howe's  little play pen.

As for Loghain it's part meta-gaming don't want to do the ritual and I don't want my PC or Alistair to bite the dust, and it's part irony  what better way of getting revenge on Loghain for the slavery debacle than to have him be your butt-monkey for the rest of his miserably short life?

I spared Loghain once. But I felt like I betrayed Alistair and the Grey Wardens, since this guy labeled us as traitors.

Other then that, I usually have Alistair kill him. And his blood spraying all over Anora just makes victory and vengeance ever the sweeter.

I'd rather give him an inglorious death, and Vaughn can't die enough times for my liking. Maybe you have to be a female CE.

Redeeming Loghain is probably my favorite ending in the game.

Actually, I started seeing that already in Stolen Throne. He's got elements of a certain infamous world leader in him.

Yeah, I know. My PC always wants to have Loghain die, and I don't like Anora, but I don't wish that on her. I wish you could send her from the room before killing Loghain. She shouldn't have to see that.

No, I don't like killing him and I'm sure I'll have a character where I end up keeping him alive. Even in my first runthrough when I hated him, he had to do his "daughters always stay six years old with pigtails and skinned knees" bit and I wanted to change my mind.

After reading The Stolen Throne, I really wish there was a way to keep him alive. He only gets a few cutscenes and those aren't enough to really explore his character.

Do I feel bad about killing him? Nope not in all the playthroughs I have done so far. Dies every time. Is he a tragic man? Yep? Was he at one time a hero? Maybe that too. But 'here and now' he's a menace and a bigger threat than the Orlesians to Ferelden. As the Queen of Hearts would say

OFF with his HEAD!!
