if no one complained about every little detail, than all these treads would be boring..
i mean who wants to read thousands of posts about how perfect and awesome Bioware is.
Complaints seem to make people think they are a part of things and that they have a say
in whats going on within the game
Do i believe that it actually makes a difference.. hell no
If everyone at bioware decides the complaints were right so they decided to bring in all the DLC items and let us choose what "old favorite" is in the expantion then they would surely push the release date up many months, giving way to a brand new set of complaints.
Nobody is perfect and that does include the developers and decision makers at Bioware

This is what I don't understand. You claim it's not about the sex - which for most people is correct. Yet, you go on to say it's about the interpersonal interaction, and the relationships that you develop with the characters. That isn't exclusive to romance (which you probably know). Bioware is fully capable of writing a close relationship up with a character without using any intimacy. You can tell me your relationship with Alistair or Zevran was the most meaningful out of all your companions, which would be both subjectively and objectively true - since relationships build up over a longer span than a friendship making it far more resource heavy to produce. But then, when you consider this, you also wonder if such a buildup would be fitting for an expansion of questionable length. That, combined with our lack of knowledge on just what those characters really are, their role in the story, and the core disposition they display towards the Warden makes the choice of barring any romance especially appropriate (at this time). Is it disappointing that there aren't any in the expansion? Maybe, but again, this is subjective - as you said.
Is it understandable? Yes, they give a logical explanation, even if it's vague or loose to you.
Those that speak for romances are out of luck and out of Bioware's minds. There isn't any point in wishing or wanting when it simply won't be.
When the expansion is released and people have the time to play it, understand the story, and comment is the appropriate time to discuss why there should've been romances included in the game. As for right now, no one knows enough to give an irrefutable reason as to why.
I'm probably going to regret not finishing that half pint before I answer this but....
It is entirely possible to have romance without sex. Ask anyone who has been married for 20 years. (Joking)
Here's the deal, I romanced everyone. Even Leliana who I found whiny and unappealing and Zevram who reminded me of a lounge lizard with fetal alcohol syndrome. I played through every single Origin Story and found as close to all possibilities for the epilogue and each companion as I could without getting fired from my day job.
Since Morrigan was the one I found the most compelling (I may have latent lesbain tendencies, or it was all those years playing as a male protagonist that left me sexually ambivalent, who knows) I was entirely distressed to find that she runs off no matter what you do. Stupid girl.
The romance, or at least the deep companionship and negotiating between whether it was going to end in undying love or in bosom buddies....that was fun. There is always an element of "what if" in any male female friendship that lasts up to the point you either find out or decide it is a bad idea.
It isn't that I can't live without it. Or even that I won't like the expansion without it. I most likely will. It is that I would have liked to have had the option in some form, even if it was just with the noobie NPCs. The implementation of it was pretty unique to my experience and one of the reasons I fell in love with the game. It made me laugh.
I understand full well why it isn't in the expansion. Time and budget constraints being just two. That doesn't stop me from wishing.
I do sincerely hope that they bring it back into the mix with any sequel they make. Because it made the game just that much more than it would have been otherwise.
And, honestly, when someone comes in waving both barrels and tells me there is something wrong with me because I *liked*
the romance I don't know whether to roll my eyes and flame the bejeezus
out of them just because I am a peri-menopausal hyena today or just wander off muttering about kids who understand nothing about the different layers of the game and why it was so appealling to so many.
At any rate, at the very least I hope that the interactions that we are afforded are at least as interesting even if they aren't as deep.

People if bioware left out these things there must be a reason. First, romances and sex, are you serious people you are complaining about not getting to have sex on the expansion you must have a problem if you need sex in a videogame. Second, if theres no holding on to dlc items we must be getting new equipment thats better. Finally party members, we are keeping an old favorite and IT HAS NOT BEEN DECLARED AS OGRHEN SO BE QUIET. Also we are getting 6 or 7 total why are you complaining you get new ones and life goes on. So stop whining about these features and just prove you're good at the game by overcoming the setbacks.
You know...THIS (points at paragraphs above) is what happens when people read, but don't apply any empathy or reading comprehension..as they are reading..
It is possible to have a relationship...friendship..whatever without SEX...oh my.
And Oghren has been officially declared..so perhaps you need to utilize the forums' search application, to better educate yourself, before you attempt to educate the rest of us....hehehe
And sometimes its better to post your opinion in another similar thread..than to start a whole new one, which has been repeated ten thousand times before.
Net etiquette....I think it got lost in the shuffle somewhere.

Besides, I feel that we who do "complain" have valid opinions. If we didn't voice out opinions, how would any developer know in which way to go? It's a tough business and it is so easy for us gamers to take our money elsewhere. Not optimal for any business.

Check the sig of the poster above you. Yup, that was one of the finest threads on this board, and I disapprove of the OP's romance choice.

I find the ones complaining about what they think are shortcomings much, much less annoying than those who think they have a right to dictate their opinions to others.
Although I must say, that "jesus" thread was funny as heck.
OP, I suggest you read the "Jesus with the combat" response in that thread. It will do you a world of good.

This my first response to any gaming forum. I have been RPG'ing since 1982. I know I'm old school but what hooked me then is what hooks me on a game to this day,
Story! When NWN2 came out it did something new, it allowed you to develop a relationship to the other characters and hear and see their responses. It was not just text or voice-over dialog. I thought finally someone is getting the whole picture.
You see I always wanted the PC RPGs to be more like the the old days when I played solely with my imagination. My characters always had a life beyond the quest. I never made a character for one or two campains and then just toss them away. The characters had personalities and made choices based on those personalities.
Part of that was always how they reacted to the opposite sex. Relationships for all characters including NPCs was encouraged in all the dungeons I ran, as both DM and player. Sex was an option, but it was there, if the player wanted it. I'm not saying to make it an adult game, but relationships between characters adds so much to the game.
Without the romance factor in DAO it is just another D&D RPG. They are all basically the same, save this or that, kill monsters, get treasure, find cool stuff, wander around till you save the world. Been there and done that. DAO went further than any other and came closer to making your character your own. They did this with character interactions, and they did it very well. In closing, yes I really enjoyed the character development and espiecally the romance factor in DAO.
And for those who do not believe it adds to the overall game I'll put it this way, books and movies add romance because it makes for a better story, and in the end after all the neat graghics the game will only be as good as its story.
Pretty much any story or movie has an element of romance/interaction with other people in it. I agree.

Wholey agreeable. I get that there can be romance without sex. Just living life is enough proof to that. I just don't get how people could take the lack of there being anything pertaining to this subject matter in the expansion so seriously - with an ever-running mouth and a wagging finger, as if they were saying Bioware made a mistake before their product even came out. My post wasn't directed at you so much as it was anyone who would find themselves in the situation where they're caught raging all over the floor and walls of our social board.
Nerdrage really does make quite a mess. The smell's unbearable, too. But the worst part?

On the plus side the devs said there will be much more companion dialog this time. Meaning they'll talk to one another more frequently.
We lose one aspect of the story and another aspect is improved. I can live with that as long as the main story is top notch.

We, the gamers, need to like some of these new characters too, and speaking for myself, judging by what I have seen so far, am not impressed with any of the four revealed characters. Sigrun is the only mildly interesting so far.Wishpig wrote...

But I get that the devs need to like their creations otherwise the gamers will pick up on it and things would just crash and burn from there on.
