While I don't really consider Charge a defensive power it is easy to see why some might describe it as such. I know on my playthrough if I was taking fire and my shields were down the best option was to spam my charge button since it instantly recharges shields, gives the time slow down effect, and if used correctly will position you near cover. That's how awesome charge is.
BW ruined the Vanguard class!

Mass Effect 2 has good RPG elements, but not GREAT. I think they will work to improve on that in ME 3. Otherwise, the combat is MUCH improved and the new classes are actually unique.
In fact, my only major complaint in ME 2 was the anemic squad interaction. From the makers of awesome games like Baldurs Gate and Dragon Age it was a bummer to see how the squad was mostly quiet and non responsive to their environment.
I have to agree with the squad interaction criticisim. I really loved the random conversations in Dragon Age between the party members. It's been a while since I played ME1 but I recall some interaction in the elevators which was fairly entertaining. ME2 certainly could have used more of this.
