Jesus, what is it with people and these friggin "complain" topics?
Ok, so you don't like the Vanguard class and think it's garbage. Then don't play it.
I personaly think Vanguard is the most fun & challanging class in ME2. It's a rushdown beast with a shotgun and has a high-risk high-reward gameplay style. If you dont like that, play the Infiltrator and one-shot your targets from across the map.

Think that people are just 2 incompetent for the Vanguard.

It's not that vanguards are underpowered, it's that infiltrators and soldiers are too easy and need to be nerfed so every class actually takes skill.

People want their game to be easy even on the hardest difficulty and then complain when they actually have to think and play well.

If the class is too hard for you, lower the difficulty. Leave it to the people who like a challenge.

Holy Bloody ****s, Batman...

Some of you need to take a Midol and chill the hell out.

Listen, I'm not super special, and I don't play this game morning, noon, and night. I do not claim in the LEAST to have HALF the play skill of most people on this forum. However, I found Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 to be equally as fun, with all of their flaws, because the experience was so much fun. I think a lot of people here miss the forest for the trees in these games, because it's not about achieving perfect balance. That's impossible. Someone, somewhere, with a highly evolved, mutant degree of hand/eye coordination is always going to take one particular class and make it do stuff that makes the rest of the world green with jealous rage. Some people are going to play the game obsessively, stripping every modicum of joy out of it so that they can dissect it like a bug. Some people, God forbid, are going to sit down and have as much fun with it as they can.

Satanicfirewraith, I played the Vanguard on about 4 character builds in ME1. Not because I thought it was sooooo powerful, but because I liked it, and had fun. When I played my first Vanguard in ME2, I had SO much fun with it, and I wasn't calculating DPS, or concerning myself with The Perfect Time To Charge. If I thought I could get away with it, I gave it a shot! Sometimes I got my ass handed to me, but my daughter didn't cry, my wife didn't leave me, my penis didn't shrivel up and fall off...I just reloaded and tried again. And sometimes, JUST SOMETIMES, I got myself into a bit of a spot and had to fight like holy hell to get out of it, and SOMETIMES, I made it. And you know what? It made the game THAT MUCH MORE FUN. I charged because I wanted to take a chance, I wanted to dictate the tempo on the battlefield, I wanted to do something stupid, I dunno. At the end of the day, all I'm doing is manipulating bits of code and trying to get a little joy and excitement out of a video game.  Honestly, it's not about effectiveness for me.  It's about screeching across half the battlefield, slamming the crap out of a bad guy, and then unloading on his prostrate arse with the Claymore.  It's freaking FUN!

There are too many video game players in the world that nitpick every single teensy little detail of a game, and then they jump online and start throwing crap around like a pissy little monkey. Talking to some of my friends who make video games, I've learned a couple of things:

1. They realize that they can't make EVERYBODY happy. They try to do their best, but they KNOW, not anticipate, but KNOW that there are going to be some people out there that just HATE it with a passion.

2. They LOVE constructive feedback, legitimate concerns, and dialogue with their fans. Posts that sound like "This Game SUCKS" are checked for spamming, trolling, and abuse...and ignored. If you want to be heard, be respectful, offer insight, and act in a mature manner.

When it comes right down to brass tacks, if you have such a huge, nasty complaint about a game, then quit. Kick rocks. See how many people you can take with you. Go out into the sunshine, get some fresh air. Try to find someone to hook up with, and maybe relax your hopelessly puckered butthole.

Directly to Vhatever: I don't care how good you are at a game, or how much fun you have or don't have with it. Coming on to a message board in the middle of the internets, and throwing insults around don't make you look cool. To anyone. I don't know if you've been told this, but you kinda look like a bag of douche, and the unfortunate thing about that is it colors whatever you write anywhere else. Now, you can throw insults at me all day if you want, because it's not going to make me cry, and if you hurt my widdle feewings enough about my bad spelling and grammar composition, I'll just hit that "ignore" button, and go back to my pleasant life. However, you'll still be a bag of douche. Just sayin'

Au contraire. Your idiocy is quite cerifiable.

Quit actling like you know wtf you are talking about when you clearly do not.

You don't seem to know what subjective opinion means.  Let me explain it to you so a child (you) can understand.

The only OBJECTIVE measurements we have are perhaps damage output per second or MAYBE how quickly a class can complete Insanity.  Both are flawed as an Adepts damage output would be below a soldier, perhaps, but still would manage to lock down a room.  Ultimately, we come down to personal preference.  It seems in your mind you are totally convinced that somehow your opinion is holy writ from the Pope himself, guaranteed and infallible.

Also, you are arguing about fictional classes over the Internet.  If you cannot see the "idiocy" in that, then you are quite beyond hope yourself.  Ciao!

Awesome!!!!!!

Shockwave is horrible, Charge is utterly pointless, Pull is the only real decent power... Its ashome that there is no Throw or lift anymore... or at least warp.... (for vanguard)
I mean they already gimped the class with the crappy ammo system, and by making weapons so underpowered, but hell they even get gimmped on the kinds of weapons available.

I am truely disappointed in BW by how badly they trashed the vanguard class... and honestly, after looking through the game guide, the other classes also look like utter garbage.
This, along with the other bad points,  really makes me question if I will even be interested in ME3.
Unless BW makes ME3 back along the lines of the original, (removing the crappo system, adding inventory, adding the stuff that made ME a great game) making it more RPG again then shooter, because if ME 3 is just more of the same as ME 2, then I'm out. Forget it. Not wasting money on it.

I agree that Vanguard sucks, but the reason it sucks for me is that I can't use the Vanguard's playstyle in the game without getting my ass handed to me. It's the first class I tried because I loved it in ME1 and after the first couple of fights, I was ready to stomp the discs into pieces. Tried again with other classes (Sentinel, Infiltrator, and now partly through the game with an Adept) and I actually like the game. The Vanguard class is for those who never miss a shot, I think. In ME1, it was a blast to run up and shotgun an enemy in the face because you had barrier and enough ammo to do whatever you want. In ME2, you have **** for defense and limited ammo. For me, that blows and I won't play as a Vanguard. For others, it's great.

As for ME2 being more shooter than RPG, I felt the same way to begin with. Between limited ammo, being forced to duck and cover (instead of spraying bullets like a madwoman in ME1 and watching my enemies drop like flies), and feeling like I was fighting for my bloody life in every single fight I was in, I started to have the desire to curse every BioWare dev with a very nasty, painful, incurable venereal disease to feel like the sixty bucks I spent provided some modicum of entertainment, however sadistic. Then along came Thane...  Oops, where was I? :P

Seriously, after my second full play through - with an imported Shepard (a female, who was a Vanguard in ME1 but I converted to Sentinel for ME2) - I really got past the "this is nothing but a shooter with RPG elements" thing. The relationships in ME2 (and I don't just mean the romantic entanglements, but the friendships as well) are more fulfilling in than they were in ME1 and, honestly, I care more about my crew members in ME2 than I did in ME1. There are some (Miranda and Jack) I'd like to knock ten ways from Sunday, but I actually like them despite that. There were certain elements of the story that were lacking (such as not having one big bad to go defeat like we did with Saren in ME1) but  I think that's necessary to set up the major **** that will go down in ME3.

The combat really is not as bad as I first believed it to be. My first full playthrough (Infiltrator, new character) was spent cowering behind boxes and firing like a madwoman when I had to (usually resulting in me missing what I was shooting at) and spamming incinerate as much as possible. I hated the combat in that playthrough. It made my blood pressure go through the roof and I genuinely found it irritating. It was just something I had to suffer through to get to the dialogue/story. About halfway through my second playthrough (the imported character who I made a Sentinel), I wasn't bothered as much by the combat because I knew which powers were worth a crap and which teammates were best for me to use (most of the time I used Thane and Garrus, unless the plot demanded someone else). This playthrough, as an Adept, I still use cover, but at times I get fed up and walk out into the open so I can Heavy Warp someone into la-la land. The important part, though, is that I've been through entire battles without ever firing my weapon once. It's hard to smack the game with a "made for shooter fans" title when I can do that. I do think the actual shooting elements HAVE been tinkered with to suck up to shooter fans, but as long as I can play without having to rely on my ability to hit stuff with that horrid SMG (that gun sucks ass) then I don't care how much shooter-fan c**k they suck.  ;-)

Seems I stumbled onto GameFAQs by mistake, so many people throwing crap around and telling people that they suck because they can't use a certain class. Only difference on here is that the mods aren't 12.

This thread needs a good purging by the mods, get rid of the butthurt people then we can talk in a civil fashion about ways to play as a vanguard. Seems reasonable enough to me.

Nah I think the waffle level is at a good place.

If your not the "Up in the enemies face blasting point blank" Type of player then I would not suggest the vanguard honestly. Also if you do not like dieing a lot (I am not the best shooter game player but I am allright) then do not try it on insanity unless you really want to see the game over screen a lot.
At least wait untill you get a hang of it.

Hold on, are you trying to turn an OP who made nothing but baseless claims (as opposed to asking about the class) into the victim here?

*Points at sig*
Vanguards are awesome and they're my favorite class in ME(my first character in both ME1 and ME2 was a Vanguard). Obviously you just don't know how to use their skills and/or your difficulty is way too high.
The best strategy is to pummel the enemy with a few biotics and while they're stunned move in for the kill with the shotgun(sticking to cover as you go). While they're not the easiest class to play(I died at least 30+ times in ME2) they are the most fun and have the most useful combination of skills IMO. Now I'm tempted to an Insanity run with a Vanguard in ME2.

No that would be rude and inappropriate.  The person was expressing their opinion on a class(which is mostly justified) and it's like a guy coming in and saying no you're wrong and you're just unskilled.  Let me change that opinion for you.  If the mod did, then it was very rude.

You call that OP mostly justified? It's nothing but a bunch of baseless accusations and barbs thrown bioware's way. Sure he's entitled to his opinion, but justified? Please.

Although honestly I doubt he did. I've seen stuff like that on other forums, but never on an "official" forum. Either way, I think it's funny.

Well to be fair shockwave is situational, charge is useful only if you're using Claymore or the Eviscerator, pull serves pretty much the same purpose as shockwave, and inferno is a crappy version of ap on insanity.  Yes he exagerated.  However again he does have some valid concerns and I very much hope that a mod wasn't an ass and changed the title.
