BW ruined the Vanguard class!

I love the vanguard class, it feels like adept light with Thane and Miranda on your squad. On top of having a power that can make encounters that takes minutes for other classes, be over in a matter of seconds.
2 things though: first, using charge effectively is not the easiest thing in the world, you have to learn how to. And secondly some encounters especially early in the game, can be hard for a vanguard, like Mordins recruit mission. Once you get the hang of it its fun and its hard to go back playing other classes.

Btw would just like to add that just because some people are good at a class doesn't make it a good one. Vanguard is fine but just more of a general heads up.

While it's true that Sino and Kronner are really skilled players, they don't really do anything the average player can't do given practice. As long as you keep charging, and charge into situations you can actually survive, you can dismantle pretty much any given encounter.

When you say stupid garbage like this, that's when people start thinking that you are a joke.
He had no right to rename the thread either yet he did.
He had changed to "I dont know how to play as a vanguard"
Cept I know how to play it, it just sucks. Plain and simple.
BW took a great class and ruined it... (not the only thing they ruined in ME 2)
So excuse me if I stop being polite to childish mods.
Oh dear not this guy again......
Its simply amazing how people are comstantly nit-picking the game down
As for myself, i player nearly every class, either at my xbox or a friends, and i say that Vanguards are perhaps the most funiest class there is. I have been playing many games, ranging from DnD to CoD6:MW2, experience comes with knowing what is out there.
Point 1 is that every class is build upon what the context of the class is, and how it would really work. Shockwave was a great way to get enemies out of cover, blah blah blah, i could go on forever about how good this class is, or how any class is in this game!!
Point 2 is that anyone that was here on the Social, no pun intended, would know how infamous this guy is, the class are pretty balanced out nicely, and with the weapon and power specialization, makes up for the weaknesses of the class.
Bolded quote: Well thats your opinion, no one will actually pay attention if your going to be a child about this, considering that the "thermal Clips arguement" that you made went so well right?
Finally, the majority of gamers here actually happen to enjoy the game, minus their flaws. As for me, the flaws were parts of the plot and having more stuff unlocked after beating the game, you know the main story....
If you actually want to make a point on these forums, please, PLEASE keep your emotions intact because 1) its a game; and 2) Everybody has different opinions, ranging from the RPG elitist and more modorate peoples

Well the class definitely has the highest learning curve.

Then what, exactly, are the parameters for a "good" class?
Enjoyability? Learning curve? General consensus?
It's pretty apparent to me that "good" is completely subjective.
Satanic was going around spewing his vitriol about how the class was dead and how it was garbage and how Bioware failed and desecrated the greatness of ME1 vanguards and how it wasn't fun nor "kool" anymore, and generally displayed very high levels of douchebaggery.

Well, that's actually all Satanicfirewraith's online persona consists of: douchebaggery. You might as well call out Santa Claus for displaying very high levels of jolliness.

Parameters for a good class or good anything in a videogame are DPS, defense, speed, power. Anything that can be based on numbers. Just because some guy can have a k/d ration of 3.0 with a Scorpion in MW1 doesn't make the gun good but rather the player. Again you need to judge the tool and not the user. Yes Satanic is an idiot but he repeated some complaints that other people have had with the class. So you can definitely say the class has a higher learning curve. Then there is the ranking of the classes in comparison to each other which I'll avoid as that will go on for another twenty pages.

Learning curve? Heavy Charge + Shotgun + Melee + Taking cover = Victory. That learning curve? You know, you're right, that formula is clearly impenetrable.

Yes clearly there is no learning curve. That is why this thread exists as well as these others.

There is certainly a learning curve, but it is incredibly minor. Once you understand that Charge, shotguns, and the melee button are your best friends, and that it is OKAY to take some damage in order to charge or find cover, you are golden. There's no mystery here. All you have to do is charge, kill, then take cover.

Again it's not just one person but rather a bunch. I would deem that a large people having problems understanding how to use the class would justify the term "high learning curve".

I'm kicking ass and taking names with mine. The only times I die are when I do something stupid like lose track of where the cover is, or accidently charge a shilded mech with my shorgun armed.
Grab an eviserator, strap on your heviest armor, and get your human cannonball mojo going.

Can't believe how bad these forums have turned out in such a short time.
No respect anymore, for opinions, for preferences, for anything. Mostly just people literally complaining rather than criticizing or the other side of the camp which is just as bad where the fan boys blindly follow BioWare and praise that they can do no harm.
I like ME2, unfortunately I don't love it, tried it, but still prefer ME1 even with all its flaws. ME2 is a great game but some of its shortcomings, and there are several of those, put me off. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether they will be justified or not is a subjective matter and no one should judge. If you don't like the thread simply don't post, or if you do then please be constructive about it and mature.
Alright, all that being said, the ME2 Vanguard plays largely different than in ME1 as does the Adept, unfortunately BW hyped some of the classes way too much on their videos and some people could be disappointed when they actually played them, especially if they played the first game and already come with a set of expectations. To me the Vanguard is a powerful class when played a very specific way, which really doesn't appeal much to me, I would rather use its staple class power as I had envisioned when I first saw the class video. Does this make the class horrible? Not to me, but it certainly isn't as fun as I would have liked. Others might love it, it has nothing to do with skill but with personal preference.

Most of these threads to which you're referring are filled with three or four people crying about how the Vanguard is terrible and about twice as many people telling them the Vanguard is fine.
Biotics can't CC entire rooms for minutes at a time any more. No crap. That's intentional. It doesn't mean these classes have an impenetrable learning curve.
