But you're right, the DL characters are likeable, for the most part anyway. Raistlin, Tas, Flint, Silvara and Gilthanas are my favorites. Tanis started out as my favorite because the first one I read was Kindred Spirits. But then the more I read the more he got on my nerves. And I never liked Laurana...

They would have too, but I don't think the campaign setting is a big enough deal anymore to generate enough interest, so I don't hold out much hope for it happening. I saw they did an animated movie of the Chronicles, but I heard it really sucked and I haven't bothered to rent it...
Yes it sucked so hard it could have pulled a basketball through a garden hose and the sequal was even worse.
If you are gonna do a campaign setting I would say Forgotten Realms for the only reason that all of the characters there are very fleshed out, there is much more material to work from. TSR really really went in-depth with that world then some really crappy writers came along and ruined it.
In the old P&P editions 1St and 2nd FR was the best setting to play in. I always scaled back the magic but as far as a really complete world it was the best.

This man speaks the truth. I still play 2nd edition setting with 3.5 rules. Now in 4th it´s even worse and they have killed my beloved Sisters and even more beloved Dark Maiden!

I doubt you'll find another Dragon Lance game. The excitement publishers had for D&D when 3rd Edition came out wasn't there when 4th hit. It's been a couple of years and still no 4th edition game announced. I've pretty much given up hope.

Out of curiosity Steel Moon, which books were those? Most Forgotten Realms books *are* horrible, but there are a few gems out there.
As far as Dragonlance is concerned, I wouldn't mind a game set in Kyrnn. It would have to put me in control of the Heroes of the Lance though, and would probably be more of an action-RPG than BioWare style. At the very least it would be like Planescape and drop me into the role of an established character. The reason for that is because Dragonlance is one of the most rigid settings ever. It's very hard to pick out any of the more interesting moments in Krynn's history and find a niche for a standard D&D party when the protagonists a given novel series are out saving the world as everyone knows it from gods and dragons of nigh godly power. I used to read a lot of complaints about the Forgotten Realms being saturated with overpowered NPCs that minimize the PC's impact on the world, but Dragonlance is way more guilty of that than any P&P setting I've ever seen; despite there being fewer godlike characters running around.

As to FR, I enjoy everything written by Ed Greenwood including the old Dragon Magazine articles before FR was a formal game world beyond his pen & paper group. He is a pretty good writer, but I suspect my love of his material comes from it being pretty obvious from his writing that the Forgotten Realms was a labor of love.
I will not speak of 4e. Pathfinder, on the other hand, is what I would have wished for in the next edition of D&D.

Oh god, I have to really reach back for this... The first book of the Avatar series. Elf Shadow? and something else with the same characters that also had "Elf" in the title...

Yeah but whoever does the DL game has to step up and go mountains above anything ever done for and D&D game in the past.
Why? Baldur's Gate I, II & Planescape:Torment were D&D games, using a slightly more recent version of the rules than the Dragon Lance campagin setting!!!

Elf Shadow... then the other one is probably Elfsong. The Avatar trilogy was godawful. I never read the Harper books, but they seem to be hit or miss depending on whether or not you like Elaine Cunningham's writing. I was okay with her Starlight & Shadows trilogy, but disappointed with her not FR related urban fantasy books. Not that I would put any FR book as a pinnacle of literary mastery. More that some are above average.

Kind of inevitable when you have a corporate entity owning a setting and assinging works to people.
