i didn't say the fetus its self was pure i said its soul was. The coruptted blood of the dakspawn taints a wardens body and shortens there lifespan, but corupttion of a soul is caused by our actions in life therefore a fetus soul that has not yet had a true life is pure.

Some form of magic had to be taking place for the ritual to even work on the basic level. For Morrigan to concieve, which was the whole point of the ritual, something had to bypass the tendancy of the Warden involved to shoot blanks. The Taint is a big fertility killer. The ritual happens on that one night, at that moment. It would take magic or some sort of power to get live rounds for the Warden to be able to produce on demand the stuff needed to sire a kid in the first place.

And then of course, the Taint itself needed to be drawn into the kid without destroying it, and something done to make this kid the desired beacon to draw the Old God's soul without the corruption that made it an archdemon. All of this accomplished on one night, with one sex act. So there was ALOT of magic involved, probably 3/4 of the ritual was powered by magic, with the sex/conception providing the necessary physical focus/vessel to contain all this.

Whether or not it was some form of blood magic, it's hard to say, but it's possible that it did involve something to that effect. Since the ritual was centered on the creation and manipulation of a life/life force, at the least, it was a cousin or grandparent to the blood magic that is currently practiced today.

Now what Skadi_the_Evil_Elf said is something that I agree upon.

It has something to do with ancient magic, but not a definite blood magic... =)

I think it was confirmed that the Archdemon rearing his ugly head during the 5th Blight happened to be Urthemiel, Old God of Beauty. Just makes one wonder how that'll effect the little brat.

She says this?! Really? I will need to confirm this. I'm coming up on this part of the story so I should know soon.

I don't think that Grey Wardens are rendered sterile. I think it is more of a case where a convenient lie, much like the omission of the "thirty year and out" clause and the "he who slays, dies" rule, is perpetuated as truth.

If the taint alters the warden's genes, then the possibility of two wardens having a child would be the danger of procreating a tainted child, possibly an abomination or worse.

I don't think any commoners will question you both surviving as they don't know about the warden's sacrifice.

However, as I like to take the "Tell them they were wrong" option, if they do believe me, doubt it, I di kind of feel sorry for the next Warden to slay an Archdemon and not knowing he would die doing it....oh well, not my problem : )

She does but she also said it to my rogue elf as well as my blood mage so I'm not sure that this is definately linked to you being a blood mage, it may just require one of your companions to be a blood mage.

I was thinking along the same likes as skadi. I assume she had to keep a close eye on her cycle and time things just right (i.e. delay ovulation) to make sure things were set on her side of the equation. Morrigan also says that the newer a person is to the Wardens the more likely they are to be fertile, and she's relieved to hear that Alistair can perform well, so perhaps the magic she did sped the conception process along? Any blood needed would probably come from her...maybe a little from Alister/Warden/Logain. Morrigan strikes me as a biter/scratcher in bed. >_> lol

Anyone else thinking Arthur and Morgan (Morgaine/Morrigan!) with these two? I'd look at the magic involved in their conception of Mordred for even more clues. -geek-

I don't think the Taint renders GW sterile, either. I think it's more than the presence of the Taint causes conception and carrying a child to term more difficult. GW can have children, it's just more difficult. And the longer one of the parents has had the Taint, the more difficult it is.

And yes, the first time I saw Morrigan and heard her name, I thought of Morgan.

I doubt Bioware will do it. I was expecting to be able to confess to Wynne post victory. But she just told me she was going to get on with her life and she didn't want to bore me (I couldnt trigger her companion quest that playthrough).

Well, I am hopeful the Maker might intervene a little bit to ensure we get a kid. Though, since Alistair and my char haven't been tainted very long, and they are both healthy, AND they get a lot of trying in... We'll see. ;)

What she says if you are a blood mage is the following - "some call it blood magic - but we know you won't have a problem with that"  - the dailogue IS different than with other characters where she says something more like "you have seen enough to be accepitng of it." and I think there may be a unique line of dialogue if you romance her - however I do not know if this speaks to the ritual itself being blood magic or Morrigan being aware that you are a blood mage.
