Editor slow to respond for everybody or just me?

I'm working on a new level and choosing objects out of the palletes section to place in the level area.
Is it just my computer and the editor that is super slow to respond or is this just how the editor works?
For example I choose a prop (prp_deadtree) or something like that. However it's several seconds before the prop even shows up as ready to place on the landscape, and when I say several seconds I mean it could be anywhere from 3 sec to 10 sec. I choose the item, then move the mouse to the landscape area, middle mouse click to make the landscape area the focused window again, then watch the spinning busy mouse cursor icon for anywhere from about 3 to 10 sec, then the item is finally ready to be placed.
Is there anyway to improve the performance of the editor?
I'm using:
AMD Quadcore 2.2GHz
8GB System RAM
Windows 7
Nvidia 275 GTX
Thanks,

Thanks,
I am also having a serious slow down any time I try to place a model into an area.
Ex: Selecting "c_deera_3" (or anything else similarly detailed) and moving my mouse into the editor window takes aprox 10 seconds before the model appears. It also causes the toolset to CHUG so badly that I can not accurately place the model without painfully slow and deliberate focus.
I can not build anything like this.

Try turning off the display options you have enabled like lighting.
Toggling graphic options does nothing as far as I can tell.
Most of the time once the toolset starts chugging it effects the whole toolset long after I stop trying to place the model, it even slows selecting toolset menus. Normally I have to click on another task bar item and re-select the toolset to stop it.

This appears to be a database issue??? Or am I mistaken?

That's why when you select a model and then keep using the same one there's no delay because it's already loaded but when you select a new one you have to load it again.

Seems that this happens because the toolset only loads models when you try to use them, the speed of this load can vary based on HDD speed and other computer specs.

I am running a 3 HD RAID... I do not lack for access speed in any other capacity. If that is the issue, it is odd that the toolset is the only software on my PC that suffers from it...
