go farm for better equip just travel back and fourth between places to fight random encounters or go find a shop that sales them
id say go for both mage and elf or just do what i do and get 1 of each class and sex 6games

Not quite sure I understand the question - are you stuck in Anvil of the Void? You need to put at least one point into trap making in order for Leliana to disarm traps. If she's close to levelling, then make sure you do that, although I will sometimes just sidestep them.
As for 2 -
Depends on what you like playing - Circle Mage is an interesting storyline, as is Dalish elf, and Dwarf Commoner. The archery spec is not that great by itself - especially in closer quarters like deep roads when you have 7 of those deepstalkers nibbling at your heels. I found I did much more dmg with my dual wield than with my bow. However, the bow does come in handy especially in the end game, when you may want to pick off a few of your opponents to "thin the crowd" a bit before you and your party wade in and start swinging.

From Final Fantasy, Warcract, Never winter Nights, Serect of Mana I'm going back to 1990 here i've always had more enjoyment being at a distance so i can better observe and survey the fight it became even more so once games went 3-D so archery seem like a good choice for me as for WOW my favored class was always the glass cannon mage bescause i felt i can do more with him over the other classes not saying that other classes are not fun (tanking is nice and fun)
Bioware always had a soft spot for wizards and really pulled me into RPGS i was always mad my BG game crashed before i beat it and BG2 i could never get anywhere in it hehe

yeh i'm confused as well, so i'll stick in the Anvil...
this is a tough fight. like most of these unusually tough boss battles, go for the boss last.
if you can build threat on your tank and draw the boss away, just keep running him/her around, while you gobble up the lyrium health pods (this keeps the boss from using them later).
focus the rest of your party on one other attacker at a time, and cast heal on the "good" golems to keep them standing.
also, use tactics to have your party members auto-heal with potions whenever their health drops below some point (i use 50%)...
and use cone of cold...
sorry, but i don't go anywhere without a mage.

Golems are tough, but they freeze and shatter like most of the rest.. just try to keep your party back a bit until after they Hurl...
my fallback strategy for tough battles... use Hold, move up with one resistant character to activate the enemy... turn and lead them back around a corner to the rest of your crew and pounce on them.
i seem to recall that Golems don't respond well to Cold and Lightning...
traps are a nuisance... but as long as you only trip the trap with one party member, you should survive to fight another day.

Are you in the room with the golems and the gas? You DO know you can turn the gas off, which will stop your party from taking damage? There is a valve on either side, and you don't need any sort of disarm ability. You simply shut them off.

i've done all the origins, but only carried a few of them into any real character... and i prefer the mage.
just be careful about trying to multi-focus your character... if your try for archery and dual weapons, you will not be able to get to the best talents in either Talent Tree...

You do not need to put points in the Trap-making skill for Leliana to disarm traps. Trap-making is only to make them (and gives passive boosts to trap detection). The Deft Hands talent will give her bonuses to lock-picking and trap disarming. Raising her Cunning will also help with this.
Edit: As for what to go for on your second playthrough: if you like archery, go for it! I played a Dalish archer Ranger/Bard on a previous playthrough and had a blast!

what I did was Leliana's stealth was high enough to walk through there and disarmed the traps, then we all came in and fought. I just had everyone concentrate on one target at a time, used the pause key allot to make sure everyone stayed healthy.

so how to defeat branka without a mage in the party?

I usually just kill the golems, then kill Branka. Focus on killing one at a time--Branka doesn't actually hit very hard, so if you kill all the golems it's not a hard fight. The golems, on the other hand, can be pretty dangerous when they throw rocks around and use their quake ability. When you're fighting Branka, stick someone close to the nearest lyrium crystal and have them use it when Branka runs for it. Also, have your party use them for health.

For Branka's battle, with Shale and Oghren in your party, a few notes:
- It will be tough to keep the ally golems alive without a mage (which is one of the reasons I always have a mage for Anvil)
- I don't know about "Branka doesn't actually hit very hard" - with my PC at lower levels I felt that Branka hits like a truck (not as bad as Ser Cauthrien or Jarvia, though). Regardless, she runs *fast* and repositions, so immobilizing her is important. Hopefully someone in your party has some sort of stun, paralysis rune, something. (This is another reason I always bring a mage, since without one your options for immobilizing Branka and golems are limited.)
- Even if you have enough healing poultices, have your party members use all the lyrium veins just to keep Branka from recharging
- Don't know what crystals you have for Shale, but try to put your best crystals on her (clear or better). Normally nature crystals would be good for regen, but given the lyrium veins you don't really need the health regen.
