I think I'll give that a try my next game through. Thing is, when the icon comes up...you feel you just have to press the button. Annoying habit.

Oh, I know the thread is tagged with "Hold the line", but having gone back to a Mordin-less ME1, Garrus uses that line as well. Hm....

Wow, for a character support thread, this thread has received far less fanfare than the other ones. Is it because we can't romance Mordin?

Pretty much if the character isn't romancable, it doesn't receive as much attention. Which is ashame since Mordin is such a strong and fun character. I would say he was a fan-favorite too, response to him has been over-overwhelmingly positive.

You see I think that may actually be true and I must admit, the Thane fanclub is covered in Thane romance (not that I'm complaining) and that's all that goes on, unlike here where we have a great chat about Mordin. Speaking of whom, which is your favourite phrase by Mordin? My favourite, without a doubt, is "I am the very model of a scientist Salarian". Now that was funny.

Wait, he gives sex advice?

Yes, indeedy he does. And he feels insulted if you think he's joking.

Have to admit, while I can understand the medical need of warning Shepard about certain... er... physical compatibility issues associated with interspecies intercourse.... (you know, that could sound really dodgy....) it is a bit of a surprise that he would also suggest positions as well. Though that's part of the fun about him telling Shepard about the birds and the bees as it were.

Mind you, it also makes me wonder just how thorough his medical examinations of the crew are...

Hey, as long as he didn't do anything with my LI I don't care. lol. I think the Sex advice is very funny, especially since it's Mordin. You think that he's probably lived a sheltered life. Mordin, more than meets the eye.

Well, the dialogue in-game suggests to me that Mordin has studied sex (quite extensively too considering the advice he can give out) rather than participated in it.

He mentions a favourite nephew, but no mention of any off-spring himself. Considering Salarians negotiate contracts for breeding or something (that bachelor party on Illium conversation), I wonder why Mordin doesn't seem to have any off-spring himself. Hm....

Perhaps he, like myself, has dedicated his life to the one thing he loves, which is science. Perhaps he believes that his work as a scientist would be more important than leaving behind off-spring. But how did he learn so much, those things wouldn't be covered in basics. Hmm....

Given that Salarians process emotions quicker than humans (conversation after his loyalty mission I believe), perhaps it may mean they also process information, and hence acquire knowledge, quicker too. Given their short lifespan, of course.

Perhaps they can draw conclusions more quickly, too.

1. I love chatting with you guys and how we work out things we don't understand about Mordin (high five to all). 2. Perhaps that's the answer. The fact that salarians process things faster must be a contributing factor to his extensive knowledge of sex. He must have done research and figured out what each species likes and dislikes.

I think we do some constructive thinking around here. At least that's what I'd like to think. ;)

Actually...I'm starting to wonder how far Mordin's knowledge of sex goes. (Oh dear...) The game represents us with the following combinations: Quarian (Tali), Human biotic (Jack/Miranda/Jacob?), Turian (Garrus), and Drell (Thane). (Have I missed any?) Mordin has advice for these combinations with Shepard if a romance seems to be on the cards.

However, if staying loyal to ME1's romance or decide to pursue Kelly, Mordin assumes Shepard is attracted to him. I would guess that Mordin would have advice if the partner is an Asari had that option been available in ME2, but I'm more interested in the Kelly option which he doesn't seem to have picked up on. Aside from Mordin not recognising Shepard's and Kelly's relationship (should you play the game that way), I'm wondering whether he would give advice. That is to say, if the relationship was between two normal people of the same species and doesn't pose any abnormal health risks. Those sort of 'plain' relationships might not be of as much scientific interest to Mordin than the slightly risky interspecies options available.

And yeah, I guess I'm overthinking things a bit. :D

Hello! I just wanted to direct your attention for a moment to the new introduction to the forum with an outline of the purposes of this forum now that it has been separated from the strategy discussion.

You have discussion of your favorite character going fairly well, but I'd also encourage you guys to share your fan-created works as well! Someone has to be determined to trump the Grunt costume out there.

So has anyone seen the Shadow Broker's dossiers on Mordin?

I loved reading the STG mission report and the banter that Mordin and Kirrahe had. (This makes me hope that they both will appear in ME3 so you can see some interaction between the two. ) And how Mordin used a pitchfork was epic! :D

It was nice to see the list of plays/talk shows he was in and it makes me want to see them….too bad they weren’t on the SB’s videos. :(

I would’ve loved to seen his talk on "The Facts of Faith". I think his talk about religion on his loyalty mission was very powerful and is one of my favorite Mordin quotes.

I agree, the dossiers were pretty awesome. Reveals much about Mordin's character. Despite injury, he was still able to impale a krogan with a ptichfork. Impressive.

I thought he ran someone over a combine tractor when he mentioned killing with farming equipment... but it seems that the method was far more banal...

Only just completed the Shadow Broker dlc. Now I get that pitchfork reference.

Seems to me, reading the dossier, that Mordin and Kirrahe had an uneasy working relationship. Again, Mordin gets reminded to 'hold the line'.

(And...oh....we've moved?)

I always interpreted Mordin's and Kirrahe's STG relationship as one of mutual respect even if they do disagree from time to time. (After all Mordin does call Kirrahe a good captain when you bring him up and Kirrahe seems to respect the men in his STG unit).  Even the insults didn't seem to be malicious in nature; it's more like Mordin is frustrated at Kirrahe more than anything. But in the report they both agreed about Maelon, so it’s not like they disagree about everything. :)

True, true. Reading the dossier it seems to suggest that there was frustration on both their parts (the name calling), which moved to essentially a term of ...endearment I suppose. Not sure if that's the way to put it. Mutual respect is right.

Mordin mentions that Kirrahe was fond of speeches. You think that Mordin was referring to the incident on Tuchanka in the dossier and his preference of 'doing the job and go home'?

Endearment? :) Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part, but I’d like to think that  they became friends over the years of being in the STG together.

Possibly. Although I think it said on the dossier that Kirrahe “restates” the importance of holding the line, so I’m sure Mordin and the rest of his STG unit have heard that speech before. I’m sure Kirrahe likes to make the hold the line speech (or at least a similar one) before every mission. :)

Yeah...couldn't find the right word, and 'endearment' came to mind. :D But then...'respect' didn't quite have the nuance I was looking for either. You get the idea....I hope.

Just noticed that the second wave of Mass Effect 2 figures will have Mordin amongst them. Doesn't look bad either.

A Mordin action figure you say? :D If I had some money to spend I would buy one. I wanted to buy the Mordin poster, but for a poster it's kind of expensive. :( But if I had it, I would've loved to see the look on my roommate's face when she saw it. She'd be like, "who the hell is that?" and I would have to launch into an explanation of the awesomeness of Mordin and show her his song. :D

But I wish the BioWare store sold a Mordin T-shirt. Maybe with one of his catchphrases. :D

Explanation of Mordin to roommate: I suggest...."I am the very model of a scientist Salarian..."
Or maybe something less 'showy'.

No, deffinetly "I am the very model of a scientist Salarian." We all know how obssessed with that phrase I am. Pleases Bioware let us hear the full version. Wonder why it wasn't metioned in his dossier. BTW, getting all info on LOTSB from ME wiki so if I'm incorrect then we now know why. Just correct me, I won't mind. lol.
