I was going through Jack's loyalty mission and I'd brought Mordin with me as the 3rd party. Initially, his side comments about how experimenting on children was "unacceptable" (and other disapproving remarks about Cerberus' methods) confused me at first. I was -at the time- under the impression that Mordin would do anything to save others, even if it meant experimenting on a child.
I got a comment from a certain someone who shall remain anonymous (but knows Mordin more than we do, I say no more than that) who told me to do Mordin's loyalty quest. Which, at the time of Jack's, I didn't have.
Then I did Mordin's loyalty quest. Holy. crap.
That was, without a doubt, the biggest moral and ethical challenge in the whole game: Forget the Collector Base, allowing Garrus to shoot Sidonis. That was the moment where Mordin really 'clicked' for me as a character. He might be brutal and somewhat pointed in his methods, but the guy does have a heart and one hell of a weight on his shoulders. I kinda flip-flopped when discussing stuff with him, but the same guy told me there was really no way to possibly "fail" Mordin's loyalty. And the emotional stuff with Maelon... I think that's the only time you ever see Mordin pissed. The fact he bounces back so quickly afterwards is interesting too.
So far as any future salarian squadmates go -if we get another one in ME3 to "replace" Mordin- it's gonna be one hell of a hard act to follow, because for me, Mordin set the bar so high. As I've said before, if I wasn't a die-hard Garrus girl, the professor would totally be my new #1 favorite character.

I really liked Mordin's loyalty quest as well... Well, I mean I liked seeing a new side to Mordin, as it were (the mission itself was a bit depressing)... I was scared he'd just leave my crew, though, because I was constantly arguing with him on his view of the genophage. I was surprised that he presented the option of saving the data in the end (positively surprised). I was expecting him to blow it all up. It was interesting to see that even for him there is a discrepency between the rational and emotional effects... Gave him a lot of depth beyond just comic relief, I thought.
Have to admit, though, he was already high up on my like list when he first got on the ship and EDI talks to him and after a long discussion with himself goes "have to ask. Is that an AI?" I was still working out his monologue when he asked so it took me a minute to go "oh wait, he asked me something". Not sure why, but that was when I thought to myself, "I like this guy"
My fav. line is: "I'm testing a bioweapon. Not on the crew of course. Didn't think I needed to clarify, but Joker got nervous."

Ha, so many times when I was talking to him I had to click on a certain dialogue branch twice because I had a hard time keeping up with him. Even the subtitles didn't help much, he just goes off like a rocket.Nightfire78 wrote...

Probably a Krogan, which is close enoughSo, what are our theories on how he lost an ear? Fight with Mike Tyson?

Just popping into the topic to say that Mordin in my favourite member of the ME2 squad. Not only is he awesome as a character, but the way in which he is written as a squadmate is perfect. I love that fact that he has a huge number of different "can't talk now" lines, and I wish all the other squadmates did too. My favourite of those lines has to be the one about cyanide capsules vs. ocular nerve flashbangs. He is absolutely hilarious.

Ditto... He was the only one I didn't want to shake and scream at "Enough calibrations!" "The engine is like a week old, it's clean!" "Enough meditating!" "How about you think about what we said last time when I'm not trying to say something new!" ... I didn't mind Grunt's "I've got everything I need" line, though... I mean, it made sense. "Need anything", "no i'm fine", "ok"... not "can we talk", "no i'm busy doing something that can't possibly take this long to do for no apparent reason"...

p.s. I was closing up work for the day and as I was counting money, I started to sing the Scientist Salarian song. Of course I can't sing and count money at the same time (I have problems with numbers), but the song came first.
And yes, I did do the grand pose at the end of the song. I think I spooked one of the guys going to the bar next door, but ehhhh, it was worth it.

I sing that song all the damn time. Sometimes I really wish I'd never learned it, especially since it's so short that I end up singing it several times in succession.

I also find the romances totally forced and cheesy and frankly kind of awkward and embarrassing. I had my FemShep get it on with Garrus just for the xbox acheivement but eh. Were I an incredibly prolific and adept software firm that makes awesome games, I would probably focusing on just fleshing out friendships. Plus, don't any of these people have sig others at home? The Normandy mark 2 ain't the Love Boat.

Mordin was my favorite character too. I took him on any mission where there was investigatin' to be done. It just seemed to make sense--who do you want exploring the world zapped by the collectors? Mordin, obv. Never disappointed.

The Normandy is totally the love boat.
I do wish the non-romantic relationships had been developed more. The most disappointing for me was Jack, man, that was so lame if you didn't romance her. I think the only non-romantic dialogues that I was completely satisfied with were Grunt's (because he had that solid final line) and Mordin's. (Although I would've loved more dialogue from him. It's not that it was unsatisfactory, it's just that you can never have too much Mordin talks. EVER.)

Edit: I don't want to threadjack here. As far as Mordin, I think that Bioware should totally bring him and the rest of the crew back. But I suspect that we'll get only supporting roles for all the ME2 guys because of the possibility that they could have bought it. That's disappointing but understandable, I suppose.
