Is there any reason ever to equip your squaddies with weapons like the Predator, Shuriken, or Avenger, once you have gained the upgrade? I know some people prefer the Avenger to the Vindicator for themselves, but given how the "rules" are different for anyone else than Shepard, should one always just equip the latest and the "greatest" for the other guys?

I've found that the AI does better with powerful single shot or burst fire weapons, so usually I keep the Mantis on squadmates, but that's about the only one I don't upgrade, I also only equip the eviscerator on the AI.

I agree with Riot. Small magazine weapons encourage your companions to take cover more often.
