Look at my video here where I show off a few things about Reave...

First Platform:
I can INSTANTLY throw off two people in a ledge. This allows me to pretty much instagib two people (I go Shephard first because reave from him is instant travel time, while Shepard throw is not)

Granted WE can kill off all three in one explosion (I was mistaken since I usually only use WE on synthetics, so there it doesn't instagib their shields so they tend to stay up), but as Gatsby's videos have shown, it isn't consistent. A lot of things can go wrong, and I prefer consistency over sheer power.

(For the record, I think highly of Gatsby. His skill is on a tier or two higher than mine; my suckiness in FPS games and whatnot leaves my headshotting skills lacking, just to name but one example. Doesn't mean I agree with his strategies though.)

Platform two:
I try to highlight the benefits of having squad inferno ammo; something you can now afford because you don't need a three man team to set off WE instantly. Look how long I can dance in front of the enemy because my team's ammo fire CCs on health. And with Reave, you can burst down armor/barrier down to almost nothing, allowing your teammates to help control the battlefield.

Was stupid at the end though. I was trying to show off how fast you can burst barriers down even with guardians (via 2xArea Reave + concussiion shot + minimal gunfire), but ended up using singularity.

Platform 3:
Highlighting the effectiveness of instant speed travel. Was also going to highlight how you can burst down the front collector before it becomes a harbinger (thanks to squad inferno ammo stun), but I was at the wrong position. >_<

Platform 4:
Double Area Reave the Harbinger, and you can see that the Assassin's barrier is ALSO close to dying. This highlights that you tend to AoE damage and NOT EVEN  NOTICE it.

In any case, after you bring the assassin down, then you can use him as a health battery while firing on other people. Look at me throwing Reave/gunning even in the midst of enemy fire.

Then I try to show that with Reave, you can even walk towards the Guardian without fear of dying, since you know the next Reave is gonna get you health back. Like I said before, you bring them down to health using powers, then you proceed to gun them to panic them via gunfire. This should give you enough time to recharge CD, and reave them again to gain health back.

(Note that Guardians are best dispatched by moving closer to them, as they love to fight at medium/long range. And if they move, that means they aren't behind their shields, which is so goddamn annoying. Unlike Geth Shield Barriers in ME1, it seems those barriers are indestructible)

Moving on... I was not paying attention and got Samara to die (this usually does not happen as you can use Reave to recover her health, buying her more time). Also highlights why I take Grunt; apart from concussion blast to immediately remove guardian barrier, this shows I do NOT need to babysit him at all. He will outlast any member of the team, and still provide support fire/draw enemy fire/cc enemy health when lesser squaddies just die.

In any case, my teammates then pwn Harbinger without any help on my part apart from the Area Reave in the beginning. Another bonus to having squad ammo now, as you NOTICEABLY boost their offense. Which was quite unfortunate, might I add, because Harbinger got killed before I dealt with the guardian. Losing Samara really sucks since your burst dps drops like a brick if she drops; if she was alive, I would've been able to CC that guardian and prevent him from changing to Harbinger.

(BTW, lotsa pausing on my part to try to slow the action down and show off enemy health.)

Platform 5:
Look at how quickly you can disintegrate Abominations with just gunfire, because now you can afford squad inferno. Not only that, but this highlights how you can use area reave + throw field to get rid of a 3m radius of husks. The never even got close to me.

And with Heavy singularity + Bastion, I can effectively go singularity --> heavy warp --> renew singularity without Scions firing back due to their low RoF.

For a more fluid video, go here where I did the entire mission in less than 5 minutes. If I was more skilled at playing (like say with skills to the level of Gatsby), this would be even lower, maybe even 4 minutes >_<.

Anyways, highlights include....
~0:57 - behold my nonl33t shooting skills. I kept missing the damn drone most of the time lol. No wonder I get fragged in FPS games so often >_<

~1:28 - third platform. Squad ammo CC to prevent harbinger from coming out FTW.

~2:15 - quick pwnage of assassin's barrier via double area reave + concussion blast, and I didn't even see him in my cross hairs until I concussion blasted!

~2:20 - look at me charging. Here, I can use Area Reave to maximum advantage, as I can AoE both down in one go. I have no regard for my saftey, because I know when they go to health, I can regain back the damage I have taken. Which is exactly what I did before the next part...

~2:34 to 3:08 -I concussion blasted thinking that the enemy will fall off the ledge. Man I was wrong lol.

In any case, this is the time period that shows exactly why I think Reave as such as powerful skill. As you can see, I was still able to disable Harbinger, CC the other guardian, keep taking hits from the back, use my gun to blow them to smithereens, AND still survive with only minimal cover via the health regenerated by Reave.

In essence, if I didn't have reave, I'd have to continually hide behind cover just so if I take any damage, I am able to regen it all back. Only problem is that hiding behind cover is what makes guardians bring up those stupid shields, while all the while harbinger is closing on you, prolonging the battle needlessly if one of them becomes Harbinger.

With Reave, I can actually charge guardians and put myself in a less defensible area precisely because Reave can get me health back and save my butt doing so. This allows me to burst down minions to death while Harbinger is disabled by singularity.

And its not only the collector missions, but anything against organics. You can maintain higher DPS because of Reave allowing you to keep going on the offensive.

~3:20 - I realized too late I was almost quite in melee range of these abominations. But with the combination of squad inferno ammo and area reave, I was still able to mop them out real quick and without taking any damage at all. Then I proceed to finish off scions in the manner mentioned above, although finishing the last scion with style by punching him to death lol.

Cool video. You should practice hotkeying all your abilities and all your squad abilities so that you never have to pause. You may mistarget on occassion but its less likely if you use area cast abilities. Playing without pausing is much more immersive, but your video is cool anyways. Also, you sure stick your head out alot even when your health is low, I guess you are just showing off reave's healing capabilities.

DragonKain3:

Thanks for making the videos and the commentary. If that is the extent of the power of Area Reave (and even double Area Reave), then it more or less performed as I expected it to. Thanks again.
