I did NOT mean to do this but it happened anyways - On a repeat playthrough, just to 'get it out of the way' I jumped to retrieve the IFF from the dereclict reaper as soon as I could - What I did not realize was that when you do that, you get a set, FIXED amount of time before the crew abduction takes place- no matter what your preference for the 'test' flight of the IFF may be.
SO

try this :

Do a run through wtih the BARE MINIMUM that you can - how FEW of the *special* companions can you beat Reaper Station with - Save this in a VERY SPECIAL place and when ME3 comes out - see how it copes with the LACK of anything close to a full compliment of companions

Also - For many of the Forum posters who are claiming boredom, lack of satisfaction with oft repeated playthroughs - Try playing thru with Bare minimum - the CHALLENEG is quite extraordinary -

What is the Bare minimum that you MUST have to succeed ? :alien:

i haven't paid attention to what the triggers are. can you clue me in on the minimalist path?

Pretty sure that you have to have at least 2 companions survive or the game would break.

I'm actually doing a "bare minimum" playthrough at the moment for the first time. I'm going to try to only keep Jack and Morinth alive, and perhaps Zaeed.

Well let me put it this way - I went after the reaper IFF as soon as i could - Only had Jack, Miranda and Jacob loyal - what happened ? Well, only Miranda, thane, Jacob and Grunt survived - and, weirdly enough - I have NOT doen the recruit tali quest yet - I may crash my version of the game by trying to recruit her for a mission I already completed

other WEIRD note - Citadel Transit system is closed to me - cannot access the Human embassy - and in this instance I had Miranda loyal AND at the final battle where she "quit" Cerberus - but the game won't let me go to Alliance HQ - Afraid I will rejoin alliance perhaps ? Making it EVEN odder - both on Citadel AND on Omega - when I step foot Edi tells me the quest info to do the quests, ignoring the fact that the extras for those quests are dead.

I don't think the game planners ever thought anyone would try and do the finale with only 2 or 3 loyalists

One thing I haven't tried yet but am going to -

Play through to the finale WITHOUT making Miranda loyal - then blow up reaper station - will she obey TIM and try and take Shepard out to keep the station intact ? Not sure but looking forward to finding out.

the trigger is that when Tim contacts you with the derelict reaper story - you are 'forced' to go there at once - about 10 minutes real time later - no matter where u are or what yer doing - The IFF test run takes place - resulting in the capture of the crew - at which point control comes back to you to decide if you try to finish loyalty missions and thus ensure the crew dies or else go after crew and ensure most of team dies - for true CHAOS - make the crew abduction occur while you are AT the citadel - in system -

I'm curious about that as well, wonder if anyone out there has tried it yet.

skipping loyalty missions seems like the ultimate renegade decision. i will step on their corpses just to not get my feet wet.

Well, I wasn't thinking of loyalty or renegade I was instead exploring variants in the game - here is the interesting bit though - as noted above, I NEVER requited Tali - so I don't have access to the quarian fleet - I Got Legion Killed BEFORE his loyalty mission, so I don't have the geth at my command - I never did Samar mission and without her have no access to her daughter - In short ME3 - as a 'transferable' character - my Shepard is going into the fight blindfolded and with one hand tied behind his back - I cannot help but wonder if ME3 is even playable if you have not aligned the mass of forces available to you in ME2 - based on the assumption that there is going to be a LARGE component of Fleet battles between reapers and everyone else - its not so much their LOYALTY that is crucial, its what they bring to the fight that you need - also as noted - the whole of the citadel is closed off to me - transist system wont work for me - never got to 'chat' with Anderson and council so never had spectre status re activated - never got forged passports cause garros bit it on collector station - in short I have messed up the 'expected' sequence of events that ME devs are working with for ME3 - I don't think they will account for everything that I have made to be missing.

I bet they will add like 4-5 new squad members (maybe two of those will be Liara and the surviving human from ME1) at least to make sure you have a team in ME3. I think the only way you won't be able to transfer your ME2 character is if your Shep literally dies, no matter how much you ****ed up in the game. If you skipped recruiting, I bet the characters will be alive and able to be recruited in 3.

DRACO, I wish you were correct about ME3 actually caring about the choices we've made. But the "have" to make the game playable for first timers as well, meaning no matter what we did, the game won't be focused on those choices.

In my dream ME3 playthrough, saving Wrex (thus getting the Krogan), getting the Quarians, Geth, Rachni, etc. on your team from ME1, 2 would make a drastic difference in ME3. Unlikely.

I think ME3 will be the same as ME2 - a 'canon' story line for non-imported characters, and then all the variables added in for any imported characters.

Though, hopefully it's more than just dialogue or character changes which are the only real differences in ME2.
