I'm doing a playthrough on insanity and everything was going great until I reached the Collectors Ship. Now the game has come to a screching halt. I'm stuck on the bit were they spring the trap with the platforms. Could you guys give me some pointers please? I'm a Sentinal BTW.

I had the same problem, who are your teammates, I did it with garrus and tali. I think the trick is to get 1 scion down asap, on my sentinel I used warp and the collector beam gun to burn the normal collectors, put talis drone on the harbinger to buy me some time, and had the squad take down one scion (its pretty fast with sniper rifle and AP ammo), it was pretty easy after that.

Yeah, thats where i ran into my first bit of trouble on Insanity. Grunt and Miranda work pretty well as teammates on that part.

Miranda and Thane shine at that point, warp is very crucial. when harbinger assumes control focus DPS on him or else your going to have a bad day.

I did it recently with my Soldier, I got pretty beaten too like five times or so.
I had Miranda and Grunt with me at the time, what I did was, start weakening the Scion before the platforms landed, then shift your attention to the Collectors, focus on Harbinger any time he appears and don't let him get close to you, when you are done with them focus on the Scion again and dispatch him, I suggest you move into the first platform where the Collectors came after you because Harbinger can easily flank you from the left if you stand into the original position you start from, from here is just a matter of survival, try to get you squad mates in good covers, give priority to Harbinger>Scions>Collector Heavy and endure, it really isn't THAT though, just exasperating if you can't manage to cover properly.

Warp ammo, Armor Piercing ammo are both good options. It's a matter of personal preference what to use.
Crowd control is your best friend on Insanity, but it depends heavily on your squad members if you're a Sentinel. As mentioned earlier, a Combat Drone is great for distraction. As well, Pull, Throw, Shockwave, and to an extent even Slam, Reave, and Neural Shock for the short moments of incapacitation. Evolved versions of these are valuable assets. You don't even need to finish off every mob. Once any collector's armor is down, toss them off the platforms with Biotic skills. You'll save time and ammo. You can also Cryo blast in an emergency. It still has a small chance to freeze lesser enemies once their armor is down.
You also have some room to work with, not much, but it's there. Keep one squad member ahead of you to act as a focal point of mob fire. The Harbinger will almost always go after Shepard right from the start, but at least the normal Collectors will be busy for a few moments.
The Scion isn't really a problem. It's slow and predictable. With enough distance, you can simply strafe away from its shockwave-like attacks. I generally leave Scions last because everything else has a much higher ability to flank you.
