I second the Red Green motion, that was the best **** that was ever on television.

Is it wrong that this was my favorite show as a child, might explain my skills at repairing stuff, I don't have them.

i think this discussion is quite pointless.... i mean we haven´t even played the game yet and we don´t know for sure if all dwarves have a special way of speaking at all

but i think as long they have a speciel way of speaking that matches the dwarven race all is fine for me

I'm Scottish and it doesn't bother me. The fact that you didn't know what Scotland was called offends me more.
I guess it's for the best though if your that ignorant. You probably think all Scottish people have beards, are ginger, drink constantly and yell a lot, right?

I wonder how many Sottish community members have dwarf avatars?

Dwarfs have long been associated with us Celts (be it the Scots, the Welsh or the Irish) and I'll freely admit that I too was was a bit disappointed that Dwarves weren't going to be Scottish in DA:O. This was largely because DA:O Dwarves are going of the awesome persuasion rather than the comedy persuasion portrayed in the likes of LotR.

However we do know how Dwarves are going to sound: they have not been given a particular accent and instead have a particular quality to their voice. According to David Gaider (at Builders Event 2) Dwarves have a non-accent accent (i.e. a mid-west American accent) but will have a back-of-the-throat quality to their voice.

Also according to David, Dwarves nearly had a German accent but people felt it sounded too odd with all the other accents in the game.

Its a nice touch, dwarves still look like dwarves and a small change away from the stereotype is good, something too drastic wouldnt be welcome I am sure, like having beardless dwarves, dwarves as big as humans or dwarves that despise alcohol.

Thats pretty much the most important stuff that establishes a character as being a dwarf though, being short, bearded and alcoholic. And violent. Maybe they should have Irish accents instead of Scottish? :)

i LOVE scottish accent but i am glad they went away from that cliche. and they should really save the german accent for the tevinter imperium if that ever gets in game

The lack of a Scottish accent in dwarves is refreshing. Just like having the elves not being the revered paragon beings they often are.

Would be nice though if humans for a change where not the dominant race owning the most land. That always seems to happen.

Dwarves in DA:O can be beardless!

No strong opinion here on the accent, but I really like what Bioware has done with the Dwarves in this game. It's great to be able to make a reasonably attractive female dwarf too.

You shouldnt be so offended by it, maybe he just belongs to the 10% of the USA population that cant even point the USA on the map.

It would have been entirely possible to get rid of horrible fake Scottish accents wihout getting rid of the Scottish accent: simply get Scottish actors to play them!  But then you might as well complain about the fake English accents used for the Ferelden.  Or was the implication supposed to be that all Scottish accents are horrible and/or fake

That dwarf is Gorim. Steve Blum also does the voice for Oghren (also a dwarf and a companion.)

The place the Scots come from is Scotland. It is the upper part of the UK and is where Kilts, Haggis, and Bagpipes come from.

Now about the accent: It does not bother me much.

Kilts originate from Germania, and are traditional in parts of modern day France and Germany.
I don't know why they're so closely associated with the Scotts alone.

Same reason as to why vikings are depicted as wearing horned helmets

Having grown up in Scotland, I know exactly what the Scottish accent should sound like.  The reality is that virtually no-one in Scotland, outside of Comedians putting on a fake accent (Rab C. Nesbitt ftw!), sounds like that.

In most cases, dwarves sound like the stereotype of what people think the Scottish accent sounds like.

I think that the lack of Scottish accents is just another way in which DA:O is different from typical fantasy games. I'm looking forward to seeing what other stereotypes they've turned upside down besides non-Scottish Dwarves and Elves as second-class citizens.

honestly, this is exactly what I thought.  I thought of dwarves being irish and scottish, since im pretty sure the irish are known for drinking and having beards.  I only learned dwarves have scottish accents because i read somewhere "dwarves are scottish."

But im not really bothered by the dwarves in dragon age not having scottish accents.  Like I said, that voice actor who does spike in cowboy beebop is awesome and i know he'll voice the dwarf fine in this game.

To be completely honest while for most of you it might be a refreshing change, some of us like the accent dwarves have and in my opinion it should be a voiceset you can choose from when creating your character.

On another note...take it easy on the OP people..i would hope these forums will stay friendly and not become a freaking camp of trolls waiting to pounce on anyone who doesnt know as much as they do..
