Image IPB  Having previously played a Stealth Rogue, it required a change in tactics now that I'm playing a DW Berserker.  There is no subtle sneaking up behind the target mage and clocking them with multiple back-stabs.

Image IPB  With the Berserker, I found the simplest strategy was to turn on Berserk and run straight at the mage, ignoring all the swordsmen in between.  For whatever reason, if you are running, melee attacks don't connect.  You're also not in one spot long enough for their special attacks to lock on.  The only thing that slows me down a little are arrows and magic bolts that unerringly home in on me.  I've seen arrows bend around and hit my Berserker from the side.  But they do much damage since my Physical Resistance is 95+.

Going straight for the mage has three benefits:  melee hitters can't tag me, one or more melee hitters follow me (thus drawing off heat from the rest of my party) and I can kank on the mage before they let loose the nasty stuff.  This strategy worked even better when I gained Templar and was able to resist and negate the mage's attacks with a single hit.  A Berserker/Templar must be a mage's worst nightmare!

As long as there aren't more then one mage you'll be alright and if they don't have traps.  Otherwise drop Holy Smite on one mage and then go for the 2nd if they aren't close together.

When you see the arrows go around the corners, I'm pretty sure that is when they used a talent and locked on to you.  The same is for melee talents as well.  If you lock on to an enemy, it doesn't matter how far they get away they'll still take the dmg.

Another similar tactic is to do more or less the same thing using Dog or a summoned Wolf. Use the following tactics.

Enemy: Nearest Visible class-Mage >>Overwhelm

Enemy: using attack type Magic or ranged >> Overwhelm

The nice thing about the Mabari and Wolf is that they run FAST. They get in and maul the crud out of a mage in a heartbeat.

As far as Berserker/templar. I did that with Alistair, DW Templar/Berserker. He put a serious hurting on mages in a very short period of time and I imagine their mana was gone almost as quick as their life was.

For non Templars you could always use Magebane.

That's pretty much what I do with my tank. I'll fire a taunt off so the melee enemies don't go after my mostly ranged party members, then I rush the mage, fire off a holy smite or shield bash and let loose. I have yet to spend much time with my mabari hound, but I'll have to let them snack on enemy mages more in the future.

I concur with using Dog in that way. However, I'd prefer not to use up a party member spot.  Instead, I have my Rogues (Lel and Zev) with Ranger spec. They both summon Wolves. Having a party of 6 sure makes piecemeal of anything the game can throw at you!

I always go after mages first no matter what.Even at the cost of party members.I can usually outheal melee attackers IF they can hit me.Mages are just too dangerous to be left alone to do their thing. One ranger with one pet is enough for me.

Problem is that they always cast misdirextion hex on me the second I get near them, Cleanse Area takes care of that though.

Holy Smite and then rush them works well too.

An enemy mage's worst nightmare is your mage hitting them w/ Mana Clash...or Crushing Prision...or Paralyze...or Glyph of Paralysis...or Sleep...or...;)

yhea, it is a shame that templars are so weak against a mage.

Best anti mage melee warrior is the two hander with Indomitable. Just straight charge him. Pommel Strike + Sunder Arms + Mighty Blow with kill most mages. Indomitable is really nice cause you can ignore all those nasty stun & knockdown spells.

mana clash

This.

A mages bane is another mage with mana clash. It will one shot any mage(boss types included) even on nightmare difficulty and it's an AE so any other mages nearby are dead as well.

Arrow of Slaying is extremely nice for taking out mages as well. It also works on non-mages.

I love it as a "I want that to die" button. Especially considering you can usually nail someone long before they even recognize your party.
