I built a new pc, pretty high end, and Dragon Age runs terribly. I set the game to high settings, as the games recommends, and after extremely fast loading, they are completely choppy. The only way to discribe it is choppy. If I put the games on the lowest settings possible they run smoothly, but even medium is bad.

System Spec:
Intel Quadcore Duo at 1.9gig (12 mb cache). 4 gig DDR3 ram pc800. 1 Gig Geforce 9600 GT.

OS: Windows XP Professional 64 bit.

I have downloaded the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers and still have no luck.

64 bit Windows seems to be a recurring theme amongst those of us experiencing awful performance on systems that should be providing smoother gameplay.

Windows XP 64 bits is a terrible idea too.

How are the other games?

Windows 7 RC1 64bit seems to be fine on my machine. I did a custom install outside of the Program Files directory and that has fixed a lot of problems in the past. I suggest trying it.

That's not really a high end PC though is it? A 1.9ghz core is still that even if there are four of them Unless a game specifically takes advantage of the multiple cores ( I'm talking generally ) then you have a low end cpu which will struggle.

800mhz ram is mid range in the big scheme of things these days and your graphics card is a 600 series which is entry level for 3D gaming.

I'm running windows 7 32 bit. Have 3.4 gig cpu, 2 gigs of ram and a 1 gig video card and I'm getting choppy game play as well.

I have very similar problems. I have geforce 8800m gtx, 4 gigs of ram running 64 bit windows 7 and it is unbelievably choppy even if i have it set to low graphics settings. I noticed nvidia is has a beta driver Notebook Release 195 for the 8 series. I heard somewhere else that this should help with the choppiness. should i give it a try? I'm hesitant towards beta drivers.

I hate to tell you but in todays day of core i7's, 1333mhz ram, and such your machine isnt even close to high end. Lower mid range at best.  That being said your machine should be more then capable of runnign this game as it has very low system reqs. I have a feeling the cpu is bottlenecking you. This may be due to the code not being fully optimized for quad cores? Or due to your much slower then normal quad core. By this I mean factor in that the core i7 and core i5 both come at a factory setting of 2.66 and easily overclock to 4.0+ for instance.

One thing I can suggest is going over to the Tweak Guides and follow the step by step instructions for optimizing your pc for gaming. This should help you out some. Let me did up a link for you and edit it in.

Indeed. With such a videocard you can't call that machine top of the line anymore. Sorry :x.

I play on my laptop with a c2d 2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 9600M GT 512mb (overclocked 20%~) running Windows 7 x64 and get 30~ fps on medium with high textures and frame buffer effects off. On high, i lose around 5fps off of that. With frame buffer effects on I get 12-15fps, so try turning it off if you're having performance troubles.

I'm running it on windows 7 64 bit and it's running it no problems. Maxed settings for all video. Upgrade your audio drives. Yes I know that sounds crazy but if your video drivers are up to date I've noticed on past games allot of 'choppy' video is actually caused by audio driver problems when the video tries to stay in sync with the sound in games.

I read the first post with more attention and oh boy this is far from a high-end computer.

Intel Quadcore Duo at 1.9gig (12 mb cache).

Not too sure about this without having the exact model but from the clock speed it seems to be on the very low end of the quad spectrum.

4 gig DDR3 ram pc800.

DDR3 at 800mhz is the bottom of the barrel as far as DDR3 is concerned.

1 Gig Geforce 9600 GT.

This WAS a mid-range video card at best in early 2008.

I don't want to diss your system... This sound like a very average system you could buy these days. Sure it's performant and everything but when you enter the gaming domain, you will certainly get some performance out of it but you shouldn't expect to get past medium settings, let alone on a game this recent.

Sorry man.

I'm really glad I didn't break down and install 64bit Windows when I upgraded to 4gig ram.. seems to be a recurring problem.

I run on Duo 3ghz, 4gig ram. GTX260 and game runs flawlessly (except for the known issue of a slighty hiccup just after a load)

I have Windows XP x64 OS and I experience NO such slow down. I also, however, have a GeForce 9800 GT, so I guess that balances itself out. I also have duo core 3Ghz and 8 Gigabytes of RAM, so it's probably why I experience no lag at all.

It's not just 64bits related, a lot of people have the same problem with 32bits systems, weither on xp, vista or seven.

Same, but it's more so a processor/RAM issue - Acer Laptop with a GeForce 8400ms, 2 gigs of RAM, 1.9 Intel Duo-Core.

The performance on this game is simply atrocious. Load times upwards of 7 minutes, constant unexplained graphic slowdowns, massive memory leaks. I honestly wouldn't even call this beta quality at this point. Between that and the bugs it's ruining my gameplay experience to the point where I seriously regret ever buying the PC version. My PC may not be top of the line by any means but it more than meets the recommended specs. This is simply inexcusable.
