Well, I think somebody needs to say it. I was on here for a while and ended up in many debates and arguments over the details of ME2 prior to its release. A lot of us had and though in general we all agree that we love the game, here's a look at some of the concerns we had prior to ME2's release. How is it releveant? I imagine many of the same fears will pop up as ME3 looms closer - still a long way off but... well here's my list of memories.

1. Bioware is killing all the RPG elements and catering to the shooter crowd, the forums will be overrun by Halo fanboys Posted Image

2. Subject Zero is Jack? Is suze transgendered!?! Posted Image

3. Cerberus is right, the Council is wrong/Cerberus is wrong, the Council is right (this one was HUGE). Also TIM for president popped up every now and then.

4. Miranda will betray Shepard and stab him in the back

5. Kaidan/Ashley/Liara is the love of my life - we'll be together 4EVER!Posted Image

5-b. What do you mean they aren't a squadmate? I hate you Bioware! Posted Image

6. Thermal clips? WTF!?! It's a step backward! It's stupid! More RPG killing and more shooter catering!

7. Immunity's gone? You killed the soldier class! Posted Image

8. Adept is too OP, you killed the soldier class! Posted Image

9. Is it a machine pistol or a SMG!? Which is it!?

10. Shepard is zombie/cyborg! WTF!? And the scarring? If I wanted to see this I'd play Doom!

11. The collectors look stupid! We're fighting bug people now? How is that a step up from reapers? How is ME2 supposed to be bigger and badder than ME1?

12. You killed the Mako! All we have is some stupid dropship! (granted this actually does have some merit Posted Image)

13. Engineer is too OP, you killed the soldier class! Posted Image

14. We need a censor, the F-Bomb is dropped WAY too many times! Posted Image

15. Why are we working with Cerberus?

16. Only eleven saves!? Time to erase the hard drive...

17. DLC? Cerberus network card? Yeah right, look at how much "DLC" was in ME1! (this one really is still yet to be seen)

18. We want to see some femshep pictures, does she still have a dinosaur neck?

19. Sentinel has the new immunity? You killed the soldier class! Posted Image

20. GS ran out of CE's! Now I can't get the blackstorm and terminus armor, why didn't they tell us to preorder sooner! Posted Image (preorders at GS were available for at least a month beforehand)

21. Nudity, or not to have nudity - that is the question.

22. People already have ME2? This is BS! Pirates have it! This is double BS! Posted Image

23. VG has charge - way too OP! You killed every other class! Posted Image

24. How come soldier is the only class that has heavy weapons? (some people, no matter what links you showed them, refused to believe that other classes had heavy weapons - oh well)

25. What do you mean are armor/stats/money/achievements won't carry over?

26. Only 4 skill tiers? This is BS! BW has now officially killed every RPG aspect of Mass Effect.

27. All these squadmates are renegade!

28. Infiltrators can use stealth!?! Cool! Posted Image

Well that's all I can remember off the top of my head, some may seem like trivial things now but each one was pretty big at some point in the past year since the big unveil at E3 (some obviously bigger than others). However, all of them popped up repeatedly. I realize this is all normal, part of pre-release pre-gold anxiety and, hell, some of the issues listed are still big deals right now and most likely will continue to be until the release of ME3 (a long almost 2 year wait from now). Still, it is a good idea to look back in hindsight and realize that BW isn't in the business to drive fans away and that people should give the corporation some credit.

I listed a bunch but I know I missed some, so add to the list if you recall any.

PS! (now) Insanity is too hard, soldier is OP! Posted Image

I still feel a small measure of pride in that I pretty much guessed exactly the situation with Jack (i.e. the game doesn't tell you Jack is a female until you first see her, but the trailers spoiled us as to who she is) before it came out.

Yeah, I have to take pleasure from what little successes I get in life.

Heh, that was the one class that everybody seemed to think wasn't overpowered. And no, this is more for humor than anything else but also to see which ones are still relevant right now: how will BW handle the DLC, which squadmates will show up in ME3, etc... I think the biggest was when over break a few people erased their entire hard drives because of the eleven save carryover only dillema.

Still it's interesting looking back and identifying trends (like CN's class videos and how after almost each release people were claiming that it was overpowered).

Op I think you are just mad that Bioware decided to make Mass Effect 2 a shooter that has rpg elements and more so it appeals to more gamers. I would not expect Mass Effect 3 to change it will be more like 2 because Mass Effect 2 is a better game than Mass Effect 1

I can't really say ME2 is better then ME1.Combat yes.

On the same note I can't say ME1 is better then ME2.

I think the two make each other better.IMO

On the contrary I'm happy with the changes BW made to the combat. It made very little RPG sense that an N7 marine couldn't shoot well, and the RPG elements are still there as well. Not as big perhaps, but definitely still there. Besides, even though I like RPG's there isn't a DAO emblem under my avatar Posted Image

In your opinion it is a better game, in others opinion it is not a better game.

With the way most RPG's scale their combat these days, there's an argument to be made that progression is hollow and pointless. All it really does it withhold tools and tactics in the early goings.

This one is going to take on all new meaning when they come out and start introducing the new squad 2 years or so from now.

I don't believe it's best RPG ever created but perhaps the best 3rd person RPG ever created were you step into an already established persona (a badass marine hero). Not all of the choices presented to you were at times any of the type you yourself would make. Still, it's a hell of a lot more RPG than actual first person shooters.

I'm not saying 5 or 5b is a bad thing or good thing, just that it was a major issue that dominated the forums. To expand further on that BW explained one of the reasons they didn't want the ME1 LI in ME2 is so that they would stay alive for ME3.

Yeah, I've only ever know shooters (my first being Halo) but I loved looting and finding and managing weapons and armor in ME1 and really missed those elements in ME2. In fact, I was darn good at looting. By the end of some playthroughs I had the best armor and weapons in the game, enough money to buy anything I wanted (too bad there wasn't anything I wanted that I didn't already have) and I was able to breeze through Pinnacle station's survival missions (ahem, one hour of survival on veteran when my box crashed) and it felt d@mn satisfying. Needless to say ME2 lacked that same feeling of completion. Heck, at the end of my first couple playthroughs I felt like I had missed something. I was worried that having burned all my enemies using incendiary ammo that I had somehow missed valuable weapons and armor.

Mind you, I only played soldier my first and second playthroughs, after that it was Infiltrator FTW!

Yeah, I am missing the money you got from selling weapons, mods, and armor in ME1. I understand why BW doesn't want you to have access to everything in ME2 (to force you into making more difficult character building choices) but still... miss it

This thread makes me glad that I first played ME1 only a month before ME2's release. :)
