Why are our companions immune to the Taint????

By the end our quest/mission, weve racked up some serious Darkspawn killcount and got coated in enough blood to paint Denrium red a few times over[Hail Clint]...and yet none of our companions show any signs of Ghoulism.
Just curious if any Dev can explain:)
Edit-Not sure if this comes under Spoiler, please feel free to report this to have it moved if need be.

Yeah this has always bugged me as well. Especially Dog. He has bitten literally thousands of darkspawn.
Maybe he doesn't swallow.

Mabe not, but Leli does so explain THAT.

Maybe you need to actually somehow get darkspawn blood into your body to be tainted. If so, than the only way to become tainted while fighting darkspawn is to be injured and have darkspawn blood mixed with yours. Unless their hobbies involve cutting themselves and lying in a pile of bleeding hurlocks, the PCs companions should be safe.
Edit: Wait a minute... If they get injured, they DO lie in a pile of bleeding hurlocks! I guess it is just handwaved if you don't go down in the first place.

Meh, the herb is a cure for being sick, it doesn't provide immunity or all the dogs would be given it.
surviving the first exposition to the taint might provide immunity. after all, that's what happens with Grey Wardens...
though if you play as a human noble, Dog never gets sick in the first place....

Dog was sick from the blood, but the medicine helped dog recover. Dog has developed an immunity to the blood.
Morrigan is a witch of the wilds. Maybe her magical nature provides some protection (do not know).
Lelianna is protected by the Maker?
Zervan (a mystery)
Just some thoughts.

Your companions are immune to the Taint for the same reason you don't get addicted to Lyrium potions.
Pfft..I totally got addicted to Lyrium potions. I had an urge to drink one every 30 seconds so.

Sten is just too badass to get infected?
I believe that is the most logical conclusion.
Really, I don't think there's an in-game reason - its just a gameplay mechanic. Its one of those things that simply doesn't make sense. Like not getting addicted to Lyrium: Wynne and Morrigan chug so much of teh stuff I'm shocked they haven't turned blue.

The taint thing is just never addressed, which is lame, IMHO.

I have to agree with that. If no effect why bother including it.

As for the lyrium addiction thing, I thought templars got raw dust, while mages use potions--processed lyrium--and somehow, the processing takes away lyrium's addictive quality? I've no idea if this in the game or I made that one up in my head to explain it away either.
