I enjoy planet scanning as much as I enjoy a root canal without anesthetic and getting an arm ampuated at the same time.

I want the resource gathering techniques back from ME1, automatic scanning done by the Normandy and Mako driving to the resource.

I want resource mining to be something you invest in like a stock market option and to have a better vehicle than the mako to explore "UNIQUE" worlds looking for hidden crap that isn't spoon fed to me like I'm too damn stupid to look around for it.

A nice idea in principle but I don't want to spend any more time staring at loading screens.  If the level load times are reduced to 5 seconds or less then I would be all for this idea.

So it was a bit gimmicky, but I enjoyed the polished feeling of scanning a planet. It was relaxing and rewarding when you could finally afford that research project you had been trying to for so long. A lot of people don't like it here, and I can sympathise with that, but I enjoyed it and wanted to see if anyone else did.

I agree, I thought it was relaxing and rewarding. especially when you hit those massive spikes on a rich planet.

I enjoyed it as a break from the fighting but I also had to be the in mood for scanning and tried to do as many planets as I could in one go.

Now, I don't understand why the person entrusted to save the galaxy couldn't assign another member of the crew to do the scanning for him/her.

I want autoscanning and then launching probes - why am I driving over to the minerals? Do I have my Spectre X pickaxe?

The process should be this: trundle up to Planet X.
1. Enter orbit
2. Activate the scanner
3. Scanner ID's all resource hotspots.
4. You filter hotspots by resource/intensity (all platinum hotspots with 3 "bars")
5. Dispatch probes
6. Done

Simple fast, you still have the expense of the probe so they can keep that mechanism. Scanner upgrades can find more hotspots and more accurately gauge intensity so you keep tht "upgrade" path.

It was fun the first time, but became a dull time sink very soon.

If the cost of upgrading the Normandy's toilet paper wasn't 25000 platinum I wouldn't mind the planet scanning. Still bring back the Mako

Planet scanning was better than Mako exploring for minerals, I still don't mind it on my third time through but the import bonus' are a big part of that. That said it strikes me as sort of funny that of all the people on the crew Shepard has to handle the scanning/probing. You'd think that would be someones job. If nothing else we should be able to tell a crew member to handle it, working much less efficiently than Shepard but gathering minerals as you handle missions and other important matters.
As much as I don't mind the scanning, I miss planetside exploration and combat. It would be great to see a system where resource gathering was handled by the probes or some such while adding more anomalies to be explored by the Hammerhead.

Not great but better than trying to climb a 90 degree incline in the Mako.

Why were you ever trying to climb a cliff in the Mako?

If I remember correctly I was trying to get the last resource deposit on Eletania. That was the most egregious example, but there were plenty of other.

So you made the choice to climb them?  Did you not know about the hand holding paths?  They were on every single planet.
