I'm going for an Arcane Warrior build. I also want near 100% completion, meaning as many side quests and extras as possible.
So are there any "DON'T DO THIS BEFORE YOU DO THIS" scenarios that could prevent me from certain content?
Is there anything I should do before heading to the Elves and getting my Arcane Warrior spec or is it ok to do that first?
First playthrough, suggestions on progression please

You could go there first but... there is a big flying thing in the ruins (don't know how much you know allready) which is a real pain when you just started. What will be your second spec, blood mage or spirit healer? (I assume it isn't shapeshifter)

I guess my question is then, where would be a good place to start off after Lotherin?

You'll want to head off to the elves first, then circle, then redcliffe. The reason for that is you're probably going to want to unlock the specializations as early as possible so that they are of maximum use. The elves unlocks AW, the Circle gives you stat boosts and then Redcliffe allows you to make the deal with the demon.
If you already had the specializations unlocked then I'd suggest Circle for boosts and to get it over with, then Redcliffe, Urn, elves and dwarves, in that order.

Arcane warrior is my favoritest build ever!!!
I'd go to Redcliffe after picking up the Arcane Spec., which will lead you to a quest to find a holy relic. If you explore the entire map of where the holy relic is located, there is a handy dandy weapon every true arcane warrior should have.
I don't want to give away too much if this is your first playthrough but I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you may have on an arcane warrior build.

I went straight to the elves, had no problem at all not even with the big flying thing. Just the revenant were challenging.

The big flying thing is a cakewalk compared to the revenants in the forest.

I hope you're not planning to rely on the completion stat to determine this. If you aren't aware, it's based on achievements, not what percentage of a given playthrough you've done.

You don't have to go to Redcliffe to pick that up. You can speak to a knight in Lothering, bop up to Denerim for further instructions, and then hit Haven before Redcliffe.

I would like to agree but I dunno... feels a bit of a shortcut for someone's first playthrough. The importance of visiting someone in Denerim, in my mind, isn't established until the first set of problems in Redcliffe is resolved. After matters are settled in Redcliffe the necessity to go to Denerim seems more reasonable but that's just my two bits. Take it for what ya will

Thanks all for the input. I'll go to the elves first. Then I suppose to the circle and then who knows from there.
