Interesting, I might start a singer's database. That would be useful for composers whoi might want to add some interesting organic elements to their music. Now all we need are some linguistic experts to help us with languages.

I'm curious as to how this would work. Would a developer post the conversation lines (maybe with comments as to the context and emotion involved for each line) and people would then post the .wav files for the conversation? Seems to me that would take up a lot of server space. What is the actual proposed process?

It's a single area for people to find a collection of samples. If someone likes the voice and wants that person to act for a project, then I imagine they simply contact the person through a message or email.

The idea is that developers contact the voice actors and they work out a system between them. It may be a shared space on skydrive or maybe they'll transfer material via skype or msn. I'm only facilitating the contact process, not the meathods by which you use your voice actors. Diferent people will ahve diferent methods they prefer. I'm not going to even attempt to negotiate actual script and file transfers.

This is a well organized group/project and the voice samples idea is very good as well. I downloaded and listened to a number of them the other day and they were quite good. It will be great if this grows and grows.

If I recall someone pointed me towards a thread or group on the NWN2 forums that had a number of voice actors, it might be worth a look to find that thread or grouping and see if anyone from there would be interested in doing VO for Dragon age as well.

Also, if the group/project admin wants to grow this further one could do a search for acting groups on line and point them towards here. There might be some good voice acting talent out there that simply doesn't know about this game or has no real interest in gaming but still likes to try voice acting.

I agree with you, again, but your post made me think...  If more-organized, more-professional, more-employable groups get involved, we will end up upscaling quality for price, and the voice acting we might have acquired for 'free' will turn into a market-type forum.  'Course, that's underestimating the 'professionals' and assuming they would seek profit.

Curious...

I think the best way to do it is to say that this is a free resource for those who may be wishing to try out something new or get their voice heard and get some credits to their names. I'd certainly create a new resource for payed voice work if the demand was required, though then my work as middle man would go uncompensated :P Personally I doubt anyone who is intending to get payed directly for their work with the toolset will recruit from the community.

I doubt that will happen. We'll be making sure the audio resources will remain free.

The only way I could see people turn for profit is if a company, we'll use BioWare for example, hears someone they may like working with for future releases and pays them to work for the company. I highly doubt you'd see the modding community charge for their product.

jazzy B3, one resource for voice actors is actors for other role playing games. The TES Alliance (http://www.tesalliance.org/) has a voice acting guild. Although it was set up to provide support for Oblivion mods, you might want to contact them to see if they would be willing to contribute to DA:0. I'm almost sure some would.

There is a group on here, the Voice Actors Guild. Its very easy to upload project files to this and we have about 10 different people's samples so far. I have some of mine done, but have not had a chance to put them up yet.

I'm interested in doing some of this. I do a great cockney and have experience in acting, I think it'd be fun. What I want to know, though, is what kind of equipment I should acquire to ensure good quality.

I have done a bit of voice work and have both acting (bachelors) and directing (mfa) in my educational background. Also, I'm currently working (and have been for the past four years) as a sound engineer/designer for a regional theatre company. I'd be happy to provide some artistic or technical input if that has any value to the community.

Just thought I'd post to say that the project's going well. Have 20 people with a wide variety of samples available to listen to so far. Don't forget to PM (Personal Message) me the links to your samples. This is very easy to do, just click on my avatar or name which will take you to my profile page. There you can select "Send Message" and then pretty much all you need to do is copy and paste the url to your project with the uploaded samples. Some text is always nice as a courtesy :P Always useful to tell me that it is for the samples database. ;)

I can try... I mean, sure I sound like I'm 10 on a microphone, but I can try to sound different. :P

Of course I'd have to do elf if we're sticking with the British theme for humans.

Hey, maybe mod makers need children's voices. Nothing wrong with sounding 10 :P
