Simply put, it - along with the sex scenes - feel like a pretty big step-back based on the publicity. I wonder if the same'll happen to DA further down the line, given how successful it also has been.

Its a sad day when I can list more gay Japanese game protagonists then Western ones.

It doesn't matter whether BW has included same-sex romance options before or not.  The open-ended RPG genre implies it.   People play RPGs because they wish to create their own adventure.  If an RPG has romances, many people wouldn't be satisfied with strictly hetero choices, not at this day and age.

You know what else open ended RPG implies?   Imagination.   As in your imagination is suppose to do most of the plot and dialogue work.    You know what isn't an open ended RPG?   Mass Effect 2.

Obviously, Shepherd has no previous established canon, and gives you a greater degree of freedom The Witcher, but it is far from true open endedness.   Open ended cRPG shouldn't even have complex dialogue because it limits the role of imagination.     

Perhaps Bioware is trying to set up a canon similar like the White Wolf novels.     And part of that canon is that shepherd is simply not gay.(according to them)      Your statement is rediculous on so many levels because Mass Effect 2 is simply NOT a open ended RPG.

Except that there is no canon Shep. Or rather, the canon MShep of the storyline is not necessarily the MShep that I or others end up playing; there are opportunities for variance. FemShep - as much 'canon' as MShep - can be straight, gay, or bi, celebate or a player. There are opportunities for all those romances, but MShep doesn't get the same consideration? Weak.

Wow. Maybe I missed somebody else posting but pedophillia isn't anywhere near on topic. As a Christian myself (yeah, there's some ammo for you) - I don't care WHO commits a crime against a child - they all deserve to get shanked in prison. Gay or straight.
