It is really unfortunate that the choices BW has made regarding this franchise to date puts them on the same side of the fence as a person who would put a position like this in writing and think it's okay. I wonder if they really mean to reinforce this sort of homophobia, or whether they are just content to let it attach to the game because, in this franchise, maximizing profit is more important than equal treatment and consistency regarding stances they have had the balls to take in the past.

My point is that femsheps relationship with Liara is far beyond femservice.    Its actually a pretty deep issue in its own right.

This is contrary to your position of including gay romances to pander horny homosexual men.   Which is literally just pandering as it can be argued it doesn't even make sense, unless its a bisexual romance, and even then, it would serve no point other then to be fanservice, unless they work it into the plot.    Working a homosexual m/m relationship into the plot of a major x-box game that isn't veiled in jade empire subtlety isn't workable in this political climate.    


Its also kind of annoying whenever someone starts one of these threads, instead of getting serious discourse people like to turn it into a chat thread.   

i just have to say this, I like the Asari, the're cool in my book.

BUT

The entire race is fanservice.

1 - They're a monogenedered, which means one gender and that gender if female, even the codex says so
2 - For the most part they're all pretty and all of them are in great shape with ample....assets
3 -  They get hotter as they get older, I mean seriously they're figures "getting matriarchal" means that they're getting more boobs and hips, just look at how Matriach Athethya turned out, hotter as she got older
4 - The race in general seems like they don't really have many qualms about mating with anyone
5 - All their clothes are very...flattering (this goes for human females as well)

There were a few more but I can't really remember them right now

Bioware has not been homophobic, look at dragon age and all the butt lovin you can get from Zevran.  They have not included a gay male romance in the mass effectsa, true, but occasional acceptance of homosexuals is definetly not a sign of homophobia.

Em...thats my point.    Asari do not sexually reproduce, hence, they are Asexual.   Shepherd on the other hand, does sexuall reproduce, and Liara is sexually a girl, (boobs...uterus...etc).     The encounter with Liara prior to Illos was much more then just mind intercourse, it was also physical, recreational sex.

Hence:  Femshep+liara=Lesbian/Bi, even though Liara herself is not a lesbian.

Not every Shepard in the game experience went that route with Liara, though. I completely support your thesis that the experience of traveling with Commander Shepard, experiencing the validation of her archaeological theories (and then some!), the death of her mother, her first several experiences with telempathic intimacy with another person, and everything else was undoubtedly a deeply emotional and life changing experience for Liara. I doubt Shepard's sexual orientation - whatever it is - would change that one bit.

For those who are offering the argument that Shepard is first and foremost the character of her/his authors at BioWare - to a good extent you're right. They get to be the storytellers who establish the parameters of what Shepard's Story is like and the choices we get to make as we play through it. At the same time, Shepard is in no way their character exclusively! They write the characters, put a lot of work (and probably a fair bit of loving care) into fleshing out the different possibilities of how they act in the interest of telling a good story and in the hopes that their story will resonate with us: the Gamers. They've succeeded! We love their games. We play them over and over, we fiddle away our time on their message boards because we were so affected by the story and the world and the game that we want *more* and choose this as a place wherein we pursue that. 

Those of us in support of same-sex romance options are telling the storytellers: this is a feature that would be really awesome.

Even if femshep has no sexual feelings for liara despite their bondings, Liara recalls encounters with femshep wtih fond intimacy.   Its clear Asari produce phermones to increase their desirability to others, so even if femshep was straight, i find it hard to believe that the intimacy shared did not make some pysco-sexual impact on her.    After all, the main determinant of how hetereosexuals and homosexuals find their gender of preference at an EARLY pre-pubscent age is through phermones.   Phermones can have a powerful effect in this regard.   

Of course, i would agree that I personlly don't think a bisexual romance for maleshep would kill this plot element.   I would agree that its a perfectly valid request.   But I also think its a perfectly defensible position not to include them, if Bioware so chooses.

I would say it's either EA putting pessure on BW or there may have been some pressure from BW higher ups to keep M/M out of the game

So i wouldn't put the blame on the whole of bioware
