Maybe in time they'll be a large enough gay gamer presence in the industry to make such things economically sound but for now it really isn't.

Well, Bioware did have Juhani in KotOR, but she was an exception to the otherwise sound rule. We really can't blame them for that, at least.

I hated Juhani. Freaky looking...cat thing. *shudders*

Plus I played DS

She didn't live too often in my games.

That being: Why can you only romance bisexual women? And why are there women the male shepard can romance and not the female, but not vice versa?

TBTH it's simply economical to make the gay option bi. It's more bang for their buck, as it were. They need to be able to justify the zots spent on the character and the pathways for the various relationships. Having the character be dual purpose makes that much easier when talking to the bosses.

True, that's how it was in Dragon Age. Still, it would be nice if there were one male and one female character who were exclusively gay. Or hell, just make everyone equally romancable by both Shepards. Or at least a Zevran equivalent for our man Shepards, haha.

Oh god no. Zevran was a screw anything that moves type. :pinched: I want a manly bisexual man not some crazy depraved bisexual assassin with a bad accent.

^above poster: It will never end. Not until BioWare has a solid answer or ME3 comes out.

Aaaaw men... And women...

How can people be so... "Narrow-minded".

Blaming videogames companies is the latest thing that would come to my mind if something doesn't please me during gameplay. I could send them a letter, or subscribe in a forum, but generally I prefer the philosophy of "Taking what you can take, leaving what you can want" : Mass Effect is a game, it's not a question of death and life if there is Shepard can be allowed to be gay or not gay if lesbian relationship is allowed. You're attaching an incredible importance to... Futile things.

Okay, maybe it's sad that male homosexuals are not well represented in Mass Effect, but Bioware let the main character in Dragon Age choose completly his sexual orientation.

And one last thing... ONE LAST : Do you think that Shepard has also the power to influence other people sexual orientation ? What if gay relationships were allowed, but only Udina would gladly admit that he love our MaleShep ? Will you stick up with him just because he's the only gay ? And what if Quarian culture or Turian culture denigrate homosexuality as humanity has done before ? What if our gay MaleShep end alone with only Jacob or Mordin as love choice ?

As I'm reading you, it's like you want a game perfectly crafted for yourself... This kind of egoist perfectionnist is dangerous, it lead to the fact that somebody can think that he owns everything because he can decide what's good or bad.

Can't you just take Mass Effect as it is ? A video game with a fabulous universe, complex civilisations and interresting gameplay, as well as an immersive and moving story and character's psychology. It's not a political terrain used to demonstrate that Bioware doesn't care about gay people and prefer to show lesbian girls, it's a game ! Not a battlefield !

Oh noes!

How about we tell everyone who complains about
-The battle system
-The Storyline
-The characters
-The DLC helms
-The DLC
-The game in general

To all shut up! And take ME as it is-

Oh wait if they had done that we'd have the same poor combat system, the mako (though not that scanning is any better), the old graphics, the multiple options leading to the same dialogue.

Hm...
Seems its better when people complain after all. Who'd thought! :o

Oh noes! More options?  That'll cheapen the authetic ME experience! OH NOES!

And everyone here wants a game crafted that they'll enjoy. Otherwise we wouldn't be here.

Also: I hate the fact that Shep can pratically romance anyone. Samara was a breath of fresh air. (Also there usually is only one male bisexual LI your point? Yes if I found him to my liking I would romance him, if not I'd shrug be happy the option is there and not romance anyone).

Just like the heterosexual LIs. OMGNOWAI! :o

Mass Effect is advertised as a franchise where you can make Commander Shepard a character of your liking. You can decide whether Shepard's a man or a woman, whether s/he's Paragon or Renegade, whether s/he's interested in romantic relations at all, whether s/he's interested in aliens whose physiology is nearly incompatible with humans, and if she's a woman, you can also determine whether she's gay or not. That's quite a cavalcade of choices, and the absence of male homosexuality from that bunch is quite conspicuous.

"Egoistic perfectionism" indeed. And I don't even benefit in the slightest from a potential gay LI. I simply think it's a matter worth defending.

All of which are severely more important than the romances, and even more than the specific sexualities of the characters and of Shepard.

I want a communist Shepard.

When I'll get a communist Shepard, then I'll want an Iguana-Like Shepard.

And when I'll get my Iguana-Che Guevara Shepard, as he will be a character of my liking, I'll stop complaining.

/irony

Oh, people complaining doesn't mean people being heard. Bioware had maybe heard the fans, but maybe not. And what if someone complain about a part of the game that everyone's like ? For exemple, what if he complain about the 3rd view and want a FPS view ? If Bioware listen to this buddy and make ME3 a kind of FPS episode ? Will you be happy ?

"OF COURSE NOT THEY WILL LET US THE CHOICE" will you respond to me.

Some people loved the mako (for strange reason that i can't undertand, I HATED the mako), and they were sad to see the mako disappear...

So... Did they really had the choice ?

Meh... Open your mind and I'll maybe respond one day... For now, I will check if people are so bounded in their ideas on other posts...

I know but he/she was saying that ME shouldn't be changed at all.

Also I notice you took out the DLC helms. XD and the DLC in general.
And hell people complain about the straight romances too. :? And some complain about characters that can be romanced, and how they don't open up to you because they're not romanced (honestly this really bugs me. Is it really too difficult to implement a friendship system for those of the opposite sex? Really?)

But yeah you have a point. And I'm not saying that the same sex romances should be held above those. But that doesn't mean I have to STFU and be a good little girl if I happen to prefer BioWare place something in the game.

I also noticed: why is it that the same sex people tend to keep to their own threads about the issue but everyone else comes in acting as though we're screaming to place it above everything else?  I found that odd.

Also: We don't even know if communism still even exists in ME time.

Otherwise: Go ahead. Be the communist Shep you want to be. Its not like the game offers you a chance to be socialists, or captialist either.

It's only one detail, but not unimportant one. The romance subplot gives some depth to the otherwise rather superficial Shepard character. There's plenty of complainers for much less important matters, but I don't see people wasting time in their threads telling how much they suck. Why are you here if you consider the topic unimportant?

HACK *burst into flame*

If I remember, in ME1, male shepard could said to Alenko : "There is no law forbidding you to be the friend of your commander, Alenko" or a kind of dialog like that.

He would respond : "I know, but I don't need that, my old demons doesn't haunt me anymore."

AND I don't say that the game shoudn't be changed at all, it would be an heresy ! It's would be wanting Mario to stay at the freaking 2D side scrolling for 20 years !

No, I wanted to say "Take what's in the game, do not search to want what the game CAN'T bring you".

I hope it's clear now.

AND NO I don't consider gay relationship as something that the game can't bring me, maybe Bioware is currently working on the project, maybe not, I don't care, I prefer know them working on how ME3 will end that how my MaleShep can stick up with a gay squadmate.

I hope i'm clear now...

I think you're missing the point, Iguanidae.

The reason why most people are upset is because Bioware has already committed to creating a homosexual (F/F/) relationship in Mass Effect. They simply didn't give us a M/M counterpart-they already GAVE us the "gay Shepard', sort to speak, but they didn't present that option to us fairly.

It'd be as if Bioware gave you the option to have hair for your Shepard, but you can only choose between Red and Brown hair. All other color options are excluded.

I'm still PO'd that I can't have bloody long hair as M!Shep. That's a minor issue. No one complains about me having that opinion. >_>

Or even better, Shepard can be a male, but he can only be a Black Male. All other races are excluded.

Can you hear the cries of "RACIST!!!"

Or the "White" Shepard mods. Oh gods. And I doubt you would have people going: "OMG! That's sick!!! Shep is only canocially Black! He ain't WHITE!!!"

"But but...you can choose everything ELSE about him!?!"

Or the "But but BioWare let you change your race in their OTHER GAMES!!!!"

I don't see what's you're trying to tell me...

(First, there are no "races" in humanity, only for animals, we are more civilizated didn't we ?)

Then, being only able to choose only a Black Male would utterly drive to an Internet Meme with Kanye West.

It was done with Jacob :P

And yeah, I don't mind a black male Shepard, I can't decide to put Vin Diesel in every movie I want to see, right ? Do you see Vin Diesel playing Aragorn ? Or ARWEN ? Sometimes, it's better to NOT have the choice... Especially with Vin Diesel :P

Oh yeah the hair does look rather plasticy. That's one thing DA defintely has over ME. Decent bloody hairstyles. (And the Hair Packs just make it *gold!* ^_^ )

DA's character creator crushes ME under its heel. :wizard:

Aaah...

I see...

What you like in Mass Effect is playing with dolls.
Yeah, I like to customize my Shep to look like what I want, but I always prefer to save the galaxy before worrying about my haircut :P

Council : "HELP US ! WE ARE BEING DEVORED BY GIGANTIC SPACE OCTOPUS"
Shepard : "I must wait until my hair grow before I'll try to save you, sorry. I want to do the shampoo ad thing with my hair while saving you !"
